A total of 480 fecal samples were collected from children (less than 3 years old) , of both sexes suffering from diarrhea who admitted to The Teaching Hospital of Maternity and Pediatrics in Al- Diwaniya governorate. Salmonella spp. were isolated and identified using bacterial culturing on selective media, in addition to, biochemical and Mini API 20E. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to detect fimA gene encoding for biosynthesis of fimA of Salmonella spp. The results revealed that the rate of Salmonella isolates in fecal samples of patients were (38/480) 7.9% using cultural and MiniAPI20 E, when the PCR technique …

Objective: To examine the dissemination of extended spectrum ßlactamase (ESBL) producing isolates of Klebseilla pneumoniae obtained from patients with significant bacteriuria. Methods: ESBL and multiantibiotic resistance were studied in a total of 25 isolates of K. pneumoniae. Results: all isolates found resistance to at least five of the antibiotics used in this study. All the isolates were found sensitive to the antibiotic imipenem. 5 (22.7%) of these isolates were ESBL producing. The ESBL producing isolates were more resistant to antibiotics than non-ESBL isolates. The ESBL activity could be experimentally transferred to recipient Escherichia coli MM294.Conclusions: present study has found the occurrence of …

There have been few studies evaluating the efficacy of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing in Front other routine test for diagnosis of TB in children. The tuberculin skin test (TST) used to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in children has many drawbacks, and a new diagnostic test for has been introduced. We assessed the diagnostic yield of PCR prospectively in a blinded study of patients referred to Al-Nassyria center for chest diseases and other private laboratories from January to June 2008 and compared the results to the routine TST, smears with Ziehl-Neelsen staining and culture on Lo¨wenstein-Jensen medium which used as …

Mucosal surfaces play crucial role in immune defenses against human infection diseases. Such mucosal defenses are in a way or other related to systemic defenses mechanisms. A review of ten years works 1999-2009 is being presented. Mucosal infections induces, mucosal and systemic immune response. The systemic response mostly higher than mucosal . The patient herd immunity induces low, moderate and high immune patients, showing normal distribution curves.

Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal
Susceptibility to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is, in part, genetically determined, and the HLA genes are candidate for a role in the genetic susceptibility to this disease, because their products play a central role in the immune responses. Multiple studies have reported associations between HLA phenotypes and either Ulcerative Colitis (UC) or Crohn's Disease (CD), the major two disorders of IBD, but much of these data are still controversial. To estimate overall associations between HLA phenotypes and this disease, and to establish the probable etiologic or protective functions conferred by these molecules, a total of 71 Iraqis, Arabs patients (55 …

In this paper, we will establish the existence of positive periodic solutions for a class of first order iterative functional differential equations by using a powerful and effective technique based on the Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem together with some useful properties of a Green's function. The obtained results that complement some previous works, are illustrated with an example.

Background More than 1 million Americans reside in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). Antimicrobial transition errors among patients transferred from hospital to SNFs pose safety risks and may lead to poor outcomes, but data on such errors are limited. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study of infectious diseases clinics from 1 June 2020 through 30 November 2023 at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, a large safety-net health system. We performed logistic regression analyses to identify factors associated with antimicrobial transition errors and poor infection outcomes. Results We screened records of 6865 clinic patients, among whom 112 were …

Background
Gut microbiome composition in HIV-infection provides insight into HIV pathogenesis and potentially offers avenues to adjunctive HIV therapies. Although two-thirds of people living with HIV (PLHIV) are in Africa, studies of the gut microbiome PLHIV have focused on non-African populations. Additionally, social, cultural, and environmental factors influence the gut microbiome and differ substantially between African and Western and urban and rural communities. Here, we quantify the relationships between immune status and fecal microbiome composition in 175 rural Ugandan PLHIV.
Methods
In 2013, 175 Ugandan PLHIV contributed a single fecal sample as part of a cohort study of 202 participants. …
