Aligning Models Of Competency-Based Education With Skills For The Future, Teresa M. Ober, Lei Liu, David Nitkin, Ou Lydia Liu

Chinese/English Journal of Educational Measurement and Evaluation | 教育测量与评估双语期刊

Essential competencies such as collaboration and critical thinking, integral to long-term success, have been notably absent from traditional curricula, as the current instructional materials largely focus on disciplinary domains. Previous research, as highlighted by Liu, Kell, Ling et al. (2023), established a compelling link between these competencies and success across educational, occupational, civic, and health and wellbeing outcomes. The Skills for the Future, a joint initiative by ETS and Carnegie Foundation, presents a comprehensive approach to transform skills identification, demonstration, and verification. The initiative aims to create an ecosystem for skills consisting of a skills framework, assessment, extraction, and insight, …

The Rural Rescue: Tackling Arkansas’S Legal Deserts Through Proven Statutory Reform, Kathryn Totty Jun 2025

The Rural Rescue: Tackling Arkansas’S Legal Deserts Through Proven Statutory Reform, Kathryn Totty

Arkansas Law Review

In some rural counties of Arkansas, a single attorney is responsible for serving thousands of residents, depriving many Arkansans of even basic legal representation. Imagine facing eviction, fighting for custody of your child, contesting a divorce, or navigating the complexities of probate with no attorney for miles. This stark reality exemplifies the growing “legal deserts” problem facing rural Arkansas, where access to justice has become a luxury rather than a right. To combat the growing shortage of legal professionals in rural areas, states seek new solutions—some proving more successful than others. Several states have implemented rural attorney incentive programs, typically …

Be Curious, Not Judgmental: Neurodiversity In Legal Education, Katherine Silver Kelly Jun 2025

Be Curious, Not Judgmental: Neurodiversity In Legal Education, Katherine Silver Kelly

Arkansas Law Review

This Article takes the position that the curiosity associated with legal education is limited to those who are neurotypical. For students who are neurodivergent, law school is a place of judgment, not curiosity. The number of neurodiverse law students is increasing, yet they are not sufficiently supported in law school. This Article will seek to show how the current structures of legal education, although fundamentally sound, have become overly rigid. Instead of providing students with intellectual foundations of legal doctrine that prepare them for the challenges of practicing law, the existing status quo stifles those goals. By limiting our practices …

Licensure As Pathway, Not Barrier, Brian Gallini Jun 2025

Licensure As Pathway, Not Barrier, Brian Gallini

Arkansas Law Review

The legal profession knows it has an access to justice crisis. One side lacks a lawyer in approximately three-quarters of the twenty million civil cases filed across state courts every year. Against that concerning backdrop is how we license attorneys. The most common method is the written bar exam. But that exam bears little resemblance to the practice of law, produces racially disparate results, and is shockingly expensive for law graduates to prepare for and take. Its opaque scoring practices alongside its rare administration—offered just twice per year—strengthens the idea that the modern bar exam operates more as a barrier …

A Demand Systems Analysis Of Energy Sources In The United States, Rafael Bakhtavoryan Jun 2025

A Demand Systems Analysis Of Energy Sources In The United States, Rafael Bakhtavoryan

Faculty Publications

This study estimates a Generalized Exact Affine Stone Index model to quantify demand structure among such energy sources as natural gas, coal, nuclear, wind, solar, and geothermal energy, employing monthly time-series data ranging from January of 2009 through December of 2020. The demand for natural gas, coal, and nuclear energy emerges as inelastic. A significant substitutability relationship is empirically established between the energy sources. All the computed expenditure elasticities are positive, with natural gas being the most sensitive and nuclear energy being the least sensitive to energy source expenditures. Pre-committed consumption is found for geothermal energy. Finally, the welfare implications …

The Career Breaking Point: Mid-Career Women’S Perceptions Of Organizational Communication And Their Career Disruptions, Laura Nicole Miller, Karen Mccullough

