Disaster Reporting In Indonesian National Online Media: Agenda Setting And Sentiment Analysis, Erwin Rasyid, Erni Saharuddin, Zahro Varisna Rohmadani
JURNAL KOMUNIKASI INDONESIA
In the context of disasters, the mass media is one of the main sources of information for the community. Mass media, as a communication channel, can be utilized as a disaster management system to mitigate the impact of disaster risk. However, disaster events are often treated as commodities by the mass media to attract audience attention. This study analyzes the agenda-setting and sentiment of disaster news coverage by national online media in Indonesia. It uses the Agenda-Setting Theory of McCombs and Shaw to explore how media agenda-setting relates to disaster issues. This research employs a descriptive quantitative approach using sentiment …

Eisenhower As Supreme Allied Commander: A Reappraisal, Richard D. Hooker Jr.
Eisenhower As Supreme Allied Commander: A Reappraisal, Richard D. Hooker Jr.
The US Army War College Quarterly: Parameters
This article argues that the historical assessment of Dwight D. Eisenhower as Supreme Allied Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in World War II lacks objectivity and balance. It identifies several strategic errors and missteps attributable to Eisenhower, which resulted in severe casualties and prolonged the war in Europe. The conclusions can help US military practitioners and policymakers assess the background and qualities required for successful theater command during wartime and senior commanders’ performances.

The Fallacy Of Unambiguous Warning, Regan Copple
The Fallacy Of Unambiguous Warning, Regan Copple
The US Army War College Quarterly: Parameters
The Indications and Warnings subfield of intelligence has traditionally divided warnings into a dichotomy of "ambiguous" and "unambiguous" that gives policymakers a false sense of security. This article examines how unambiguous warning has been conceptualized and why it has become an inadequate planning tool that can lead to dire consequences in the quest for certainty. Using the 1973 Yom Kippur War and the Pearl Harbor attack as case studies, the article shows unambiguous warning is an inadequate planning tool that can lead to dire consequences in the quest for certainty. The article concludes with observations about the role of intelligence …
The Ideological Background Of National Socialism In Regard To Its Central Narrative Convictions, David Joseph Thrower
The Ideological Background Of National Socialism In Regard To Its Central Narrative Convictions, David Joseph Thrower
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The origins of the National Socialist Party in Germany in the early 20th century are multifaceted and constitute four areas of influence – mythological/occult, Darwinian eugenics, prior völkisch political movements comprised of disenfranchised war veterans and youth activists, and a number of philosophical influences. The ideas assimilated from these sources constitute the construction of a narrative based on a series of questions that form what are called Central Narrative Convictions (or CNCs). The focus is to determine which of these were borrowed in regard to the Nazi platform as well as those unique to their own identity. These convictions also …

Department of Medicine Faculty Papers
BACKGROUND: Direct oral anticoagulants are the standard of care for stroke prevention in eligible patients with atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter; however, bleeding remains a significant concern, limiting their use. Milvexian is an oral Factor XIa inhibitor that may offer similar anticoagulant efficacy with less bleeding risk.
METHODS: LIBREXIA AF (NCT05757869) is a global phase III, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, event-driven trial to compare milvexian with apixaban in participants with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. Participants are randomly assigned to milvexian 100 mg or apixaban (5 mg or 2.5 mg per label indication) twice daily. The primary efficacy objective is to …
Dimensional Attention Shift During Human Semi-Supervised Category Learning, Osung Seo
Dimensional Attention Shift During Human Semi-Supervised Category Learning, Osung Seo
Dissertations - ALL
Category learning, a fundamental aspect of human cognition, enables individuals to organize and interpret the vast array of stimuli in their environment. While traditionally studied under supervised and unsupervised learning frameworks, semi-supervised learning – combining small amounts of labeled data with larger pools of unlabeled data – has emerged as a promising area of research. This study investigates the mechanisms of human semi-supervised category learning, addressing the underexplored question of how unlabeled instances influence the learning process. Motivated by inconsistent findings in prior research, I explore the types of information people extract from unlabeled instances and whether this information can …

