The Norman Conquest In English Historical Thought, Ann Gutting Mercer

History Theses & Dissertations

Each chapter in British historiography has produced a diversity of opinion concerning the impact of the Norman Conquest (twelfth century contemporary, Tudor, Stuart, nineteenth century, twentieth century). The closer one comes to modern times the broader and more heated the controversies become. This paper discusses the appropriate works of the prominent historians from each major period. The question is asked: Was the Norman succession merely one event in the constitutional development of England or did it transform the English way of life?

The Teaching Of History In The Secondary Schools Of Australia, Richard Townley Blaine Feb 1975

The Teaching Of History In The Secondary Schools Of Australia, Richard Townley Blaine

Dissertations and Theses

Australian students terminating their secondary education with completion of Form Four provided the major stimulus during the last decade for new curriculum developments in an organized study of man. To provide these fifteen-year old pupils with the necessary exposure to life for social adjustment underscored the debate between many social scientists and history teachers on the ability of their respective subject's focus.

Where in the middle of the last decade Australia found herself in the middle of a communication revolution, many students, ending their educations during mid-adolescence, did not finish the normal sequence of history courses. History's dominance in the …

Accounting History, The Accounting Historian, And The Fasb, William G. Shenkir Jan 1975

Accounting History, The Accounting Historian, And The Fasb, William G. Shenkir

Accounting Historians Journal

The Financial Accounting Standards Board--a "bold new effort" in self regulation by the private sector--became the official rule- making body for financial accounting and reporting on July 1, 1973. The Wheat Report, Establishing Financial Accounting Standards, which led to the formation of the FASB was based, in part, upon an historical study of the rule-making efforts of the Accounting Principles Board. At this early juncture in the FASB's tenure, it seem appropriate for those interested in accounting history to: (1) consider the possibilities for their participation in the on-going work of the FASB; and (2) take note of the sources …

Historical Studies In Recent Years In Japan, Kojiro Nishikawa Jan 1975

Historical Studies In Recent Years In Japan, Kojiro Nishikawa

Accounting Historians Journal

Japan is one of the oldest nations in the world and yet one of the "newest." Western bookkeeping methods came in on the top of the native indigenous method which had been firmly established for centuries. Both of these systems developed quite peculiarly in the modern nation of Japan. Yet Japanese accounting historians have not directed a great deal of their research toward these matters perhaps because they consider them too provincial. Nonetheless it would appear that more Japanese accounting scholars must accept the challenge of doing research into these matters in the years to come.

The Historical Development Of Wasatch Trails In Salt Lake County, Clyde Brian Hardy Jan 1975

The Historical Development Of Wasatch Trails In Salt Lake County, Clyde Brian Hardy

Theses and Dissertations

In this study investigation was made concerning the etiology of the foot trails that thread their way through Wasatch Forest lands in Salt Lake county. The time delimitation was 1847 to 1975.

The origin of the majority of these trails dates back to the nineteenth century and is closely tied to the efforts of pioneers who labored to wrest a living from semi-arid land. Early lumbering, livestock operations, mining activities, water collection systems, and pioneer recreation all provided impetus for trail development. In a sense these trails are a kind of anthology of human endeavor.

Passing into the twentieth century …
