Occupational Therapy For Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder: An Educational Video Series, Habiba Ali, Steven M. Gerardi
Fall 2025 OTD Capstone Symposium
Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder (FNSD) is a complex condition that significantly disrupts occupational performance, identity, and participation. Despite the important role occupational therapy plays in addressing these challenges, many practitioners report uncertainty about how to apply occupation-based models- particularly the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO)- to guide treatment. This capstone project developed a seven-part educational video series to increase practitioner confidence and provide clear, evidence-informed strategies for assessment, intervention planning, and client-centered reasoning. Videos cover essential topics such as OT’s role in FNSD, psychosocial contributors, brain–body connections, functional retraining, and adapting interventions across settings. Hosted on YouTube for accessible dissemination, …

Enhancing Quality Of Life In Adults In Long-Term Care Through Work-Related Peer-Led Learning, Geraldine Esparza, Rebecca King Otd
Fall 2025 OTD Capstone Symposium
Younger adults residing in long-term care (LTC) institutions face numerous challenges related to identity, engagement, social interactions, mental health, and overall quality of life. This doctoral capstone project developed and implemented a peer-led, work-related intervention program designed to promote mental health, enhance occupational engagement, and improve the quality of life for younger adults residing in long-term care facilities. A 14-week program, comprising an occupational profile, needs assessment, role selection, and two trials of peer-led meaningful work activities, was completed by five participants, aged 29 to 63. The Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) served as the foundation for a qualitative program …

Department of Jefferson Headache Center Papers and Presentations
BackgroundThis systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized migraine-related disability outcomes according to headache frequency subclassifications, including low-frequency episodic migraine (LFEM), high-frequency episodic migraine (HFEM) and chronic migraine (CM).MethodsWe searched the PubMed and Cochrane Library (CENTRAL) up to 16 October 2024 for peer-reviewed non-interventional studies reporting migraine-related disability outcomes in CM and subclassifications of episodic migraine (e.g. LFEM and HFEM). Eligible studies with an HFEM subgroup were grouped by headache frequency measure (monthly migraine days [MMD] or monthly headache days [MHD]), HFEM subgroup, disability parameter and study setting. Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted on groups with three or more studies, with the results …

“That’S Not My Name”: The Linguistic Violence Of Misnaming Parties In Court Proceedings, Robert S. Chang, Cecily C. Hazelrigg, Linda Cj Lee
“That’S Not My Name”: The Linguistic Violence Of Misnaming Parties In Court Proceedings, Robert S. Chang, Cecily C. Hazelrigg, Linda Cj Lee
Washington Law Review
This Article calls attention to the harms done when parties are misnamed in legal proceedings. Misnaming, which many might initially consider trivial, is properly understood as a form of linguistic violence that can inflict dignitary harms as well as have material consequences. Misnaming takes on a different valence when it is done by the state. This Article focuses on the misnaming of Indigenous, Asian, and Latine people, beginning first with the way misnaming is done by the administrative state. The authors then discuss misnaming as it has operated in legal proceedings, providing both historical and contemporary examples from federal and …
A State Constitutional Challenge To Washington’S Denial Of Minimum Wage To Incarcerated Workers, Cailin Dahlin
A State Constitutional Challenge To Washington’S Denial Of Minimum Wage To Incarcerated Workers, Cailin Dahlin
Washington Law Review
This Comment challenges as unconstitutional Washington’s exemption of incarcerated individuals from the state Minimum Wage Act. Incarcerated people in Washington, unprotected by minimum wage guarantees, earn low wages in state-run inmate work programs. This statutory carveout is contrary to the rehabilitative purpose of Washington’s prisons because it impedes incarcerated people’s ability to afford necessities, participate in rehabilitative programs, and reintegrate into society. This exemption is unconstitutional under the state’s cruel punishment clause, because it is disproportionately cruel punishment and an excessive fine that incarcerated workers cannot afford. The exemption is also unconstitutional under the state’s privileges and immunities clause, because …
Availability Of Esg Rating Information And Voluntary Esg Disclosure: Evidence From Coverage Expansion Of Esg Rating Agency, Xuefan Peng
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
I examine the effect of availability of ESG rating information on firms’ voluntary ESG disclosure practices. Thomson Reuters Asset4 expanded ESG rating coverage from Russell 1000 index to Russell 2000 index in 2017. Exploiting this exogenous shock of availability of ESG rating information in a difference-in-difference research design, I find that compared with Russell 1000 firms (i.e., control firms), Russell 2000 firms (i.e., treatment firms) are less likely to increase voluntary ESG disclosures. The effect is more pronounced for firms with higher disclosure costs, captured by higher level of firm complexity and lower level of digitalization, and less pronounced for …

