Introduction Earthen floors are often damp or dusty and difficult to clean, providing an ideal environment for faecal pathogens and parasites. Observational studies have revealed associations between household flooring and health outcomes, but robust experimental evidence is scant. This study will evaluate the impact of an improved household flooring intervention on enteric infections, soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections and tungiasis through implementation of a cluster-randomised trial in two rural settings in Kwale and Bungoma Counties, Kenya. Methods and analyses 440 clusters (households) across both sites are allocated to control or intervention group, in which a low-cost, sealed, washable, cement-based floor is …

Building A Theory-Based Understanding Of Sexual Health Provider Stigma: A Phenomenological Study, Harit Agroia, Rebecca Reno, Maytal Bach, Jenette Spezeski, Erin Starzyk
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
Unraveling provider-level sexual health stigma requires building an understanding of contributing factors, such as provider knowledge, values, beliefs, medical training, and other intrapersonal or interpersonal factors that may influence its manifestation at the clinic level during patient–provider interactions. Healthcare provider stigma has not been sufficiently understood or explained using classic psychological theories, such as Cognitive Dissonance Theory (CDT) or Social Cognitive Theory (SCT). We build a theory-based understanding of sexual health-provider stigma by proposing modifications to the SCT to develop the Modified SCT (M-SCT) model, where cognitive dissonance is hypothesized to influence the personal/cognitive and behavioral factors of the M-SCT. …

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is an abundant internal RNA modification that can impact gene expression at both post-transcriptional and transcriptional levels. However, the landscapes and functions of m6A in human brains and neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), are under-explored. Here, we examined RNA m6A methylome using total RNA-seq and meRIP-seq in middle frontal cortex of post-mortem brains from individuals with or without AD, which revealed m6A alteration on both mRNAs and various noncoding RNAs. Notably, many promoter-antisense RNAs (paRNAs) displayed cell-type-specific expression and changes in AD, including one produced adjacent to MAPT that encodes the Tau protein. MAPT-paRNA is highly expressed …

Project Managers, The Heart Of Every Football Club., Khaled Hamshari
Harrisburg University Dissertations and Theses
Project managers have become central to the success of modern football clubs, managing both the sporting and business aspects of operations. This paper examines how the role of project managers has evolved over the last 20 years, expanding from football-related duties to encompass broader responsibilities, including financial management, recruitment strategies, and long-term planning. With football clubs now functioning as multi-billion-dollar organizations, the influence of project managers has grown significantly, as they are tasked with balancing on-pitch success with off-pitch business objectives. The study highlights how project managers have become indispensable, often holding more power than some stakeholders, making their role …

A Histological Analysis Of The Superior Capsule Of The Glenohumeral Joint And The Supraspinatus Tendon, Nabil Mehta, Allison K Perry, Deborah J Hall, Ian M Clapp, Derrick M Knapik, Grant E Garrigues, Nikhil N Verma
2020-Current year OA Pubs
BACKGROUND: Complete understanding of rotator cuff pathology relies on a comprehensive knowledge of the anatomic relationships between the supraspinatus tendon (ST) and the superior capsule (SC) of the glenohumeral joint. However, the native anatomy of these structures across the glenohumeral joint and at their attachment sites remains incompletely understood.
PURPOSE: To (1) determine the histological anatomy and absolute and relative thicknesses of the SC compared with the ST across the glenohumeral joint at the anterior, midpoint, and posterior portions of the ST; (2) quantify the percentage of the humeral footprint occupied by the SC versus the ST; and (3) measure …

Identifying the ureters in patients with advanced endometriosis and severe pelvic adhesive disease can be challenging. Adhesiolysis along the deformed pelvic sidewall may increase the risk of prolonged operative time and incidental ureteral injury. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and surgical outcomes of using Indocyanine Green (ICG) under near-infrared fluorescence for intraoperative ureteral localization and preservation during robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery (RALS) for advanced endometriosis, comparing procedures performed by two junior surgeons to those performed by one senior surgeon. This was a retrospective observational case series conducted by three minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons (X.G., T.K., B.T.) at a single …

