Infertility In Rams, J. Craig
Infertility In Rams, J. Craig
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3
Realising that good rams play an important role in flock improvement, the wise flockowner selects his rams after careful consideration of their breeding, type, conformation, fleece characters or potential meat-producing qualities. These points are undoubtedly important, but the essential feature of any ram is its ability to get lambs and, for this reason, the intending purchaser should also make certain that the animal is free from genital defects.

Studies On The Helminth Fauna Of Alaska. Xxxi. Observations On The Propagation Of The Larval Echinococcus Multilocularis Leuckart, 1863, In Vitro, Robert L. Rausch, Virginia Jentoft
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
Larval reproduction in Echinococcus multilocularis Leuckart, 1863, takes place through the proliferation of exogenous secondary vesicles (Rausch, 1954). In some species of host this process appears to be continual, extending over a long period of time with little tendency for self-limitation. Consequently, the growth characteristics of this larval cestode are such that it would seem well suited to culture in vitro.

Bluetongue - Its Relationship To The Importation Of Cattle From The U.S.A., C. R. Toop
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3
It was announced by the Commonwealth Health Department a few weeks ago that an embargo had been imposed upon the importation of cattle from the U.S.A. as a precaution against the introduction of bluetongue. This is an infectious disease of sheep which has been mainly confined to the African continent, and it has been responsible for heavy losses in the Union of South Africa, over a period of many years.

Case Of Collecting Tick Amblyomma Lepidum Dönitz, 1909, In Azerbaijan, M. V. Pospelova-Shtrom, N. S. Abusalimov

First paragraph:
On 18 May 1954, (a specimen of) Burhinus oedicnemus (L.) was killed in the Lenkoransky region of Azerbaijan S.S.R.; on its head a male Amblyomma lepidum Dönitz, 1909, was found. Morphological characters of this tick, size and shape of body, characteristic light and dark ornamentation of dorsal shield, punctation, shape, and two colors of festoons, size and shape of cervical and lateral grooves, hypostome, peritreme, projection on coxae, and spherical orbited eyes correspond to those in the description of A. lepidum, given in Robinson monograph. Only on four anterior festoons a small light spot is found (in …

Studies On The Helminth Fauna Of Alaska. Xxv. The Ecology And Public Health Significance Of Echinococcus Sibiricensis Rausch & Schiller, 1954, On St. Lawrence Island, Robert L. Rausch, Everett L. Schiller
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
The occurrence of a species of Echinococcus (Rudolphi, 1801) on St Lawrence Island was noted by the writers in early 1950. Recognition of its unusual host relationships led to an investigation of the ecology of this cestode, E. sibiricensis Rausch & Schiller, 1954. It is the purpose of this paper to report the results of this work, with emphasis on alveolar hydatid disease in man, of which this cestode is the etiologic agent.

Observations On Shipleya Inermis Fuhrmann, 1908 (Cestoda: Acoleidae), Marietta Voge, Robert L. Rausch
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
Shipleya inermis, described by Fuhrmann (1908) and redescribed by Baer (1940), is known from only few specimens. The first and only North American record of this species was published by Webster (1951), who reported the finding of two specimens in dowitchers. Examination of a large number of cestodes from dowitchers collected by Rausch, and of cestodes from the Helminthological Collection of the United States National Museum yielded specimens which are without doubt Shipleya inermis. However, some of our observations which are reported here do not agree with Baer's description. In particular, we are unable to agree with Baer …

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
In 1948 much interest in trichinosis in arctic regions was aroused, particularly by the findings of Thorborg et al. (1948), who investigated serious outbreaks occurring among the Eskimo of West Greenland during 1947. Consequently, with the founding of the Arctic Health Research Center in the autumn of 1948, a study of trichinosis in Alaska was the first project to be initiated by the Zoonotic Disease Section (formerly Animal-borne Disease Section) of this Center.
Field work was begun in January, 1949, and a preliminary note on trichinosis in Alaskan mammals was published by Brandly and Rausch (1950). The subject of trichinosis …
