Structural Variation Of The Right Coronary Ostium And Its Implications To Cardiac Medicine, Jessica L. Hensley, Joseph X. Anders, Timothy Robinson, William Srinivasan, Donald G. Matz, Ethan L. Snow
The Journal of Integrative Physiology
Introduction: The high oxygen demand of the heart’s myocardium is met via perfusion through the coronary arterial system. During embryological development, the right (RCA) and left (LMCA) coronary arteries fuse onto the aortic root, creating right (RCO) and left (LCO) ostial openings respectively to join the closed circulatory system. Regardless of their widely variable branching patterns, the ability of the RCA and LMCA to perfuse the myocardium initially relies on the functional patency of the coronary ostia. The objective of this study is to examine a unique extra-ostial tissue structure found overlying an RCO and provide a literature-based discussion of …

Duck, Duck, Prisoner Abuse: Trump Presidency, Prison Labor, And The Racketeer Influenced And Corrupt Organizations Act (Rico), Maya Huffman
Immigration and Human Rights Law Review
The use of compulsory prison labor in American jails and prisons has reached alarming levels. Despite the Thirteenth Amendment’s purpose of abolishing slavery in the United States, slavery-like conditions persist under the guise of compulsory prison labor. The Thirteenth Amendment created an important caveat to the prohibition of slavery in the United States: involuntary servitude is permissible as a punishment for crime. Across the country, incarcerated individuals are forced against their will to engage in physical labor with sub-standard safety protocols, endure physically and mentally abusive superiors, and receive little to no pay. Despite domestic and international condemnation of the …
Children’S Rights At The United States-Mexico Border: Is The United States Of America Breaking International Laws?, Avery Anderson
Children’S Rights At The United States-Mexico Border: Is The United States Of America Breaking International Laws?, Avery Anderson
Immigration and Human Rights Law Review
The treatment of migrant children at the United States-Mexico border has become a contentious issue worldwide. International human rights frameworks set certain standards for the treatment of migrant children, and there are growing allegations that the United States has violated international legal obligations due to its inadequate detention conditions. This article argues that while the United States is not explicitly violating international treaties due to specific reservations, its border policies are in direct contradiction with global norms for the humane treatment of children. Through a review of the legal obligations under customary international law and international treaties, this article highlights …
Kabwe’S Crisis: Toxic Lead Waste Poisoning Zambia’S Children, Jasmyn Hardin
Kabwe’S Crisis: Toxic Lead Waste Poisoning Zambia’S Children, Jasmyn Hardin
Immigration and Human Rights Law Review
Kabwe, Zambia is among the most polluted cities, the result of nearly a century of lead mining and smelting. Despite the mine’s closure in 1994, an estimated 6.4 million tons of lead-contaminated waste continues to expose thousands of children to life-altering—and often irreversible—health consequences. This Article examines the Zambian government’s failure to remediate the environmental harm and protect children’s rights, analyzing both domestic legal obligations and international human rights treaties. It argues that the State’s pursuit of economic gain through continued lead processing has come at the expense of safeguarding the right to health and a healthy environment. Through an …
When Love Is Not Enough: The Muñoz Decision And The Erosion Of Family Unity In U.S. Immigration Law, Katerina Fernandez
When Love Is Not Enough: The Muñoz Decision And The Erosion Of Family Unity In U.S. Immigration Law, Katerina Fernandez
Immigration and Human Rights Law Review
The Supreme Court’s decision in Department of State v. Muñoz marks a significant shift in U.S. immigration law, reinforcing the doctrine of consular non-reviewability and weakening long-standing protections for family unity. Historically, marriage and family have been recognized as fundamental rights; yet, Muñoz limits judicial oversight of visa denials, allowing for indefinite separations between U.S. citizens and their non-citizen spouses. This piece examines the ruling’s legal and human rights implications, its parallels to family separation policies, and its potential to justify future erosion of parental rights in immigration enforcement. It also examines possible legal avenues to challenge arbitrary family separations, …
Integrating Transversal Skills In Hospitality And Tourism Curricula: Practical Recommendations From Faculty., Brendan Cronin, Iris Zwissig
Integrating Transversal Skills In Hospitality And Tourism Curricula: Practical Recommendations From Faculty., Brendan Cronin, Iris Zwissig
ICHRIE Research Reports
Transversal skills have gained increased attention due to rapid technological advances. As AI solutions emerge and new jobs arise from digital access and growing work-age populations (World Economic Forum, 2025), academics must reassess teaching methods and the skills needed in a changing workplace. Incorporating hard and soft skills in hospitality and tourism curricula is vital (Ezeuduji et al., 2023). However, research found that many faculty do not feel prepared to incorporate transversal skills in their teaching. This article presents an innovative approach with recommendations for integrating transversal skills through curriculum enhancement and teaching methods. The authors propose a three-step framework: …

