The Andrew Russell Veteran Living Program: A Mixed Method Evaluation Study, Kylie P. Russell, Tracey H. Coventry

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Background: The experience of homelessness for Australian defence force veterans is a complex problem that centres on their inability to reconnect with the community on their return (Keeling, 2018; Guthrie-Gower & Wilson-Menzfeld, 2022). Although considered underreported in Australia, veterans are more likely than the general population to be chronically homeless (Bond et al., 2022; Hilferty et al., 2021). Thus, homelessness solutions are at the forefront of Australian policy makers, service providers and support agencies (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2022). Veteran homelessness has been addressed successfully by the Returned and Services League Care Andrew Russell Veteran Living program through …

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

End-stage kidney disease (ESKD) disproportionately affects Hispanic and American Indian (AI) persons with prevalence rates more than double of White persons. Furthermore, all-cause mortality is significantly higher for Hispanic and AI. The increased prevalence and mortality rates can be attributed to the higher level of health disparities caused by social determinants of health (SDOH). We are developing machine learning and computational models based on patient-level ESKD data at zip code or county level paired with SDOH data to predict the risk of mortality among Hispanic and AI persons with ESKD in South Dakota who have varying socio-demographic characteristics. The primary …

Building Decolonial Nursing Curricula To Address Disparities In Indigenous Health, Nicole Ashley Thomas, Brenda Owen, Anne Ersig, Bram Wispelwey, Lisa C. Bratske

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Social and health inequities and inequalities are rising all over the world (Smith, 2012; McGibbon, et. al., 2014; Chinn, et. al., 2018). Nursing students should therefore be educated to understand the multifaceted factors creating health inequities. The lack of nursing courses highlighting the effects of colonization, environmental justice, upstream structural and social determinants of health, globalization, and state violence must be addressed. Colonization, broadly speaking, characterizes the Eurocentric project to “civilize” the rest of the world utilizing various forms of violence (McGibbon, et. al., 2014). The persistent and ongoing reproduction and recurrence of colonialism, enacting cycles of disenfranchisement and oppression, …

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has transformed healthcare delivery through real-time monitoring and data exchange. However, this integration of smart medical devices has also introduced critical cybersecurity threats, particularly spoofing attacks, which can compromise patient safety and system reliability. Conventional Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) often fail to address IoMT-specific challenges such as class imbalance, computational constraints, and the need for real-time adaptability. This study proposes a Capsule Network (CapsNet)-based IDS that leverages spatial dependency modeling and hierarchical feature relationships to detect spoofing attacks in IoMT environments. Using the CICIoMT2024 dataset, we implemented a binary classification framework where spoofing instances …

Contested Development: China’S Influence, Authoritarian Agency, And Ngo Resistance In Uganda, Saara E. Leppanen

Global Governance Theses and Dissertations

In 2021, the Ugandan government suspended the operations of 54 non-governmental organizations (NGOs), citing a range of administrative and legal justifications. This crackdown reflects a broader pattern emerging across the African continent, where over the past twenty years, more than twenty-four states have introduced restrictions on NGOs, particularly those engaged in human rights advocacy and governance. At the same time, the continent has witnessed a marked increase in Chinese investment, most notably through Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), launched in 2013 as a global infrastructure and development project. While scholarship on the BRI has increased, limited attention has been …

An Exploration Of The Evolving Boundary-Spanning Leadership Role Of Architects, Rory Concannon, Roisin Murphy, Oluwasegun Seriki

Articles

Architects form part of multidisciplinary teams in the construction of the built environment. Traditionally they have played a leading role within the construction process, often managing entire projects to completion. In recent years the composition of construction teams have evolved, leading to a perception that the architects leadership role has been diminished. Little is known about the boundary-spanning leadership required by architects, particularly in the light of the evolving roles. Through in-depth, semi-structured interviews, this research reduces this gap by exploring architect’s leadership practices in the context of changing boundaries within the construction team. Our findings reveal six specific competencies …

Bartók’S Romanian Folk Dances: A Consideration Of Sound And Movement, Bailey Frame Sep 2025

Bartók’S Romanian Folk Dances: A Consideration Of Sound And Movement, Bailey Frame

Theses and Dissertations

Béla Bartók (1881-1945) cared deeply about authenticity in his work. He continually passed by derivative versions, and instead sought the oldest, earliest, most inaugural version of each folk tune to use as that launching point for his compositions. As he collected the Transylvanian folk tunes that would become his Romanian Folk Dances, he disregarded inconveniences like bad weather and exhausting travel, and he doggedly lugged with him a newly invented Edison phonograph. Though it was unwieldy and fickle, the device allowed him to capture folk music in the moment it was created. Not one for sterile auditoriums or music studios, …

Faculty Research 2025

Aberrant levels or structures of RNA isoforms are a hallmark of many cancers, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), yet their role in AML chemoresistance remains unclear. We conducted a paired analysis of RNA isoform changes in patients with AML before therapy and at relapse after chemotherapy and identified intragenic DNA methylation at the proximal promoter of the transcription factor RUNX1, which resulted in elevated expression of the long-isoform RUNX1C through its alternative distal promoter. The unique N-terminal region of RUNX1C orchestrated an isoform-specific transcriptional program that promoted chemoresistance, with its direct target BTG2 playing a role in chemotherapy resistance. …

Assessing The Feasibility Of Implementing An Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Program, Renee N. Spencer, Sandhya Ashokkumar, Erin Kern, Pranav Patel, Jachrise Sibblis, Alexander Kuc, Adam Green, Vishal P. Jani

Cooper Rowan Medical Journal

Introduction: Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (eCPR) has been used to improve survival in select cardiac arrest patients. Success is linked to patient volume, with centers classified as low (0-6), medium (7-12), or high (>12) volume based on annual cases. We hypothesize that Cooper has a large enough eligible patient population to benefit from implementation of an ECPR program.

Methods: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients transported to Cooper Hospital over six years were assessed for eCPR candidacy via retrospective chart review. In-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) eCPR data was also collected and combined with OHCA data to project annual eCPR …
