Observations On The Biology, Anatomy, And Morphology Of Otobius Lagophilus Cooley And Kohls, C. Selby Herring, D Elden Beck

Brigham Young University Science Bulletin, Biological Series

The principal objective of this study is to bring up to date information on geographic distribution, seasonal occurrence, and host-parasite relationship of O. lagophilus in western North America. Notes on life history and disease transmission potential are included.

Data and information were obtained from three sources: (1) natural history collections and field records at Brigham Young University over the past twenty years; (2) the Rocky Mountain Laboratory in Hamilton, Montana; and (3) published literature.

All available collection records are presented in a table from which information on geographic distribution, seasonal occurrence, and host-parasite relationship was extracted. O. lagophilus is known …

It is almost twenty-five years since Professor Winfield's article "The Unborn Child" was published. The development of this area of the law during the past quarter century is probably summed up in the distinction between that title and the one to this article.

Electron Microscopic Observations Of Human Leucocytes: Ii. Appearance In Naturally Occurring Fevers, Fairfield Goodale Jr., Elizabeth A. Hillman, Ralston Fillmore Jan 1965

Electron Microscopic Observations Of Human Leucocytes: Ii. Appearance In Naturally Occurring Fevers, Fairfield Goodale Jr., Elizabeth A. Hillman, Ralston Fillmore

MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly

When human leucocytes are artificially stimulated in vivo or in vitro by a bacterial pyrogen, they release, without destroying themselves, a pyrogenic substance that differs chemically and biologically from the original bacterial pyrogen (Snell et al., 1956; Cranston et al., 1956). Although leucocytic pyrogen has not been seen, or at least recognized, by light or phase microscope, a finely granular extracellular material is consistently visible by electron microscope in artificially stimulated leucocyte preparations that we know to be pyrogenic (Goodale, Fillmore, and Hillman, 1962). We are reasonably certain that the granular material is a genuine cellular product in response to …

Accidental Poisoning In Young Children: Its Causes And Its Prevention, Charles H. Pierce, Harold N. Wright Jan 1965

Accidental Poisoning In Young Children: Its Causes And Its Prevention, Charles H. Pierce, Harold N. Wright

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

Accidents, burns, drownings, and poisonings are the four most frequent causes of death among children. They far exceed the frequency of death from any of childhood's infectious diseases. With reasonable care, death from poisoning is probably the most amenable to prevention. Accidental poisoning, mainly in preschool children, is discussed from the standpoints of the major toxic hazards found around the usual home, their nature, incidence, location, and prevention.

Arrest, Prosecution And Police Power In The Federal Republic Of Germany, Cyril D. Robinson Jan 1965

Arrest, Prosecution And Police Power In The Federal Republic Of Germany, Cyril D. Robinson

Duquesne Law Review

During the past few years numerous articles have examined arrest and prosecution procedures in the United States. Two aspects, in particular, have been criticized-the injustice of the bail system to the lesser offender and the attempted resolution of important social problems by penal legislation. Somewhat similar criticism concerning the frequency of arrest and the length of detention has been leveled at German criminal procedure. In order to correct these deficiencies, substantial amendments were made to the German Code of Criminal Procedure in December, 1964, effective April 1, 1965.

Remarkable Success Of Bovine T.B. Eradication Campaign, J Shilkin

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Less than 20 years ago Perth dairy herds had the highest T.B. incidence of any Australian capital city and half of the Kalgoorlie cattle had the disease.

Why this was so and how the eradication campaign has reduced the incidence of less than 0.3 per cent, in 128,000 cattle is discussed in this article.

Rabbit Increase : A Warning, A R. Tomlinson

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

THE increase in rabbits which has become apparent in many parts of our agricultural areas is a warning to those who considered the problem solved by myxomatosis that these pests are still present and are quite capable of building up to a major menace again, unless they are continually and effectively controlled.

Mastitis : Prevention And Control. 2. Principles Of Mastitis Control, F C. Wilkinson

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

MASTITIS is a major cause of financial loss in over half our dairy herds.

Losses result from treatment costs, milk discarded, permanent loss of milk production, culling, lowering of solids-not-fat content and loss of butter-fat production.

Mastitis CAN be controlled. This article outlines the basic principles of mastitis control in the milking shed.