Habeas Mentem: Revisiting Sufficiency-Of-Counsel Standards In Post-Aedpa Habeas Corpus Proceedings, Alejandra S. Alvarez
Habeas Mentem: Revisiting Sufficiency-Of-Counsel Standards In Post-Aedpa Habeas Corpus Proceedings, Alejandra S. Alvarez
Florida Law Review
The Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 (AEDPA) has contributed to long-standing complexities in our understanding of habeas corpus and its function as a device for judicial inquiry into the constitutionality of imprisonment. Since its passage and subsequent interpretations by Congress and the courts, criminal defendants have faced heightened challenges in seeking federal review of their state convictions. The United States Supreme Court has yet to recognize a concrete right to counsel for post-conviction proceedings--during which most criminal defendants file their habeas petitions claiming, for example, ineffective assistance of trial counsel-meaning that a large number of defendants file …
Taxation Without Immunization: Excercising The Federal Taxing Power To Increase Childhood Vaccination Rates, Nicholas R. Consalvo
Taxation Without Immunization: Excercising The Federal Taxing Power To Increase Childhood Vaccination Rates, Nicholas R. Consalvo
Florida Law Review
This Note will discuss the need to exercise the taxing power of the federal government in an effort to restore immunization rates to their historically high levels. Recent spikes in unvaccinated children have resulted in global outbreaks of diseases that were near elimination. This Note's solution to the growing anti-vaccination movement is the implementation of a federal tax plan targeted at parents who—without a valid medical exemption—refuse to vaccinate their children against specific classes of vaccine-preventable diseases. This federal tax plan could take the form of an income-based tax, or loss of child tax credits, enforced against parents based on …
Judicial Resistance To Mandatory Arbitration As Federal Commandeering, Matthew J. Stanford, David A. Carrillo
Judicial Resistance To Mandatory Arbitration As Federal Commandeering, Matthew J. Stanford, David A. Carrillo
Florida Law Review
This Article argues that the current doctrine of preempting state substantive law in favor of the Federal Arbitration Act (FAA) contravenes core federalism principles generally, the Tenth Amendment specifically, and well-established anti-commandeering and federalism doctrine. These authorities are all concerned with a core federalism principle: state sovereignty.
The states retained sovereignty when they joined the Union. The Tenth Amendment expressly enshrines this retention. Modem federal court doctrine, which imposes federal arbitration law on the states, encroaches on retained state sovereignty by preempting state substantive law. This is erroneous regardless of whether Congress enacted the FAA as a rule of federal …

Rescinding Inclusion In The Administrative State: Adjudicating Daca, The Cenus, And The Military's Transgender Policy, Peter Margulies
Florida Law Review
The rescission of programs, policies, and practices by an incoming administration often raises legal questions. However, answers are harder to find. That is the case with the whirlwind of rollbacks proposed and implemented by the Trump administration in areas from transgender persons in the military to asking a citizenship question on the census and terminating Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS). This Article provides a lens for assessing the legality of these seemingly precipitous moves. Viewing these abrupt paradigm shifts as threshold rescissions clarifies the legal landscape. Threshold measures govern baseline access to goods and …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background: Electromyographic (EMG) normalization is essential for accurately measuring muscle activity across different populations and tasks. Various methods, including Maxi-mum Voluntary Isometric Contraction (MVIC) and Recurrence Quantification Analysis (RQA), have been employed to improve measurement reliability. However, discrepancies in results across studies necessitate a comprehensive review of normalization techniques. Objective: This report analyzed 40 research studies to evaluate EMG normalization and assessment methods, focusing on their reliability, applicability, and effectiveness across healthy and clinical populations. Methods: The studies employed a range of normalization techniques, including MVIC, submaximal contractions, task-specific approaches, and advanced methods such as RQA and Pre-Fatigue Maximal Voluntary …

Protecting Children's Rights In The National Climate Policies In Greece, Elpis Rerra
Protecting Children's Rights In The National Climate Policies In Greece, Elpis Rerra
COP30
This paper aims to address the question, “How can we ensure that children’s rights are protected in national climate policies?” Ιn the broader field of climate justice, ecocide, and security, the theme of this study is children’s rights in the context of climate change and how the government can truly include them in the climate policies. This paper begins by highlighting the importance of addressing the issue of protecting children's rights from the impact of climate change. Moreover, it underlines the critical and urgent nature of children’s vulnerability to climate change. The paper also examines Greek climate policies and whether …
Empowering Courts For Climate Justice: A Policy Proposal To Enhance Judicial Capacity Through The Paris Agreement Framework, Nourine Gad
COP30
This policy paper asserts that the strengthening of judicial capacity to deal with climate harm, especially ecocide, is urgently needed and that the Paris Agreement can play a huge role in this. Given that climate change has become a more political battle between justice and rights, courts have been playing a major role in holding governments and corporations accountable. Nevertheless, many national judiciaries do not have the instruments, jurisdiction, or the training to successfully adjudicate on complex climate cases. It is then argued that as a case study, Brazil has moved forward on the issue of climate rights through the …