Community‐Based Research And The Historian’S Craft, Zorian Maksymec, Christina Redmond, Nina Reid-Maroney
Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education
This paper discusses a community-based research project that paired undergraduate history students with local community partners in an exploration of the antislavery movement in Canada and the problem of its erasure from local historical memory. The article outlines the project’s background and method, examines the wide-ranging importance of the community classroom it helped to create, and reflects on the importance of undergraduate research in the setting of a liberal arts university as a bridge between classroom and community.
Examining School To Home Transference Of Behavioral Interventions Provided To Elementary Students With Autism, Andre Lamar Patterson
Examining School To Home Transference Of Behavioral Interventions Provided To Elementary Students With Autism, Andre Lamar Patterson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Parent–teacher collaboration is crucial for optimizing outcomes for students with autism spectrum disorder (SWAs). This qualitative study addressed perceptions among parents of elementary-aged SWAs regarding the lack of transfer of school-based behavioral skills to the home environment. Parental perceptions of the transfer of behavioral interventions, including applied behavior analysis (ABA), from school to home for SWAs aged 6–12 years were explored. Using a basic qualitative methodology, data were gathered using semi structured in-depth interviews of eight participants with elementary aged children with autism: Member checking, peer debriefing, and triangulation provided validation. Two major themes emerged: (a) the importance of regular …

Unlocking Over A Decade Of Insights: Large Bull Shark (Carcharhinus Leucas) Movement Behaviors In The Western North Atlantic Ocean, Jasmine D. Nyce
Fisheries
Marine predators, particularly elasmobranch species like bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas), play crucial roles in maintaining marine ecosystems but face threats due to anthropogenic impacts and global climate change. Management and conservation of these species incorporate an understanding of their movement behaviors and spatial distribution, which is currently understudied for large bull sharks in the Western North Atlantic (WNA). Therefore, this thesis focuses on understanding bull shark movement patterns in the WNA, including pregnant females. We first examine the movement behaviors of bull sharks from 2009 to 2023 using extensive passive acoustic telemetry data from the Bimini Biological Field Station (BBFS) …
The Northern View Of The Southern Shore: Experience, Reconciliation, And Commemoration In Postbellum Charleston, South Carolina, Michael Edward Scott Emett
The Northern View Of The Southern Shore: Experience, Reconciliation, And Commemoration In Postbellum Charleston, South Carolina, Michael Edward Scott Emett
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation explores the experiences and commemorative practices of nearly 200 northern passengers in Charleston, South Carolina, as they attended the flag reraising ceremony at Fort Sumter on April 14, 1865, and then organized the Sumter Club to celebrate that event annually. While some has been written about postwar Charleston during the first half of 1865, and a little more has been published covering this flag ceremony, the Northern view and their experiences with each have not been investigated, nor has anyone written an account of this club. This dissertation utilizes the theory and methodology of the history of experience, …
Investigation Of The Environmental Factors Regulating The Biomass And Toxin Production Of The Benthic Cyanobacterium Microseira Wollei In Lake Wateree, South Carolina, Kara Clyburn
Theses and Dissertations
Impacts from anthropogenic activities and climate change are significantly altering nitrogen (N) cycling processes and biological productivity along the freshwater to marine continuum, and the acceleration rate of excessive N and phosphorus (P) concentrations entering aquatic environments is unprecedented. As a result, nutrient pollution is contributing to the increasing magnitude and duration of cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cHABs), oxygen (O2) depletion, loss of biodiversity, and impacts to human and ecosystem health. Lake Wateree, South Carolina (SC) is a freshwater drinking and contact recreational water resource with elevated symptoms of eutrophication, including the increasing prevalence of the N2 fixing benthic cyanobacterium …
Association Between Autoimmune Diseases And Lymphoma Risk Using The Uk Biobank, Hannah Grace Dice
Association Between Autoimmune Diseases And Lymphoma Risk Using The Uk Biobank, Hannah Grace Dice
Theses and Dissertations
Background. Lymphoma is a blood cancer that develops when white blood cells multiply in an abnormal way and collect in the lymph nodes. Autoimmune diseases result when the immune system is overactive, causing it to attack and damage the body’s own tissues. Limited studies have been conducted to investigate the association between autoimmune diseases and lymphoma risk.
Literature review. Based on prior research, six autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis (RA), lupus, Sjögren’s syndrome, sarcoidosis, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis (UC)) were examined to better understand their association with lymphoma risk. Prior research has concluded that certain aspects of these autoimmune diseases …
The General-Law Right To Bear Arms, William Baude, Robert Leider
The General-Law Right To Bear Arms, William Baude, Robert Leider
Notre Dame Law Review
In this Article, we argue that Bruen's intended methodological shift has been widely misunderstood by the bench and bar. This has led to confusion and misapplication in the lower courts, as well as much scholarly criticism of the test that is, we think, misdirected. As we will explain, Bruen calls for a form of legal originalism, applying a classical view of fundamental rights as a form of unwritten customary law. This is consistent with the text and history of the Constitution and leads to results that are less mechanical and more sensible than many lower courts have thought. Understanding …
Movement Ecology And Nest-Site Selection Of Rock Iguanas Across A Gradient Of Anthropogenic Disturbance, James Walter Wehsener
Movement Ecology And Nest-Site Selection Of Rock Iguanas Across A Gradient Of Anthropogenic Disturbance, James Walter Wehsener
Theses and Dissertations
Analysis of animal movement has been integrated into a framework of four components: internal state, motion capacity, navigation capacity, and external factors (Nathan et al., 2008). We used this framework to enhance understanding of movement behavior in the 15 West Indian rock iguana (Cyclura) taxa and to inform conservation management. Our review found that adult female Cyclura large-scale movement is primarily driven by nesting and migrations. Nest site selection also influences hatchling dispersal, but few studies identify preferred habitats for nesting females. Anthropogenic impacts on nesting ecology are largely unexplored, especially in Cyclura carinata. We studied C. carinata nesting ecology …

