P.L.A.Y. For All Pilot: Effects Of A Community-Based, Inclusive After-School Program On Physical Activity And Motor-Skill Outcomes, Allison R. Tsuchida, Karl-Richard Hennebach, Erin E. Centeio
International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
After-school programs for physical activity (PA) can contribute to helping children and youth achieve the suggested 60 minutes a day of PA. Previous research also suggests that developing motor competency can positively impact long-term PA participation. Additionally, parent and peer support can help children and youth overcome barriers to PA participation. The primary purpose of this pilot research study was to determine the effects of an inclusive after-school program on PA levels and motor-skill outcomes for children with and without disabilities. A secondary purpose was to examine parental support for physical activity and children’s physical activity and motor skills. 38 …

Relationship Between Leadership Styles And Teacher Job Satisfaction After Covid-19, Willona E. Johnson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The educational sector in the United States experienced substantial workforce changes during the Great Resignation, a period following the COVID-19 pandemic when many employees left their jobs. In response, school leaders were encouraged to understand the relationship between their leadership styles and teacher job satisfaction. This quantitative correlational study used Job Satisfaction Theory as its theoretical framework to examine the relationship between three leadership styles—transactional, transformational, and laissez-faire (passive-avoidant)—and teacher job satisfaction in the post-pandemic context. Eighty-two teachers participated by completing the Job Satisfaction Survey and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ). Results from the multiple linear regression analysis were statistically …

Exploring Successful Financing Strategies For Developing Real Estate In Cameroon, Esoh Etebe Elah
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Financing constraints have become a significant problem for leaders of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) developing real estate in Cameroon. Cameroon SME real estate development leaders often lack knowledge of financing strategies to mitigate financial barriers and improve business sustainability. Grounded in the financing constraint theory, this qualitative pragmatic inquiry project was to explore the successful financing strategies Cameroon SME real estate development leaders used. Seven leaders of Cameroon real estate development SMEs were interviewed, and public documents were reviewed. The semistructured interview and document data were analyzed using thematic analysis, resulting in five themes: (a) financing strategies, (b) funding …

Diet can be an important health factor that links fitness to an individual’s ecology. The gut microbiome responds to diet changes and plays an important role in host physiology. Dietary interventions are known to impact gut microbiome composition, but long-term effects and to what extent these impacts vary among individuals at different life-history stages are unclear. To address this question, we performed a supplemental feeding experiment by providing live mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) to Sialia sialis (Eastern Bluebird) during the chick-rearing period. We produced 16S metabarcoding data to quantify gut microbiome diversity from fecal samples of adults and nestlings …

Anhedonia is increasingly recognized as a transdiagnostic risk factor for psychopathology. New evidence demonstrates that anhedonia is present in infancy and early childhood. Structural variability in striatal regions involved in reward processing and pleasure seeking is concurrently linked to anhedonia, yet few studies have examined whether striatal differences presage anhedonia, and none have examined prospective associations before middle childhood. The present study examined whether neuroanatomical markers that confer risk for anhedonia can be detected as early as the neonatal period. Specifically, we tested whether the volume of striatal regions in neonates predicted the emergence of infant anhedonic behaviors at six …

Increasing Staff Knowledge In An Assisted Living Facility, Lindy Hilding
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The practice problem I identified was a rising number of resident falls throughout the past 6-12 months at a 29-bed assisted living facility (ALF). The organization requested an education program on evidence-based practices on fall prevention in older adults. I used the project question to explore if an education program would increase the knowledge of the staff and caregivers at the ALF. Numerous sources of evidence supported the practice guidelines including fall risk assessment tools. During the facility monthly staff meeting, participants completed a six-question knowledge assessment on falls. The participants completed the same assessment after the education program, as …

Data on health equity to inform societally relevant evidence based decisions and policy making are lacking in the research literature. Observational studies have the potential to provide data on health equity. Yet, guidance on how to report health equity data and considerations in observational research is inadequate. The STROBE-Equity extension addresses this gap by providing a structured set of criteria to enhance the reporting of health equity data and considerations.

KRAS is among the most frequently mutated oncogenes in cancer, and for decades, efforts at pharmacological blockade of its function in solid cancers have been unsuccessful. A notable advance in this endeavor is the recent development of small molecule KRAS inhibitors, which enable direct targeting of the mutant oncoprotein. Here, we comprehensively evaluate the pre-clinical efficacy of BI-2493 a panKRASi, a first-in-class allele agnostic mutant KRAS inhibitor, in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). We report effective tumor growth suppression across a broad range of models, including cell lines, patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), syngeneic orthotopic models, and prolonged survival in genetically engineered mouse …

Aberrant levels or structures of RNA isoforms are a hallmark of many cancers, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), yet their role in AML chemoresistance remains unclear. We conducted a paired analysis of RNA isoform changes in patients with AML before therapy and at relapse after chemotherapy and identified intragenic DNA methylation at the proximal promoter of the transcription factor RUNX1, which resulted in elevated expression of the long-isoform RUNX1C through its alternative distal promoter. The unique N-terminal region of RUNX1C orchestrated an isoform-specific transcriptional program that promoted chemoresistance, with its direct target BTG2 playing a role in chemotherapy resistance. …

