A Study Of The Cleansing Of The Sanctuary In Relation To Current Denominational History, Donald Karr Short

Master's Theses

It is the purpose of this study to (1) review very briefly the experience of the believers who expected Christ to return in the year 1844; (2) to examine the teaching which grew out of this experience that has come to be known as "the cleansing of the sanctuary," and (3) primarily to discover, if possible, any additional meaning or application this teaching may hold at this time for the Seventh-day Adventist denomination and consequently for the entire world.

A Historical Study Of The Development Of The Bracero Program,With Special Emphasis On The Coachella And Imperial Valleys, Margaret Breed Mackaye

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Why at the present time do we need added sources of labor beyond that available within the country? One faction would cry, "We don't!" Another would say, "We decry the importation of labor, but there simply aren't United States citizens in sufficient numbers to get these jobs done." A third group would probably answer, "Why worry about it? These laborers will come across the border, legally or illegally; we may as well avail ourselves of their services." Perhaps we should let a fourth group speak: "We must see that you do not misuse these people."

A History Of The Missionary Activities Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints In The Near East, 1884-1929, Rao H. Lindsay

Theses and Dissertations

In the wake of the Protestant penetration into the Near East, Jacob Spori was sent to Constantinople in 1884 to open a mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Turkey. Spori and later his companion, Joseph M. Tanner, preached first to the Europeans of Constantinople, then projected their efforts down into the major cities of Palestine. Among the German colonists, the missionaries found several valuable converts, most of whom emigrated to Utah.

Ferdinand F. Hintze gained the title "Father of the Armenian Mission" through his extensive preaching tours throughout the interior of Asia Minor. He found …

The Fruits Of Iowa Progressivism, 1900-1915, William Lavalle Bowers Jan 1958

The Fruits Of Iowa Progressivism, 1900-1915, William Lavalle Bowers

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

Progressivism in the United States was more than any mere reform movement or revolution directed against an existent system; it was more nearly a national state of mind-- ''a broader impulse "1--which was both critical and reformist. Technically, there was no such thing as a Progressive movement, for there was no organized campaign uniting all the manifold efforts at political, social and economic reform. 2 However, the broader concept given above had many significant and fruitful manifestations during the early part of the twentieth century, and these may justifiably be called "Progressivism" or "the Progressive movement." Progressivism was complex and …

A Historical Study Of The Friends Doctrine Of Scripture, Dorothy E. Barratt Apr 1957

A Historical Study Of The Friends Doctrine Of Scripture, Dorothy E. Barratt

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

There a.re various theological positions taken by modern day Friends. Some Friends are evangelical, others are theologically liberal. In analyzing this situation one of the major reasons proposed to explain the tendency toward liberalism is related to the Friends' basic view of objective authority in general and a view of Scripture in particular. The question arises as to whether the view of Scripture held traditionally by Quakers accounts necessarily for the tendency toward religious liberalism and whether the Friends' view is actually at variance with evangelical thought today or through the course of history. The investigation is concerned with determining …

A Historical Study Of Four Famous Western Gunfighters, William F. Cheek Apr 1957

A Historical Study Of Four Famous Western Gunfighters, William F. Cheek

Master's Theses

In any argument that might arise concerning the question of who were the greatest gunfighters of all time, the qualifications of four men to this hallowed position will never be questioned. Indeed, the names of Billy the Kid (Henry McCarty), Wyatt Earp, John Henry "Doc" Holliday, and William Barclay "Bat" Masterson, have become symbols for the turbulent and lawless days of the 1870's and 1880's in the Southwest. In addition each man has been raised to a position alongside Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill in the evolution of the great American legend.

What were those men really like? Is their …

Religion In The Public Schools, Carl S. Meyer Feb 1957

Religion In The Public Schools, Carl S. Meyer

Concordia Theological Monthly

To the traditional three R's in education many would place as the first a fourth R - Religion. Some maintain that Religion should be taught only in the schools of the church; some say that Religion or spiritual values should be taught in the schools of the state. Others have urged that the fourth R in modern education should be Right Relations or Human Relations. The debate touches on the question of basic objectives in education and involves the question of the relationship between church and state. It embraces the questions: Do the functions of the state include the teaching …

Nonprofit Corporation Statutes: A Critique And Proposal, Ralph E. Boyer Jan 1957

Nonprofit Corporation Statutes: A Critique And Proposal, Ralph E. Boyer

Michigan Legal Studies Series

The nonprofit corporation has become an important factor in the social and economic life of the American people. The American predisposition to organization and affiliation has led to an enormous number of such organizations, which in itself is a significant factor. Further, many nonprofit corporations have become national and international entities yielding tremendous economic and political influence. In spite of these factors, however, these organizations have largely escaped the serious study and academic analysis so generously bestowed upon the regular business corporation. This study is directed at an analysis of the legal framework within which such organizations operate. Its aim …

With Lamps Burning, M. Grace Mcdonald Osb Jan 1957

With Lamps Burning, M. Grace Mcdonald Osb

Saint Benedict’s Monastery Books

It is the purpose of this book to trace the growth of the Convent of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota, from its establishment to the present time. In doing so, the author has attempted to show how a frontier country modified the character of an Old World Benedictine convent with its centuries of tradition, and how at the same time this religious community influenced in its turn the cultural and religious life of Minnesota and the Midwest. The author has found it necessary, therefore, to describe the environment – national, political, and religious – into which the sisters ventured. …

Historical Study Of The Public Schools Of Lodi, California, From 1852 To 1938, Ralph Morton Wetmore Jan 1957

Historical Study Of The Public Schools Of Lodi, California, From 1852 To 1938, Ralph Morton Wetmore

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The main purpose for such a study as this is two-fold. First, much of the information which is vital to such a collection of historical facts is becoming misplaced or lost. Old-time residents pass away and first-hand knowledge is forever lost. Certain records are destroyed by people not realizing the value of the documents. The longer one waits to collect historical information the more difficult the job becomes. In certain instances it becomes impossible to locate. Thus, of primary interest is the capturing of historical knowledge before it becomes too difficult to find.

Secondly, having one source to which one …
