Evaluation Of Microwave Treatment Of Pfos-Laden Granular Activated Carbon, Rachel Melo Fonseca
Evaluation Of Microwave Treatment Of Pfos-Laden Granular Activated Carbon, Rachel Melo Fonseca
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated the microwave treatment as a potential regeneration approach for PFOS-laden granular activated carbon (GAC). PFOS was used as a model legacy PFAS, and calcium was selected to examine how inorganic constituents may influence PFAS loading and fluorine behavior during treatment. Microwave temperature profiling showed that GAC temperatures increased with treatment time and power level, reaching approximately 400-950°C. Selected microwave conditions reduced PFOS-derived extractable organic fluorine (EOF), with apparent EOF reduction increasing from 65.5% after 1 min to 96.8% after 4 min. Calcium increased PFOS-derived EOF loading before microwave treatment but did not show a consistent effect on …
From Seductress To Sovereign: A Reassessment Of Cleopatra Vii’S Power, Gender, And Historic Representation, Jordan L. Myrick
From Seductress To Sovereign: A Reassessment Of Cleopatra Vii’S Power, Gender, And Historic Representation, Jordan L. Myrick
History Theses, Dissertations, and Student Creative Activity
Cleopatra VII is one of the most famous women in history. As Queen of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt from 51 to 30 BCE and a major player in the Augustan age, she had the power to change the fate of empires. Despite her powerful position in history, however, Cleopatra’s historical narrative is often focused on the alliances that surrounded her. She has been portrayed as a seductive ruler who snared Julius Caesar and Marcus Antonius and whose drive for power led to the downfall of her kingdom. This original image of Cleopatra seems to have stemmed from the Augustan …

Maintaining Excellence Under Pressure: The Stress–Performance Paradox In A Multi-Campus State University System, Rico D. De Asis Dr.
Higher Learning Research Communications
Objectives: This study examines how multiple stress dimensions (levels, sources, effects, and coping mechanisms) relate to teaching performance in resource-constrained Southeast Asian public higher education, addressing the geographic concentration of faculty stress research in Western contexts.
Methods: Using multiple regression analysis with 80 permanent faculty members across three campuses of a state university system, I assessed relationships between stress factors and teaching performance. The study employed validated stress assessment instruments examining stress levels, sources (student, teacher, environment, work-related), effects (self, family, work), and coping mechanisms.
Results: Self effects of stress demonstrated the strongest negative relationship with teaching performance (R² …
Hospital-Acquired Infections Among Hispanic Diabetic Patients: Considering Geographic And Substance Use Factors In Southern Puerto Rico, Fabian A. Ramirez Rivera
Hospital-Acquired Infections Among Hispanic Diabetic Patients: Considering Geographic And Substance Use Factors In Southern Puerto Rico, Fabian A. Ramirez Rivera
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) remain a major cause of preventable morbidity, mortality, and healthcare utilization among hospitalized patients. Limited research has examined the relationship between diabetes and HAIs in Puerto Rican populations. The purpose of this quantitative cross-sectional study was to examine the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its association with HAI characteristics and hospitalization outcomes among patients in southern Puerto Rico. The chronic care model provided a framework for evaluating whether diabetes status, geographic location, and substance use were associated with outcomes. Data were obtained through retrospective review of electronic health records from N = 846 patients …
Who Do You Think You’Re Talking To? A Longitudinal Study Of How Disclosed Partner Identity Shapes Relational Communication With Ai Among College Students, Vito Anthony Borio
Who Do You Think You’Re Talking To? A Longitudinal Study Of How Disclosed Partner Identity Shapes Relational Communication With Ai Among College Students, Vito Anthony Borio
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study presents a longitudinal, two-condition, between-subjects experiment in which partner identity is disclosed as either human or AI in text-based chat; however, all participants (N = 60) interacted with the same chatbot. Informed by both Social Information Processing Theory (SIPT; Walther, 1995) and the Computers Are Social Actors Paradigm (CASA; Nass & Moon, 2000), this design draws on the former’s longitudinal measurement tradition to empirically test whether its predictions hold, using the latter as both a framework and procedure for investigating chatbot interactions. The findings inform both theories, indicating that perceived partner identity significantly affects perceptions of relational …
Application Of Palmprint Data For Prediction Of Diabetes, Ramasamy K Mr
Application Of Palmprint Data For Prediction Of Diabetes, Ramasamy K Mr
Theses and Dissertations
Type 2 diabetes is one among the diabetes mellitus which has strong relation with lifestyle, genetics and metabolic dysfunction. The increasing global prevalence, rising healthcare costs, and high percentage of undiagnosed individuals leads to the need of noninvasive, cost-effective early detection methods. In conventional diagnostic methods, laboratory investigations and periodic clinical visits are needed, which may not be feasible for working and middle-aged populations. To overcome this, the research work proposes an automatic, non-invasive and early prediction of Type 2 diabetes using palmprint image analysis integrated with clinical data for identifying diabetic and non-diabetic individuals. The first proposed method aims …