Deep-Sea Mining In The Pacific: Climate Justice, Ecocide, And Security In Nauru And Kiribati, Zeyad El-Sayed
COP30
This policy paper explores how the growing international controversy over deep-sea mining (DSM) can be addressed under the considerations of climate justice, through analyzing two case studies, Nauru and Kiribati, of Pacific islands. Both states are highly vulnerable to climate change and economic instability, yet have adopted different strategies. Nauru has improved and enhanced its DSM plans in the Clarion–Clipperton Zone to ensure its sovereign development rights and economic needs. On the other hand, Kiribati has taken more mechanisms that are cautious measures to temporary pause the DSM negotiations in response to public pressure and environmental concerns. These cases show …
Toward A More-Than-Human Climate Diplomacy: Reclaiming Justice Beyond The Western Gaze, Leandro Gabriel Caporale
Toward A More-Than-Human Climate Diplomacy: Reclaiming Justice Beyond The Western Gaze, Leandro Gabriel Caporale
COP30
This policy paper interrogates the structural injustices embedded in the COP negotiation system, arguing that global climate governance remains constrained by colonial legacies, epistemic hierarchies, and an anthropocentric diplomatic model. Despite its stated goals of inclusivity, the UNFCCC process continues to marginalise Indigenous, Global South, and alternative voices, reinforcing power asymmetries that shape both participation and outcomes. Based in case studies from Ecuador and Bolivia—where rights of nature and Indigenous governance have been integrated into legal frameworks—this paper examines how alternative systems of environmental stewardship and political subjectivity can inform a more just diplomatic architecture. It proposes pragmatic, system-oriented reforms …

Our policy paper here is going to explore the urgent need to recognise and enhance the participation and integration of indigenous communities in global climate cases and discussions in decision making processes , despite their contribution now….we are focusing on their case now because they are the most Affected by its impacts , due to their strong connection to natural eco systems , their traditional knowledge and their practices are essential for the biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource management but , unfortunately there was a systemic exclusion due to some factors and limiting and representation in in climate conferences such …
Ecocide In The War On Gaza: An Environmental Crime That Affects The Whole World, Yazan A. Albatta
Ecocide In The War On Gaza: An Environmental Crime That Affects The Whole World, Yazan A. Albatta
COP30
Environmental destruction in conflict zones is an escalating global crisis that directly undermines climate justice and ecological stability. This policy paper examines the concept of ecocide through the lens of the war on Gaza, where the deliberate or reckless targeting of natural resources has caused severe and lasting damage to water, soil, air, and biodiversity. The Gaza case reveals how warfare can accelerate climate change, destroy carbon-absorbing ecosystems, and leave communities with uninhabitable land and poisoned water supplies. Using Gaza as the primary case study, and drawing comparisons to environmental impacts observed during the Iraq war, the paper analyzes the …
The Invisible Chains: Framing Abuse Of Dominant Position In Labor Markets, Giulia Mangiafico
The Invisible Chains: Framing Abuse Of Dominant Position In Labor Markets, Giulia Mangiafico
Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies
This paper examines how the concept of abuse of dominant position can be applied to the labour markets, where demand-side concentration and supply-side fragmentation generate monopsonistic dynamics that suppress wages, limit mobility, and reduce job security. It argues that traditional antitrust tools can be adapted to labour-specific contexts by redefining market boundaries through commuting zones, occupational substitutability, and recognition of artificial fragmentation. The study also addresses how exploitative practices such as non-compete agreements illustrate the concrete impact of employer power, and it highlights the need for a more coherent regulatory approach. Ultimately, it suggests that competition law, when enforced alongside …

Identifying noninvasive measures to assess intravascular volume status and risk stratify patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is needed. We assessed the predictive value of estimated plasma volume status (ePVS) using the Strauss-derived Duarte formula in PH-CKD patients. This single-center retrospective cohort analysis included patients with PH and CKD Stage 3b (CKD3b), Stage 4 (CKD4), or Stage 5 (CKD5) who underwent right heart catheterization from 2018 to 2023. Patients were categorized into low ePVS (< 6.2) and high ePVS (≥ 6.2) using Youden's J statistics. We used the Cox-proportional hazards model, adjusting for age, sex, and body mass index, to investigate the association between …

Evaluation Of Image Quality In Mobile Cone-Beam Ct With Dose Modulation Using Automatic Exposure Control: A Phantom Study, Keita Okazaki, Wenchao Cao, Reza Taleei, Firas Mourtada, Jun Li, Karen Mooney, Pramila Rani Anne, Yingxuan Chen
Department of Radiation Oncology Faculty Papers
BACKGROUND: The integration of mobile cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) into brachytherapy workflows offers clinical advantages such as immediate verification of applicator placement and adaptive treatment planning. These benefits require sufficient image quality to delineate applicators, target volumes, and organs at risk. A systematic evaluation of automatic exposure control (AEC) settings, radiation dose, and image quality is essential to ensure clinically acceptable imaging while minimizing patient exposure.
PURPOSE: This study evaluates the characteristics of AEC and its impact on image quality and radiation dose in a mobile CBCT system used for brachytherapy.
METHODS: The Elekta ImagingRing CBCT system was used to …
