Vibemus: Proactive Agentic System For Music Personalization, Zhiliang Guo, Teng Tu, Yunshan Ma, Xun Yang
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Large language models (LLMs) enable diverse forms of AI-assisted creation, yet they often struggle to bridge the preference-articulation gap: users may provide incomplete or vague intentions or lack the vocabulary to specify what they want, yielding outputs misaligned with true preferences. To address this gap and facilitate music creation in a vibe-centric environment, we introduce VibeMus, a proactive agentic system built on open-source components. The system engages in multi-turn dialogue to progressively determine the music’s emotion, genre, lyrics, and other aspects before generation. Simulated evaluations show that proactive clarification improves alignment with users’ intended nuances. Our approach is training-free, leveraging …

Real-World Treatment Patterns And Management Gaps Of Lumbar Disc Herniation In The United States, Amit Bhandutia, Min Yang, Qing Liu, Yipeng Gao, Jiaxuan Liu, Steven Liu, Amy Guo, Kinsuk Chauhan

BACKGROUND: Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) affects approximately 1% to 3% of the population annually and leads to substantial physical burden, quality-of-life burden, and productivity loss. Commonly used interventions, including pharmacological and epidural steroid injections (ESIs), have limited high-quality evidence to support their effectiveness in the long-term for treating LDH beyond symptom relief. In general, there is a lack of consensus for timing of treatment after LDH onset and limited data on real-world treatment of LDH. The objective of this study was to describe current real-world treatment patterns and inform gaps in clinical management of patients with LDH. METHODS: A retrospective …

OBJECTIVE: This study seeks to determine the rate of postoperative surgical site infections (SSI) among clean head and neck surgeries and review perioperative antibiotic administration practices. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective review. SETTING: Pediatric tertiary care institution in New Orleans over a ten-year period. METHODS: A retrospective review was undertaken to identify clean head and neck surgical procedures performed at Manning Family Children's between 2013 and 2023. EPIC SlicerDicer™ was used to identify patients between ages 0-18 who underwent clean head and neck surgeries. Each chart was reviewed for perioperative antibiotic administration and occurrence of postoperative SSI. Rates of SSI were compared …

The Moderating Role Of Trait Online Disinhibition In Exacerbating The Online Victim-Bully Cycle, Sandeeshwara K Tennakoon Appuhamillage Kasturiratna, Andree Hartanto

The growth of the internet and social media as a communication platform has increased the incidence of cyberbullying victimisation. While there has been increasing research interest on the antecedents of cyberbullying perpetration, little is known on why some individuals who themself experience cyber victimisation are more likely to become cyberbullying perpetrators. Considering the large number of individuals who experience cyberbullying victimisation in the current, highly digitalised world, this trend of victims turning into bullies poses a worrisome possibility and deserves research attention. One promising individual difference that could potentially moderate the relationship between cyberbullying victimisation can lead to cyberbullying perpetration …

Behavior Change Communication Strategies On Human Immunodeficiency Virus /Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome Risk Reduction For Long-Distance Truckers In Kenya, Cyrus Mutie, John Gachohi, Kawira Kithuci, Grace Mbuthia
Behavior Change Communication Strategies On Human Immunodeficiency Virus /Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome Risk Reduction For Long-Distance Truckers In Kenya, Cyrus Mutie, John Gachohi, Kawira Kithuci, Grace Mbuthia
School of Nursing & Midwifery, East Africa
Background Long-distance truckers (LDTs) not only experience heightened risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections due to risky sexual networks, but are also hard to reach with consistent risk reduction messages due to their often disruptive work schedules. Besides, evidence of the existing behavior change communication (BCC) strategies to enhance HIV/ acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) risk reduction is limited. Thus, the study sought to explore the most effective and preferred BCC strategies for adoption among LDTs in Kenya.
Methods and Methodology Nine key informants and 18 in-depth interviews were used to gather qualitative data from purposively sampled participants at Kenya's …
International Accreditation For Acute Stroke Care: Lessons Learnt From A Kenyan Stroke Centre, Dilraj Sokhi
International Accreditation For Acute Stroke Care: Lessons Learnt From A Kenyan Stroke Centre, Dilraj Sokhi
Internal Medicine, East Africa
Background: The prevalence of stroke is increasing in Africa, yet resources remain limited in managing the disease. Whilst there are international guidelines on how to set up and manage stroke services, even in resource-limited settings, the uptake remains low. We describe here the opportunities and challenges we faced whilst setting up a stroke care pathway of international standards in a regional referral hospital in East Africa.
Methods: We describe how we adapted international stroke care guidelines for acute primary stroke (including both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke), and used these to inform our stroke care pathway. We highlight opportunities of leveraging …

Preventing Workplace Violence: A Strategic Imperative For Today’S Organizations, Alan Saquella
Publications
Workplace violence is a critical and growing concern for organizations across all industries. It encompasses a wide spectrum from bullying and verbal threats to physical assaults and, in the most tragic cases, homicide. While acts of extreme violence often dominate news headlines, they are typically preceded by missed warning signs and failed interventions.

Background: The emergency department (ED) is the safety net for and a common point of healthcare access for socioeconomically disadvantaged older adults. Little is known about socioeconomically disadvantaged older ED patients' perspectives on their health, healthcare access, and ED use. Such insights could guide tailored interventions to address unmet clinical and health-related social needs (HRSN).
Methods: We performed a qualitative study with older adults in a single public safety net hospital ED. We interviewed patients age 60+ who had ≥ 4 ED 4 visits in the past year. Semi-structured interviews explored perceived health needs and motivations underlying ED visits. We …