Applied Business Faculty Publications

When women in leadership experience career disruptions, they and their organizations lose. Companies forfeit experienced, mission-aligned talent, while women face instability and professional setbacks. This qualitative study offers a diagnostic foundation for understanding how organizational communication contributes to these disruptions. Guided by the cultural approach to organizations and using a constructivist grounded theory methodology, the study draws on semi-structured interviews with 14 mid-career women who experienced career interruptions. Findings identify three interrelated communication-related factors: mission-driven overwork, gaslighting, and value incongruence. Rather than prescribing solutions, the study centers on women’s lived experiences to highlight the communication patterns they perceive as harmful. …

Trends In Lumbar Epidural Injection Selection: A Survey Of Practitioner Preferences And Practice Patterns, Ryan Triglia, Andrew Walrond, Jesse Wagner, Paul Kitei, Jeffrey Boyd, Jeremy Simon

Department of Medicine Faculty Papers

BACKGROUND: Lumbar radiculopathy is estimated to affect approximately 3-5 % of the population. Among the leading causes of radiculopathy are degenerative or congenital spinal stenosis and lumbar disc herniations, which can contribute to compression and narrowing in various regions of the spine including the neural foramen, subarticular recess, or central canal. When patients do not respond to typical conservative treatment such as medications and physical therapy, epidural steroid injections can be considered as a next step in management. There are three approaches available for accessing the lumbar epidural space: caudal, interlaminar, and transforaminal. There is no clear consensus regarding the …

What Jobs Offer (And Don’T Offer) Benefits To Low-Wage Workers? Evidence From A Nationally Representative Survey, Laura Brugger, Mathieu Despard, Selina Miller, Stephen Roll

Center for Social Development Research

Employer-based benefits are an important for the financial security and well-being of U.S. workers. These benefits are a key path to healthcare access, retirement security, and other beneficial outcomes. But employers may also offer services that support employees’ financial wellness, and relatively little is known about the extent to which supplemental financial-wellness benefits are offered to low-wage workers or about variation in offerings by industries. Drawing on data from the Workforce Economic Inclusion and Mobility (WEIM) survey of a nationally representative sample of 2,511 low-wage U.S. workers, this Research Brief presents findings on the types of benefits provided by employers …

‘ Less Museum And More Like Disney’ The Infantilisation Of Dark Histories: Objective Violence At Bodmin Jail, Siân Lewis, Iain Channing, Oliver Smith Jun 2025

‘ Less Museum And More Like Disney’ The Infantilisation Of Dark Histories: Objective Violence At Bodmin Jail, Siân Lewis, Iain Channing, Oliver Smith

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences

This paper uses the Bodmin Jail Attraction in Cornwall, UK, as a case study to explore how sites of dark tourism have been subsumed into infantilised consumer culture. In these commodified, disney-esque forms, rather than being spaces of reflection and education, they act to perpetuate objective violence. This allows us to fetishise the subjective violence of the past and disavow our participation in or acceptance of present and future harms. Using a conceptual framework that connects dark tourism with historical and sensory criminology, we analyse data gathered from a field analysis of Bodmin Jail, alongside the analysis of 1505 Trip …

Staff Education On Evidence-Based Interventions To Reduce Fall Rates Among Hospitalized Adult Psychiatric Patients, Blessing Rita Ugbor Jun 2025

Staff Education On Evidence-Based Interventions To Reduce Fall Rates Among Hospitalized Adult Psychiatric Patients, Blessing Rita Ugbor

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

A staff education initiative was implemented in an inpatient psychiatric facility in the Southern United States to address the significant practice problem: inadequate knowledge of fall prevention strategies among psychiatric nurses. The identified knowledge gap impairs the nurses’ ability to recognize fall risk factors and apply evidence-based interventions. Psychiatric inpatients are particularly vulnerable to falls, which compromise patient safety, increase health care costs, and contribute to poor outcomes. The project was guided by a practice-focused question addressing whether staff education on evidence-based fall prevention strategies would enhance nurses’ knowledge and reduce fall rates. The purpose of the project was to …