Algorithms For Assessing Soil Salinity Levels Based On Remote Sensing Imagery, Bobomurod Mamitjonovich Tojiboev
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
This article investigates methods for assessing soil salinity levels based on satellite (remote sensing) imagery and their calculation algorithms. Determining the degree of salinity plays a crucial role in the rational use of land resources and increasing agricultural efficiency. The study analyzes indices for determining soil salt content using remote sensing technologies, particularly multispectral images obtained from satellite systems such as Landsat and Sentinel (for example, SI - Salinity Index, NDVI - Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, and others). Furthermore, algorithms are developed based on these indices that enable automatic determination of salinity assessments. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and geographic information …

Cognition, White Matter Hyperintensities And Suicide Risk In Late-Life Depression Patients: An Exploratory Study, Martha Sajatovic
Faculty Scholarship
Objective: Suicide among older adults represents a major public health concern and is closely associated with late-life depression (LLD). White matter hyperintensities (WMHs), frequently observed in the aging population, have been linked to both LLD and cognitive impairment. However, the role of WMH burden and cognitive dysfunction in older adults with LLD who have recently attempted suicide remains unclear. This study aims to investigate differences in WMH burden and cognitive performance across three groups: LLD patients with a recent suicide attempt (recent suicide attempt group, RSA), non-suicidal LLD patients (non-suicidal group, NS), and healthy older adults (healthy comparison group, HC). …

BACKGROUND: Spectrophotometric testing to detect sample hemolysis is available from central laboratory chemistry analyzers. While the cause and preventative measures are known, hemolysis continues to be a common preanalytical error, especially for specimens collected from the emergency department (ED) and intensive care units (ICUs) where point-of-care analyzers are commonly used for whole blood electrolyte testing. Recently, these analyzers have employed technology to detect hemolysis directly on whole blood samples.
METHODS: Experienced laboratorians and physicians from the clinical laboratory, ED, adult and neonatal ICUs provide a summary of the medical importance of in vitro hemolysis. Causes for in vivo hemolysis are …

This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was designed to develop a clinical practice guideline (CPG) to enhance appointment adherence among adults with depression in an outpatient mental health clinic, thereby improving outcomes. The practice-focused question was Will a CPG utilizing a multimodal reminder system improve appointment adherence? Missed appointments in outpatient mental health care contribute to delayed treatment, increased symptom severity, and higher rates of emergency care utilization. These disruptions not only compromise clinical outcomes but also financially burden healthcare systems and disrupt continuity of care. The CPG was developed using the Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice model and a …

Inhalation of Rhodococcus equi causes severe pneumonia in humans and animals worldwide, most commonly affecting horse foals. The standard for preventing R. equi pneumonia in foals is transfusion of hyperimmune plasma, which is expensive and carries the risk of adverse effects. Our goal was to passively immunize foals against R. equi by nebulizing mRNA encoding an equine monoclonal antibody (mAb) against the virulence-associated protein A (VapA) directly into the lungs. VapA-specific memory B cells from an immunized horse were used to identify and select the sequence for an equine immunoglobulin (Ig)G1 mAb. Spreading depolarization (SD) is a slowly propagating wave of massive cellular depolarization that transiently impairs the function of affected brain regions. Although SD typically arises as an isolated hemispheric event, we previously reported that reducing M-type potassium current (IKM) by ablation of Kcnq2 in forebrain excitatory neurons results in tightly coupled spontaneous bilateral seizure–SD complexes in the awake mouse cortex.
Here we find that enhanced persistent Na+ current attributable to gain-of-function mutations in Scn8a (N1768D/+, hereafter D/+) produces a similar compound cortical excitability phenotype. Chronic direct-current (DC)-band EEG recording detected spontaneous bilateral seizure–SD complexes accompanied by seizures with …

Objectives: Workers in high-stakes occupations, such as first responders, are at risk of exposure to potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) and moral injury, yet research with first responders has been scarce. This study aimed to assess the frequency of exposure to PMIEs, the prevalence of moral injury, and the correlation between moral injury and other mental health symptoms. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and paramedics working for a large urban Fire Department in California were invited to complete an online, confidential survey using validated scales to assess exposure to PMIEs, moral injury symptoms, and symptoms …

Student Exploration Of Self And Identity Within The Context Of On-Campus Employment, Jason Foster, Hermen Díaz Iii
New York Journal of Student Affairs
Utilizing constructivist interpretive inquiry, this study examined the role of student employment in the Division of Student Affairs for four current undergraduate students. Findings indicate that student employment provided an important space for student employees to develop an identity-centric sense of self, a sense of belonging, and benefit from culturally competent supervision. Implications for practice are discussed to better facilitate student affairs employment as a place of intentionality and development.
The Buddhist Recluse In The Late Heian (794–1185) And Early Kamakura (1185–1333) Periods As Seen Through Kamo-No-Chômei’S Hôjôki And The Poems Of Saigyô, Scott Lloyd
The Ozark Historical Review
Kamo-no-Chômei and Saigyô,two of Japan’s most well-known aesthete-recluses and open a window through their works not only into the life of the recluse as an individual but also into the broader culture. The following pages will attempt to shed light on the overall concept of reclusion and its importance by looking specifically at what they had to say about their own experiences: Saigyô through his collected poems, and Chômei through his seminal poetic essay Hôjôki “Ten-Foot- Square Hut”, written in 1212.
