A Pilot Intervention To Promote Physical Activity Participation Among Youth With Cerebral Palsy: Action Research, Karin Kleinhans Dr
International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness
Introduction Physical activity (PA) is important for health and well-being, yet youth with cerebral palsy (CP) in South Africa encounter structural, sociocultural, and psychological barriers that hinder participation. To ensure they can experience the benefits of PA, effective, feasible, and acceptable interventions are needed. This study piloted a psycho-educational behaviour change protocol to assess its feasibility and acceptability in promoting active lifestyles.
Methodology An 18-week, non-randomised trial was conducted with five participants (ages 15–24), with GMFCS levels I, III, and IV, including youth who use assistive technology. Participants tracked their PA using activity monitors and self-reported diaries. Semi-structured interviews explored …

The Foundations Of International Taxation: Knocked From Post To Pillars, Yariv Brauner
The Foundations Of International Taxation: Knocked From Post To Pillars, Yariv Brauner
Akron Law Review
After a century of convergence and consolidation, the international tax regime is at a crossroads. A recent program promoted by the OECD, known as the two pillars program, departs in many ways from long standing norms of the regime. But the OECD and many states insist that the foundations of the regime have not changed, portraying the two pillars as a negotiated, pragmatic compromise that responds mainly to the challenges that the digital economy presented to the old rules. This article rejects this portrayal, arguing that the program is far from being a balanced or a truly negotiated compromise between …

The Phoenix Takes Flight: The Importance Of Trauma-Informed Positive Education, Kathleen Turner Ledgerwood
Feminist Pedagogy
Since the pandemic, trauma has touched almost everyone. Pervasive illness, death, and isolation affected us in ways we have not paused to process. Many students were young and particularly affected by the pandemic. The rise in mental health concerns has made it more imperative to address mental health within our pedagogy. This article will outline strategies for helping to manage mental health within our pedagogy in order to better help everyone using an approach that aligns with trauma-informed and positive psychology pedagogical practices. Our future is one of compassionate, caring, trauma-informed work that bolsters the well-being of our students.

Exploring Dimensions Of Crystallized Identities, Candice L. Ruh
Feminist Pedagogy
For college students, learning about the components of identity can generate deeper knowledge about how personal and social identities differ, and how identities influence the way individuals experience socio-cultural systems and structures. The Exploring Dimensions of Crystallized Identities activity uses principles of self-reflexivity and dialogue to explore theoretical frameworks for practical application. This experiential activity is a facilitated dialogue driven by student involvement and is best suited for students in mid- to upper-level undergraduate courses. It encourages students to reflect on their and others’ identities, and to consider the social impacts of diversity in their lives.

Creating And Re-Energizing Communities Of Meaning Throughout A Course, Nancy A. Heise, Anum Ahmed
Feminist Pedagogy
We propose a feminist course approach wherein instructors build what Amie Macdonald (2002) called "communities of meaning" in their classrooms (p.120). Through an intentional focus on supporting students' 1) individual identities, 2) holistic well-being, and 3) epistemic "buy-in" to classroom content, students will connect more deeply not only to themselves and their classmates, but also to the course material. We suggest four community-building touchpoints as a starting point for instructors looking to integrate this course approach. We start with an activity to lessen awkwardness around first-day name pronunciation. We emphasize the importance of creating collaborative classroom expectations with students, and …

Qualitative Exploration Of Applied Sport Psychology Practices In Deaflympic Sports, Alon Markov-Glazer, Rainer Schliermann
International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness
Introduction Athletes competing in elite Deaf sports, known as Deaflympic sports, display unique sociocultural characteristics (Clark & Mesch, 2018). Yet, sport psychology research has largely overlooked this group of athletes for decades (Markov-Glazer et al., 2023). This study therefore aimed to examine sport psychology practices in Deaflympic sport, focusing on identifying distinctive characteristics, needs, and preferences of this athlete group.
Methodology To achieve this goal, six in-depth focus group interviews were conducted with 23 active Deaflympic athletes (26.1% female) and four coaches from individual sports (e.g., tennis) and team sports (e.g., handball). Participants discussed their use of psychological skills and …

Chances And Challenges For Physical Activity In Adolescents And Young Adults With Hemophilia, Tabea Nauschuetz, Ulrich Theobald
International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness
Introduction
Hemophilia is a congenital coagulation disorder that typically affects men. Due to reduced activity of coagulation factor, people with hemophilia (pwh) have an increased tendency to bleed. Thanks to modern treatment, pwh can lead a normal everyday life; nevertheless, pwh are still dependent on a regular substitution of coagulation factor. Traditionally, pwh have been advised to avoid physical activity (pa) altogether due to the risk of bleeding events. However, it has been shown that sport can have a positive effect on physical and mental health (Von Mackensen et al., 2016). This study focuses on needs and barriers of young …

International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness
The sports development of people with disabilities (PwD) presents unique challenges that must be considered to ensure a sustainable athletic pathway. The Brazilian Parasport Development Model (PSDM) was designed to structure and guide Parasports trajectories. This study aims to present and discuss the PSDM’s framework. Methodologically, the model’s development was based on a comparative analysis of international frameworks. The PSDM structures an athlete’s pathway into two distinct models: one for individuals with congenital disabilities and another for those with acquired disabilities. Both models incorporate pathways for participation-based parasport and high-performance parasport. The congenital model consists of eight stages: Initial Stimulation, …