The Tril Nurse Advocacy Model: A Practice-Grounded Framework For Sustainable Health System Change, Susanna Aba Abraham, Gifty Osei Berchie, Benjamin Kofi Anumel, Andrews Adjei Druye, Diana Bosomtwe-Duker
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
BACKGROUND: Advocacy is a professional nursing responsibility [1,2], and refers to speaking up or empowering marginalised individuals or groups [3]. Nursing advocacy requires "tending" to the needs of the community in which care occurs [4], thereby addressing the social determinants of health [5]. In 2025, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) redefined nursing with a call to extend advocacy beyond individual needs [4]. There is, however, a dearth of frameworks grounded in nursing practice that guide nurses in initiating and sustaining advocacy initiatives across the health system. This study therefore sought to describe the diverse strategies used in nurse-led advocacy …

Global learning is based on the principle that the world is a collection of interdependent systems and that higher education plays a vital role in fostering learners' ability to advance equity and justice (Zhou, 2022). Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is a pedagogical approach which allows students to participate in virtual global learning activities encouraging development of critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills, while enhancing recognition of diverse and global perspectives (Shaw et al., 2025) viewed as essential for safe patient care (Te et al, 2019). COIL has been in use in many universities in the United States and …

Psychometric Evaluation Of The 28-Item Brief Cope Scale Among Low-Income Parents, Jiying Ling, Dongjuan Xu, Yingcen Xie, Wen Liu
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Purpose. The 28-item Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced Inventory (Brief COPE) is a widely used instrument assessing coping strategies among adults, but its reported factor structure has ranged from 2 to 15 factors across populations (Solberg et al., 2022), raising concerns about structural stability. Only one study has applied item response theory (IRT) to examine item-level performance in cancer patients and caregivers (Baumstarck et al., 2017). Thus, this study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Brief COPE among low-income parents using factor analysis and IRT.
Methods. We analyzed baseline data from three clinical trials conducted between 2021 and 2024. Participants …

Effectiveness Of Medical Clowns In Improving Emotion For Children Undergoing Invasive Treatments, Pao-Li Pan, Wei-Wen Wu, Cheng-Shi Shiu, Meng-Yao Lu, Leigh Lu
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Background and Objective: Children diagnosed with cancer often find hospitalization and medical procedures confusing and distressing due to limited developmental understanding. Hospitalized children frequently experience heightened anxiety, especially during invasive procedures. Among psychosocial interventions, medical clowning has emerged as effective in improving emotional well-being. In Taiwan, past study suggested group-based medical clown services improve children’s emotional well-being, but evidence for individualized services—recently adopted in Taiwan—is limited. In other countries, individualized clown interventions before procedures, such as intravenous insertion or surgery, significantly reduce anxiety and distress. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of individualized medical clown services in enhancing the …

International Journal on Consumer Law and Practice
This article presents the first comprehensive empirical analysis of India’s Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), since its establishment in 2020, based on an examination of 165 orders across 118 cases through 2025. The study fills a critical research gap by systematically analysing CCPA’s enforcement patterns, procedural efficiency, and regulatory evolution. The unique dataset reveals that CCPA has fundamentally transformed India’s consumer protection landscape through a distinctive dual approach that combines reactive enforcement with proactive regulation. This study finds that 72 per cent of cases were initiated suo moto, indicating a paradigm shift from complaint-driven to preventive market surveillance and that …

“He Had Named Himself The Stranger”: From 'Germanic' Heroic Hospitality To Elvish Memorial Mediation In Tolkien’S Book Of Lost Tales, Paolo Pizzimento Dr.
Journal of Tolkien Research
This article examines the narrative functions of strangeness and hospitality in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Book of Lost Tales, focusing on Eriol’s transformation from foreign traveller into listener, witness, and transmitter of Elvish tradition. Through a comparative reading of selected Old Norse and Anglo-Saxon texts—particularly Hávamál, Gylfaginning, and Beowulf—it identifies recurrent literary configurations in which hospitality regulates admission, identity, reciprocity, danger, and access to knowledge. The comparison is morphological rather than genetic: it does not posit direct derivation or a uniform Germanic code. Drawing on Jan Assmann’s theory of cultural memory, the article argues that Tolkien redirects …