Additionally, it provides applied research data on how music educators should perceive their effectiveness regarding the quality of school funding. By examining historical evidence through multiple studies, the research data will be able to help conclude if a …
A Comparison Study Of Vocational Factors Influencing Academic Satisfaction For Marginalized And Majority Students, Sara Driver
A Comparison Study Of Vocational Factors Influencing Academic Satisfaction For Marginalized And Majority Students, Sara Driver
Dissertations
Marginalized college students experience increased rates of discrimination resulting in poorer academic outcomes whereas majority students are often afforded more privilege and access to resources allowing them to be more successful (Bardhardt et al., 2017; Milkman et al., 2015; Hanson, 2021). Psychology of Working Theory (PWT; Duffy et al., 2016) posits that experiences of discrimination and marginalization can negatively impact the chances for one to be successful in the world of work. PWT argues that decent work is a desired outcome by marginalized individuals and research confirms that securing future decent work is important to marginalized college students (Ma et …
Addressing The Increased Prevalence Of Gestational Diabetes Among Hispanic/Latino Pregnant Persons In The Central Valley Of California, Kathleen Janise Farrell Wardell
Addressing The Increased Prevalence Of Gestational Diabetes Among Hispanic/Latino Pregnant Persons In The Central Valley Of California, Kathleen Janise Farrell Wardell
Master's Projects and Capstones
Gestational Diabetes (GDM) is a preventable noncommunicable disease that has been on the rise over the last 60 years. Pregnant persons with gestational diabetes are 10 times higher of acquiring Type 2 Diabetes after pregnancy (Ionannou et al., 2024). There is an urgent need to address this public health threat because of its increase in mortality. To address this complex chronic disease, this literature review explored multi-level interventions using the socioecological model to mitigate GDM in the Central Valley’s, Tulare County. Tulare County is disproportionately affected by chronic diseases like diabetes especially among the Hispanic and Latinx communities. Therefore, it …

Humanity has a tendency to divide time. The past is distinct from the present which is entirely separate from the future. In supposedly 20-20 vision history is neatly divided into different sections, distinct eras with sharp lines between them. What is present and in the future is always modern. What is past is something else with another name.
Yet time is not divided so neatly. We know this living through it: years and decades blend into one another in a non-uniform progression. To divide human history into separate eras is a necessary simplification, as it helps to ascribe order onto …

San Diego Law Review
In response to a growing set of empirical studies demonstrating their widespread discriminatory effects, pretextual stops have been subjected to decades of criticism from scholars, the public, and jurists. However, pretextual stops have been defended by some as a necessary public safety measure, particularly in the fight against violent gun crimes. Following a series of highly publicized police shootings of unarmed Black drivers during pretextual stops, and in the absence of substantial judicial or legislative guidance, a growing number of prosecutors have developed policies deprecating the prosecution of pretextual stops absent a clear public safety benefit. Without empirical evaluations of …

Two Perspectives On Macroeconomics And Inequality, Aleph Shin
Two Perspectives On Macroeconomics And Inequality, Aleph Shin
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores the intricate relationships between macroeconomic forces and economic inequality through two distinct but interconnected lenses. Chapter 1 examines how heightened import competition, a key aspect of globalization, reshapes the occupational structure in the U.S., highlighting the adverse effects of import competition on employment across different occupations, especially those with low and middle wages. Employing industry-level trade and technology measures to assess the impacts on eleven finely defined occupational groups, this chapter reveals that import competition serves as a significant yet often overlooked driver of job polarization and the decline of middle-skill occupations, contrasting with the polarization literature …
