Medication Adherence Among Partnered, Sexual Minority Men Living With Hiv: What’S Love, Interdependence And Comorbidities Got To Do With It?, Kendell M. Doyle

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

Sexual minority men (SMM) report higher incidence and prevalence rates of HIV infection relative to their heterosexual counterparts. The burden of HIV infection has garnered research attention focused on HIV risk reduction and HIV disease management (such as medication adherence). More recently, attention has been paid to the association of comorbid chronic health conditions and ART adherence among people living with HIV (PLWH) more broadly. Yet, limited attention has been paid to the association of comorbidities among SMM living with HIV specifically, despite the high rates of HIV among this population and various other risk factors that put SMM at …

Characterization Of The Attentional Profile In Women And Girls With A Fragile X Premutation Allele, Shira Russell-Giller

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

The fragile X premutation (PM), characterized by 55 to 200 CGG repeats in the FMR1 gene, is associated with diverse clinical outcomes, including cognitive and neuropsychiatric changes. Despite most individuals with a PM presenting without overt clinical symptoms, adults face increased risks for conditions associated with a PM, including higher rates of attention and executive difficulties. This dissertation investigates the developmental trajectory of attention and executive functioning changes in females with a PM using a series of prospective studies employing the Attention Network Test (ANT). Study 1 re-analyzed prior data on sustained attention in women with a PM, revealing significant …

Epidemiology And Microbiology Of Admission Surveillance Nasal Swabs In A Level Iv Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Nicu) And Their Association With Subsequent Infections , Kedar Tilak, Neena Kanwar, Rangaraj Selvarangan, Venkatesh Sampath

Posters

Background Newborns, especially preterm infants, are highly susceptible to sepsis, a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. Known risk factors include prematurity, low birth weight, prolonged NICU stay, and use of central venous catheters. The link between early nasal colonization (within the first week of life) and later infections is unclear. Although many NICUs screen for Staphylococcus aureus using nasal swabs, the predictive value of early colonization by other Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria is not well understood. In our NICU, admission nasal swabs were sent for aerobic cultures to detect these organisms, highlighting the need for further research into …

The Dual Impact Of Ict Use On Work Autonomy, Workload, Work Engagement, And Work-Family Conflict: Moderating Effects Of Perceived Organizational Support And Conscientiousness, Shenghui Han

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

This study investigates the dual impact of information and communication technology (ICT) use intensity on employee outcomes in the workplace, with a particular focus on work autonomy, workload, work engagement, and work–family conflict (WFC). Drawing upon the job demands-resources (JD-R) model and conservation of resources (COR) theory, I propose a dual-pathway framework in which ICT use intensity acts as both a job resource and a job demand. The study also examines the moderating roles of perceived organizational support (POS) and conscientiousness.

Data were collected from 414 full-time employees across six companies in China through a three-wave survey with two-week intervals …

Advocate GME

Purpose: To describe a case of massive pulmonary embolism (PE) in a patient with acromegaly and multiple prior venous thromboembolic (VTE) events who was perioperative, emphasizing the hypercoagulable risk and management challenges. Background: Acromegaly, characterized by elevated insulin-like growth factor-1, may predispose patients to thrombotic events via endothelial dysfunction and procoagulant changes. Data linking acromegaly to venous thromboembolism (VTE) are limited, but recurrent events are clinically significant, especially when anticoagulation is interrupted perioperatively. Methods: A 64-year-old male with acromegaly secondary to a pituitary microadenoma (s/p gamma knife) and a history of multiple VTE events presented for elective substernal thyroidectomy and …

Consumption Of Negative Media Content Mediates The Association Between Levels Of Trauma Exposure And Insomnia Severity In Hispanic Young Adults, Michiyo Hirai, Laura L. Vernon Sep 2025

Consumption Of Negative Media Content Mediates The Association Between Levels Of Trauma Exposure And Insomnia Severity In Hispanic Young Adults, Michiyo Hirai, Laura L. Vernon

Psychological Science Faculty Publications

Research has shown that individuals who have experienced traumatic events are at greater risk of developing severe insomnia than those without trauma. Further, according to the stress sensitization hypothesis, victims of multiple traumas, compared to those who have experienced a single trauma, are particularly vulnerable to severe insomnia. One potential mechanism underlying the association between trauma experiences and insomnia is media exposure. Although avoidance behaviors are symptoms of posttraumatic stress, victims of traumas also demonstrate attentional bias toward threats and difficulty disengaging attention from threats. These cognitive tendencies may result in heightened vigilance to negative media content, particularly trauma-related content, …

Chagas disease, caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, is a significant challenge for canine health, with limited diagnostic tools. This study assessed the performance of a novel Tc-24 recombinant antigen ELISA compared to three commercial diagnostic tests on 70 serum samples from kennel dogs in Texas. The Tc-24 ELISA demonstrated high sensitivity (87.5%) and specificity (91.2%) compared to Indirect Fluorescent Antibody (IFA) testing, with significant differences in Tc-24 optical density (OD) between positives and negatives (0.607 vs. 0.089, p < 0.001). When compared to Chagas Stat-Pak (SP), Tc-24 ELISA showed sensitivity and specificity values of 82.1% and 86.7%, respectively (p < 0.001). For Chagas Detect Plus (IB), the assay achieved a sensitivity of 80.0% and specificity of 93.1% (p < 0.001). Spearman correlation analysis revealed significant associations between Tc-24 OD and SP (r = 1.0, p = 0.0167), IB (r = 0.9, p = 0.0833) and IFA (r = 0.6273, p = 0.044). Elevated immunochromatographic values in commercial kits (SP or IB) correlated with Tc-24 OD (1.17 vs. 0.039, p < 0.001), achieving 100% sensitivity and 95.8% specificity based on positive results from commercial kits. These findings suggest that Tc-24 ELISA is a reliable and accurate serological tool for diagnosing T. cruzi infection in dogs, with the potential to enhance diagnostic capabilities in veterinary medicine.
