The Amending Of The Federal Constitution, Lester Bernhardt Orfield Jan 1942

The Amending Of The Federal Constitution, Lester Bernhardt Orfield

Michigan Legal Studies Series

MOST treatises on constitutional law dispose of the federal amending clause in summary fashion. The commentators have thought fit to stress chiefly the division of authority between the federal government and the states. They have attached a high degree of significance to the dogma of separation of powers. A great deal of attention has been devoted to the doctrines of judicial review, the supremacy of the Federal Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. The taxation and the commerce clauses have come in for their full share of consideration. In recent years extensive studies have been made of the due process …

Revocation Of Wills By Subsequent Change In The Condition Or Circumstances Of The Testator, Elizabeth Durfee Jan 1942

Revocation Of Wills By Subsequent Change In The Condition Or Circumstances Of The Testator, Elizabeth Durfee

Michigan Law Review

Among the oldest rules in the law of wills are those by which a will is held to be revoked by implication by certain changes in the circumstances of the testator. The purpose of this paper is to investigate these rules. Special reference will be made to statutes, both those which deal generally with the subject and those which provide specifically for the effect of particular events, such as marriage; no attempt will be made, however to analyze the latter type of statute exhaustively. By way of introduction, a brief historical survey of the doctrine should be made.

Historical Study Of Public Elementary Schools In San Antonio, Texas With Special Emphasis On Elementary Schools For Negroes From 1910 To 1940, Ira E. Armstrong

All Theses

Judged by outstanding characteristics of policy and economy the history of the development of the San Antonio Public School System which this study will consider falls into three general periods. The first extends from the appointment of Superintendents Charles J. Lufkin (1908-1914) and Charles S. Meeks (1915-1920). The second period extends from 1920-1930 with the appointment of Superintendents Jerimah Rhodes (1920-1925), Marshall Johnson (1925-1929), and Hartley (1929-1931). The third covers the years since the appointment of Superintendents Chester J. Cochran in 1931-1938 and Iziah E. Stutsman to the present time. To be sure, no sharp division separates these periods; the …

A Historical Study Of The Malpighian Tubules Of Gryllus Assimilis, Charlie A. Sims Aug 1940

A Historical Study Of The Malpighian Tubules Of Gryllus Assimilis, Charlie A. Sims

All Theses

Up to this time several investigations have been reported upon the structure of the excretory system in various orthoptera, particularly in Acrididae (Schindler 1878; Tietz '23, Faussez, 1887), in Gryllidae (Sayce, 1899; Bordas, '02, '13 and in Blattidae (Miall and Benny, 1886). They differed in nearly every instance as to the anatomy and histology of the malpighian tubules.7 Stuart made an anatomical and a histological study of the malpighian tubules in Melanoplus differentialis. He described the malpighian tubules as being long flexuous, thread like structures about 172 to 312 in number, lying with their ends free in the body …

A Historical Study Of The Development Of The Embryo In The Germinating Tubers Of Nephrolepis Cordifolia, Baker, Verne Schwalbach

Bachelors’ Theses

The tubers of Nephrolepis cordifolia.- Baker were first reported and studied by Professor Heinricher (1881). His work with the tubers was concerned with what he termed regeneration. However, this term, regeneration, was found to have the same connotation as the term germination and the two were used interchangeably throughout his work.

Law School Catalogues

A Law School was first established in Richmond College in 1870. In 1890 the family of the late Mr. T. C. Williams, who had been a devoted and useful trustee, donated $25,000 as the nucleus of an endowment for the Law School. In recognition of this gift, the name of the School was changed to the T. C. WILLIAMS SCHOOL OF LAW. At various times the School has received further generous gifts from members of the family of Mr. Williams. The largest of these gifts came through a bequest from Mr. T. C. Williams, Jr., who like his father, was …

The Herods In The Opinion Of Comtemparay Writers, Clarence Bopp May 1940

The Herods In The Opinion Of Comtemparay Writers, Clarence Bopp

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

Because the Herods were in power in Palestine at the time of Christ and His apostles, there are many references to them in the New Testament historical books. Most of these references record events which emphasize the character of a particular Herod. For this reason a study of the character of the various Herods is of as much importance to an understanding of the New Testament as is the study of events during their reigns. In this paper we have accordingly attempted not only to study the chief events which occurred under each Herod, but also to analyze the character …
