This study analyzes the formulation and implementation process of Depok Mayor Regulation No. 61 of 2023 on Tuberculosis (TB) Control using Friedman’s legal system theory (1975) and the eight General Principles of Good Governance (Asas Umum Pemerintahan yang Baik – AUPB). The regulation provides a comprehensive framework, encompassing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative aspects to support TB control. The legal structure includes the establishment of a cross-sectoral Tuberculosis Control Acceleration Team, involving government agencies and community organizations. Findings reveal that while the regulation has fulfilled several AUPB principles, such as legal certainty, utility, and public interest, there are areas …

Microbial resistance to antibiotics poses a major health threat worldwide, prompting the scientific community to dedicate considerable efforts toward understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying this resistance. The Gram-negative cell envelope serves as a formidable barrier to environmental stressors and numerous antimicrobials. In E. coli and other enterobacteria, the Rcs system (Regulator of capsule synthesis) is a crucial two-component signalling pathway that plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the bacterial envelope. One unique aspect of the Rcs system is the involvement of several auxiliary proteins in its signalling cascade. Among them, RcsD, an inner membrane 100 kDa protein, …

Mycobacterium immunogenum is a fast-growing non-tuberculous mycobacterium often found in soil, water, and aerosols. It primarily affects immunocompromised individuals. One common area of infection is the pulmonary system, but lymph nodes, bones, and joints are also commonly involved. We report a case of a young female with a two-year history of lymphadenopathy who developed thrombocytopenia with petechiae, bruising, and mucosal bleeding. Initially, she had a positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scan showing elevated standardized uptake value concerning for malignancy, but a biopsy shortly after revealed more of a reactive follicular hyperplastic etiology. Her platelet count was severely low (3 K/uL) …

Context: Cardiotocography (CTG) records and monitors the fetal heart rate (FHR) electronically. This is done to assess the fetal health and look for symptoms of intrapartum hypoxia. Timely identification and early detection of fetuses at risk is one way of reducing pregnancy-related adverse outcomes.
Aims: The study aimed to screen and detect high-risk pregnancies in rural populations with probable fetal distress to ensure timely intervention and referral to tertiary health care centers through the combination of CTG and WhatsApp.
METHODOLOGY: This three-year prospective study was carried out at the Community Health Centre in Bhanpur Kalan, India. Women who had …

The human skeletal remains retrieved from the Persian-period (fifth–fourth centuries BCE) burial caves in the French Hospital Compound represent at least 37 individuals. The anthropological examination yielded important data concerning the demographic profile of the interred, comprising infants, children and adults of a wide age range and of both sexes, which is typical of a civilian population. Some of the tombs were used for a single burial, while others housed 2–8 individuals. All the individuals were placed on their backs, in an east–west orientation, as customary in other Persian-period cemeteries along the Israeli coastline and northern valleys. These burial practices …

The Role Of Biofilm Matrix On The Growth, Survival, And Diagnosis In Enterobacteriaceae, Kavi Bharathi R
The Role Of Biofilm Matrix On The Growth, Survival, And Diagnosis In Enterobacteriaceae, Kavi Bharathi R
Theses and Dissertations
Bacteria in nature live together encased in a matrix creating community ecosystems called biofilms, this structured space protects them from hostile environments. This study aimed to understand the role of the biofilm matrix in the growth and survival of Enterobacteriaceae. Our hypothesis proposes that subgroups of individuals within a biofilm can specialize in the production of different matrix components.
Matrix expression is metabolically costly, despite its unicellular simplicity, microbes can coordinate complex behaviour like sharing of matrix between producers and non-producers as an adept evolutionary strategy. Their resilience to stress during biofilm formation was studied to assess their abilities to …

One of the important issues in the world today is climate change. Human activities and natural factors mainly cause these changes. The main factor that triggers this phenomenon is the need for more public knowledge in dealing with and anticipating the impacts of climate change. Therefore, this research analyzed the comparative knowledge and perceptions of coastal communities regarding climate change in East Java. Purposive sampling and snowball methods were used to select 110 respondents to complete the survey form. 50 respondents were taken from residents on the Sendang Biru coast, South Malang Regency, and 60 were taken from residents on …

Recent advances in oncology research have highlighted the promising synergy between low-dose radiation therapy (LDRT) and immunotherapies, with growing evidence highlighting the unique benefits of the combination. LDRT has emerged as a potent tool for stimulating the immune system, triggering systemic antitumor effects by remodeling the tumor microenvironment. Notably, LDRT demonstrates remarkable efficacy even in challenging metastatic sites such as the liver (uveal) and brain (cutaneous), particularly in advanced melanoma stages. The increasing interest in utilizing LDRT for secondary metastatic sites of uveal, mucosal, or cutaneous melanomas underscores its potential efficacy in combination with various immunotherapies. This comprehensive review traverses …

Background: Crimean–Congo haemorrhagic fever(CCHF) is a severe illness characterised by fever, bleeding and high case-fatality rates. The disease iscaused by CCHF virus (CCHFV), transmitted by ticksand infectious body fluids and tissues. Aim: After CCHFwas diagnosed in three persons in 2023, we aimed toinvestigate the presence of antibodies against CCHFVin healthcare workers (HCW), sheep and goats, andof CCHFV in ticks, in an area in North Macedonia andcharacterise virus strains. Methods: In 2023, we collected blood samples from HCWs involved in treating CCHF patients and sera and ticks from sheep andgoats in the village in North Macedonia where theindex case resided. BACKGROUND: Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR) can be an effective treatment for highly selected patients with severe emphysema but only half of carefully selected patients derive clinical benefit. Two commercially available platforms exist to help determine candidacy for BLVR via quantitative analysis of computed tomography (CT) scans.
OBJECTIVES: To determine if the two commercially available quantitative platforms identified the same patient population that may benefit from BLVR.
DESIGN: A multicenter, retrospective cohort study.
METHODS: Consecutive patients referred for BLVR between January 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023 at three medical centers in the United States with the same CT scan …
