Pharmacy Faculty Publications and Presentations

Objectives: To describe the implementation and impact of a collaborative practice agreement (CPA) for emergency medicine pharmacists (EMPs) that grants them broad prescriptive authority to resolve outpatient discharge prescription issues independently. Methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review of all prescriptions written by EMPs under a CPA to resolve discharge prescription issues at a 70-bed emergency department (ED) within a large health system in South Dallas, Texas. This review covered the period from November 1, 2021, to June 30, 2023. EMPs were authorized to independently address prescription problems without a provider’s direct involvement. We collected data on patient demographics, the …

Proteomic Approaches To Investigate Pp2a-B55 Substrates And Cellular Function, Brennan C. Mcewan Oct 2025

Proteomic Approaches To Investigate Pp2a-B55 Substrates And Cellular Function, Brennan C. Mcewan

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

Cell division is controlled in large part by reversible protein phosphorylation. The phosphorylation state of proteins during mitosis and other phases of the cell cycle represents a careful balance of activity between kinases and opposing phosphatases. The phosphoprotein phosphatase (PPP) family is responsible for the majority of serine and threonine dephosphorylation. Members of the PPP family are composed of a catalytic subunit paired with a regulatory subunit that targets them towards specific substrates.

The most abundant PPP, PPP2A, paired with its regulatory B55 subunit, is thought to be the phosphatase responsible for the dephosphorylation of substrates during mitotic exit. Despite …

Sex Worker Stigma, Morality And Ambivalent Sexism, Emily Kate Kinzel Oct 2025

Sex Worker Stigma, Morality And Ambivalent Sexism, Emily Kate Kinzel

Dissertations and Theses

Sex worker stigma has received limited attention in psychological research. Although stigma is often theorized to relate to moral concerns, the relationship between stigma and moral concerns has not been empirically established. This study aims to address these gaps by developing a measurement tool for attitudes towards sex workers--specifically an implicit association test (IAT)--and explore the relationships between sex worker stigma, moral concerns, and ambivalent sexism. Mock policy questions on the criminalization and punishment of sex workers were also included to approximate behavioral intentions of participants. A cross-sectional correlational study of 168 community members found evidence that both moral concerns …

Active Learning: Eight Models That Shape Instructional Practice, A.E. Dreyfuss, Ana Fraiman, Karmen T. Yu

Publications and Research

Developed since the mid-20th century, several instructional models have provided practical means to shift the emphasis in learning from lecture to engagement by students. The snapshots of models presented in this paper include Cooperative Learning, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Supplemental Instruction (SI) (also PALS, PASS), Team-Based Learning (TBL), Emerging Scholars Program (Mathematics Workshop, MathExcel), Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL), Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL), and Learning Assistants (LA). These models have been well-disseminated, widely adopted, and incorporated in disciplines beyond their origins. For purposes of exploration and consideration of implementation, these “snapshots” provide an overview. Features of each model are …

Objectives and aims: Ocrelizumab (OCR) is disease-modifying therapy that depletes B cells for the treatment of patients with relapsing and progressive multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim of this study was to evaluate occurrence of hypogammaglobulinemia and infection rates in patients with MS treated with OCR for up to 5.9 years in a real-world, single-center study. Methods: We assessed immunoglobulins IgG, IgM, IgA; CD19, CD4, CD8 cell counts, anti-JCV antibodies, at baseline and every six months prior to each OCR infusion. Mixed effects regression models controlling for random patient intercept were used to analyze immunological trends. Infections requiring oral or intravenous …

Compost Grinder For The University Of South Carolina Office Of Sustainability, Rori E. Pumphrey, Grace Yaegel, Aaron R. Sawyer, Bradley White

Senior Theses

This project originates from a collaboration with the USC Office of Sustainability, which seeks to improve the handling and processing of food waste generated on campus. The primary challenge is the difficulty in composting certain types of food waste, such as avocado pits, pumpkin rinds, and other dense or fibrous organic materials that are not easily broken down using conventional methods. Existing commercial solutions are often too large and expensive, or electrically powered, and are thus not well suited for the volume or nature of USC's food waste. To address these limitations, our team designed a manually operated food waste …

Improving Teacher Expectations For Students With Disabilities, Noah Kullmann Oct 2025

Improving Teacher Expectations For Students With Disabilities, Noah Kullmann

Master's Theses & Capstone Projects

Disability labels for students are indicators that are made known to classroom teachers before the beginning of the year and have the possibility to impact what a teacher might expect from a specific student. The purpose of this study was to better understand how disability labels impact the expectations that teachers have for students, and how providing training to teachers by informing them about the characteristics of a disability or research-based practices to use when teaching students with a specific disability impacts their initial expectations. The researcher administered five different surveys to a group of 31 high school and middle …

Publications and Research

This study aims to validate and evaluate satellite remote sensing observations from the Landsat series over 135 lakes in the Adirondack State Park, located in upstate New York, and to examine their surface temperature trends over the past 40 years. It utilizes data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), along with Landsat 5 and 7. Park-scale results were derived by extracting MODIS surface temperatures within the park boundary, while lake-scale results were estimated using Landsat 5 (1984-2012) and Landsat 7 (1999-2023) observations. In addition, field observations were utilized to perform a comprehensive validation and evaluation of satellite-based surface temperature …

The Protection Illusion: Sexual Harassment Policies And Low-Wage Workers, Sherley Cruz

Denver Law Review

“To be heard as complaining is not to be heard. To hear someone as complaining is an effective way of dismissing someone. You do not have to listen to the content of what she is saying if she is just complaining . . . .” –Sara Ahmed, Complaint! This Article reveals how workplace sexual harassment policies may appear legally compliant but actually create significant barriers to reporting. The non-reporting of harassment eviscerates the protections the policies are supposed to provide employees by creating a loophole for employers to escape liability. A critical review of these policies under procedural and testimonial …

Examining Choices Of Sarcastic Responses In Dialogue With Virtual Interlocutors, Samantha Langley Oct 2025

Examining Choices Of Sarcastic Responses In Dialogue With Virtual Interlocutors, Samantha Langley

Theses and Dissertations

We report the results from three experiments examining people’s preferences for using sarcasm in conversation as a function of: 1. whether their interlocutor uses sarcasm during the conversation; 2. Their knowledge about whether the interlocutor has used sarcasm in a previous conversation; 3. The presence of prosodical and visual cues for interlocutors’ sarcasm. In each experiment, participants took part in two conversations, and we manipulated whether the interlocutors were sincere or sarcastic and whether they remained the same or changed from one conversation to the next. Experiment one used written conversations and experiment two and three used pre-recorded video clips …