Stochastic Modeling Of Electromagnetic Wave Propagation Through Extreme Dust Conditions In Underground Mines Using Vector Parabolic Approach, Emmanuel Atta Antwi, Samuel Frimpong, Muhammad Azeem Raza, Sanjay Madria
Mining Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Post-disaster underground (UG) mine environments are characterized by complex and rapidly changing conditions, adding extra attenuation to propagating electromagnetic (EM) waves. One such complex condition is the extreme generation of dust and sudden rise in humidity contributing to extra attenuation effects to propagating waves, especially under varying airborne humidity and dust levels. The existing wave propagation prediction models, especially those that factor in the effect of dust particles, are deterministic in nature, limiting their ability to account for uncertainties, especially during emergency conditions. In this work, the vector parabolic equation (VPE) model is modified to include dust attenuation effects. Using …

INTRODUCTION: Unmanaged pain in preterm infants can lead to long-term developmental consequences. Current pain assessment methods lack specificity, resulting in possible pain mismanagement in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). This study explores the application of machine learning (ML) to differentiate between pain-related and non-pain-related cortical activity in preterm infants. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the performance of ML models in distinguishing cortical EEG activity during a painful procedure in preterm infants across different postmenstrual ages (PMAs). METHODS: This observational study was conducted from June 2015 to May 2024 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada, and University College London Hospital, United Kingdom. …

Tensions, Funding, And Sustainability: Young Feminist Organizing’S Relations With Donors And Key Stakeholders, Anel Bobadilla, Paulina Márquez, Esperanza Basurto, Natalia Tenorio, Sonia Cruz, Ricardo Regules
Adolescents and Young People
Although young feminist women are an important part of the feminist movement in Mexico, there is very little information written from their perspective about their relationship with larger organizations, foundations, and national and international donor organizations, and with key actors at the institutional level, as shown by the results of the Rapid Evidence Assessment on the panorama and impact of young feminist organizing in Mexico.
This brief highlights the complexity of the relationships between young feminist organizations (YFOs) and collectives in Mexico and foundations and donor organizations as well as government institutions, while recognizing good practices. We analyze and synthesize …
Legal Models For Public-Private City Greening Partnerships, Daniel J. Metzger
Legal Models For Public-Private City Greening Partnerships, Daniel J. Metzger
Sabin Center for Climate Change Law
Cities are significantly hotter than their surrounding areas. That difference, known as the “urban heat island” effect, is driven in significant part by the dark-colored buildings, sidewalks, roadways, and similar surfaces that dominate urban spaces, absorbing solar energy and later radiating it outward as thermal energy that heats the nearby air. This Comment suggests and describes one avenue through which cities and local community-based organizations (CBOs) could tackle extreme heat: partnering with one another to transform paved surfaces into green or reflective ones. Partnerships of this kind could combine the resources and desire to create green spaces that nongovernmental groups …

Objective: To describe a replicable model for a large-scale, cross-institutional, and student-driven initiative to promote gender equity within surgical fields.
Methods: To address the lack of a national infrastructure to support female medical students pursuing careers in Urology, a historically male-dominated specialty, the society of women in urology (SWIU) established its medical student section, called SWIUdents, as a student-led initiative to offer mentorship, education, and networking resources for future female urologists. In 2022, SWIUdents convened its first medical student leadership board, comprised of two co-chairs and four subcommittees focused on membership, program implementation, mentorship, and community relations. SWIUdents membership was …

Rats With Wings: The Villainization Of The Pigeon And Its Portrayal In Modern Art And Literature, Emily Dutton
Rats With Wings: The Villainization Of The Pigeon And Its Portrayal In Modern Art And Literature, Emily Dutton
Honors Theses
For millennia, humans have had an increasingly intimate relationship with pigeons. These birds have been called a wide range of names and served a myriad of purposes alongside their human handlers; however, since the populations of feral rock pigeons have increased in American cities, the general public has ascribed a negative connotation to the pigeons that they were once closely associated with. The increasing populations of pigeons along with their decreasing perceived usefulness to humanity has led to a sharp decline in their image. This thesis aims to examine how the pigeon became so loathed after it was coveted for …

Gender And Party Polarization In The Us Congress: Hypervisibility And Invisibility, Rosalyn Cooperman
Gender And Party Polarization In The Us Congress: Hypervisibility And Invisibility, Rosalyn Cooperman
Political Science & International Affairs Articles
The history and practice of party polarization in Congress is a gendered concept. Men have comprised the overwhelming majority of legislators from both parties, served as their party’s leaders, and dominated the party caucuses. As women and women of color have increased their presence in the institution, particularly among Democrats, gender and race have emerged as important themes in understanding party polarization in contemporary congresses. In an analysis of legislative activity of members in the 104th to the 117th Congresses, I find the two most distinct groups of partisans, Democratic women and Republican men, are prominently featured in the opposing …
