Jewish Studies: Are They Ethnic?, Howard Adelman
Explorations in Ethnic Studies
The history of Jewish studies has not yet been written. Scholars engaged in this field, however, are beginning to subject it to searching analysis. Pertinent articles have appeared that offer two extreme positions on the development of Jewish studies: one sees the increase in Jewish studies as the result of heightened Jewish self-awareness during the late 1960s because of the Six Day War, growing interest in the Holocaust, and the influence of rising black and ethnic consciousnesses that resulted in the establishment of academic programs. The other, usually a reaction to the first view, argues that the study of Hebraica …

Intertextual And Interlinguistic Approaches To Agnon's Writing, Ken Frieden
Intertextual And Interlinguistic Approaches To Agnon's Writing, Ken Frieden
Religion - All Scholarship
While previous critics have raised the question of outside
influences upon Agnon, his fiction has seldom been read in
connection with contemporary views of intertextuality. Agnon
specialists might learn from the theories of Harold Bloom, for
example, as they are set forth in The Anxiety of Influence
and A Map of Misreading. This article will provide
specific examples of intertextual and interlinguistic reading,
applied to Agnon's "Panim Aherot" and ul'Veit Abba", and suggest
the broader significance of these approaches.

Problem. In scholarly debates on the origin of DA, the corpus of OA texts has not received full attention. Thus, there is a lack of comparative studies between DA and OA. This type of study serves a twofold purpose: It contributes to providing an answer to the questions of origin of DA, and it provides fresh insights into both OA and DA.
Method. This study of OA texts has been organized into seven sections which pertain to the literary and linguistic character of every one of the inscriptions: Description, Nature, Structure, Vocabulary, Orthography and Phonology, Morphology, and Syntax. The discussion …