School of Nursing and Midwifery
Using, and extending, Butler’s theory of recognition and censorship, this article examines the way in which nurses’ subject positions were regulated in the transformative liminality of the COVID-19 pandemic, where normal matrices of power were ‘undone’ and new ones formed. During the pandemic, societal discourses regarding nurses shifted from treating them as less-than-human and their care-work invisible and unrecognised (derealised), to an elevated position where they became appreciated and treated as heroes, then reverting to a derealised state. As part of the building of subjectivities in this liminal period, nurses constructed boundaries against ‘unmoral’ others, either members of the public, …

Iep Process As An Avenue Or Barrier To Inclusion For Autism Spectrum Students: The Importance Of Collaboration, Stephanie C. Holmes
Iep Process As An Avenue Or Barrier To Inclusion For Autism Spectrum Students: The Importance Of Collaboration, Stephanie C. Holmes
Tapestry: Journal of Research in Education
Decades of research concerning the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) have shown that building and implementing an IEP for a student with additional needs can be adversarial between the child’s parents and the school system. In 1975, when Public Law 94-142 was passed, the idea behind the law was not only to provide a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) for children with needs and disabilities but also to give parents of these children a voice in the process of creating the child’s IEP. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) was not added to the list of needs to be served …

Global Voices Of Research Fellows: Evaluating Learning Gains From International Research Presentations, Jennifer Butcher, Berenice Casas, Sandra Cleveland, Stacie Shelby
Tapestry: Journal of Research in Education
The underlying assumption of all study abroad programs is that they provide extraordinary benefits to students who participate in them with benefits that far exceed a course of study that is strictly domestically based. The concept of learning gains, briefly summarized as the improvement in knowledge, skills, work-readiness and personal development made by students during their time spent in higher education, has been hailed by some as an opportunity to measure “excellence” in teaching. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the learning gains acquired by research fellows through the process of developing and presenting projects internationally. The following …

Measuring Local Dewatering Of Freshwater Mussels In The Yamhill Watershed, Sage Henke, Kurt Ingeman, Levi Buker, Emma Mulligan
Linfield University Student Symposium: A Celebration of Scholarship and Creative Achievement
My research focused on freshwater mussels in the Yamhill Watershed. The research team I was a part of was focused on determining how extreme the changes in water depth and velocity experienced by mussels are, specifically under increasingly prevalent low-discharge conditions. We censused mussels and measured environmental variables including depth and velocity. We then compared those variables from the beginning to end of summer to see how dramatically they had changed.
One of the most striking differences here is the increase in mussels at the surface level in July versus August. Surface was defined as 5cm or less. The bottom …

Self-Compassion And Law Student Professional Identity Formation, Janice L. Craft
The Journal of Law Teaching and Learning
The American Bar Association’s Standards for Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar require law schools to provide students with “substantial opportunities” for “[t]he development of a professional identity.” The Standards do not require a particular curriculum or mode of instruction but offer two guideposts for legal educators: one, that “professional identity focuses on what it means to be a lawyer and the special obligations lawyers have to their clients and society,” and two, that professional formation “should involve an intentional exploration of the values, guiding principles, and well-being practices considered foundational to successful legal practice.” The guidance and concomitant …

Democratic Lawyering: Upending The “Hidden Curriculum” To Prepare New Lawyers For A New World, Eduardo R.C. Capulong, Andrew King-Ries, Monte Mills
The Journal of Law Teaching and Learning
Multiple heightening crises reveal the deficiencies and contradictions of legal education, in particular the values it imparts. Perpetuating myths about U.S. democracy and rule of law, the enduring formalist, liberal legalist cast of law school is increasingly at odds with students’ lived experiences. As liberal democracy and the rule of law falter, no longer is relying on the “hidden curriculum” or the historically nebulous and mythical narratives of the law and our legal system sufficient to prepare tomorrow’s lawyers for the challenges faced by our profession. Instead, with a boost from ABA Standard 303, this article draws on the tradition …
