Problematic Smartphone Use Experiences Of Students, Gbolahan Olasina
The African Journal of Information Systems
Smartphones extend people's opportunities by improving their daily living and well-being. Hence, given the tool’s features and affordances that promote human development, smartphones facilitate the achievement of the individual liberties and freedoms of ordinary people. However, there are serious concerns about the emotional, social and cultural factors underlying smartphone usage patterns and their association with problematic use and depressive behaviors. Therefore, the overriding goal of the research reported on in this paper was to investigate how smartphone use influences individuals’ emotional wellness, interpersonal relationships and sociocultural contexts. Existing academic literature indicated that there was a need to investigate the intricate …

Sustainable Practices In The Restaurant Industry: Review 2020-2025, Joel Reynolds
ICHRIE Research Reports
This review examines sustainability practices in the restaurant industry from 2020-2025, analyzing environmental, social, economic, and technological dimensions. Using a rigorous methodology including comprehensive database searches and thematic synthesis, we identified significant fragmentation across research streams and persistent gaps between theoretical frameworks and practical implementation. Our analysis reveals how contextual factors—including geographical location and restaurant segment—significantly influence sustainability approaches, challenging universal prescriptions. The review highlights critical methodological limitations in current research, particularly regarding measurement approaches, system boundaries, and ethical considerations of technological innovations. These findings provide a foundation for developing more integrated, context-sensitive sustainability frameworks for both researchers and practitioners.

Are We Truly Diverse: Investigating The Diversity In Hospitality And Tourism Faculty Within The United States, Michael D. Caligiuri, Abigail Foster, Phillip M. Jolly, Miranda Kitterlin
ICHRIE Research Reports
Both practice and research within the hospitality and tourism field have grown increasingly concerned with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Yet while a significant and growing body of research has looked into the drivers and effects of representation in the workplace, very little has investigated the state of diversity in hospitality and tourism faculties. This is a serious oversight, as faculty diversity has been linked to a number of individual, organizational, and societal benefits. Drawing on an in-depth investigation of the racial/ethnic and gender makeup of 57 hospitality and tourism programs in the United States, our results indicate …

When Logics Collide: How Private Firms In Ghana Can Manage The Relationship Between Commercial And Employee Logics To Help Drive Organizational Excellence, Gillian R. Hammah
Engaged Management ReView
This study investigates the dynamic relationship between commercial and employee logics in the context of Ghanaian private sector organizations striving for excellence. The research acknowledges the unique geographical context’s influence on institutional logics and aims to contribute an additional dimension to the institutional logics perspective. Ghanaian organizations, like many across Africa, struggle to effectively manage the divergent and potentially conflicting demands between the firm’s commercial goals (commercial logic) and employee interests (employee logic) in pursuit of organizational excellence. However, when they are addressed together (as complementary logics), these logics serve as key drivers of organizational excellence. This study employs a …

Exploring The Experience Of Nursing Students During Their Community Health Nursing Clinical Placement At Schools, Lina Ghosn Nouwayhed
Dissertations
Community health nursing is an exciting, challenging, and evolving field that creatively integrates various areas of nursing practice with public health knowledge (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2016). Learning in practical settings is invaluable for student nurses; that is why clinical placements account for 50% of nursing curriculum requirements (Henderson, 2011). At Makassed University of Beirut, the community nursing practicum takes place in schools, with school nurses serving as mentors during these placements.
This research study aims to:
- Explore the experiences of student nurses during community clinical practice.
- Develop guidelines to enhance learning during community clinical practice.
The study sample consisted of …

Journal of Health Research
Background: This study examines the social construction of sexual orientation among adolescents, particularly non-heterosexual, in Daerah Khusus Ibukota (DKI) Jakarta, Indonesia. Currently, non-heterosexual adolescents tend to recognize their sexual attraction earlier than previous generations.
Methods: A mixed methods approach was used. We conducted in-depth interviews with foundations focused on HIV/AIDS management and groups with non-heterosexual orientations. For the quantitative portion, 267 adolescents (89 non-heterosexual and 178 heterosexual) completed a validated questionnaire. We conducted univariate and bivariate analyses examining gender distribution as well as the association between social construction factors and the formation of sexual orientation.
Results: Logistic regression identified key …

Epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation, modulate behavioral traits, including impulsivity and reward sensitivity. The dopamine transporter gene (DAT1) plays a key role in dopaminergic function and is associated with self-regulation, attention, and the trait of addiction. This study summarized the DAT1 methylation status in patients practicing combat sports and its association with impulsivity, ADHD symptoms, and consequence sensitivity. One hundred control subjects were recruited using the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS), the ADHD scale, and the Opportunity Response Scale. DAT1 methylation was measured using the bisulfite ionization method. A correlation analysis was performed with the comparison group. Athletes …

Giving Locally Or Globally? How The Destination Of Corporate Charitable Donations Shapes Consumer Brand Preferences, Ohjin Kwon, Young Jee Han, Hakkyun Kim
Asia Marketing Journal
We investigate how the geographic destination of charitable corporate donations influences brand preferences. We predict and find that consumers demonstrate a stronger preference for brands that engage in domestic donations as opposed to those that contribute to foreign causes. Additionally, we find that the preference for domestic donations is more pronounced among consumers exhibiting higher levels of nationalism and lower levels of residential mobility. Our research findings offer managerial implications for tailoring CSR strategies to resonate with specific consumer segments. We provide insights for companies aiming to optimize the impact of their philanthropic endeavors.

Hedonic And Utilitarian Products For The 21St Century: Classification Of Modern Product Categories, Jin-A Choi, Sufyan M. Baksh, Hyuk Jun Cheong
Asia Marketing Journal
Consumer purchasing behavior varies according to the type of product being considered. Notably, these behavioral differences become more salient depending on whether a product fulfills a utilitarian function or offers hedonic gratification. The present study aims to develop a novel product classification model that categorizes contemporary goods and services based on the extent to which they possess hedonic or utilitarian value. Methodologically, the study employed a two-stage approach. In the first stage, to identify appropriate products for inclusion in the classification model, the researchers conducted focus group interviews, a comprehensive literature review, and an analysis of major retailers’ websites. This course introduces students to the historical development and emergence of the human rights movement, particularly following World War II and during the consolidating period of the 1970s. This period is often labeled the golden decade of human rights, as the movement that commenced at the end of World War II was consolidated through the adoption of two crucial international instruments. Furthermore, human rights advocacy, which works through victims’ testimony and evidence-based reporting on violations, began to take center stage, departing from the basic rules of humanitarian engagement that include impartiality, neutrality, and independence.
With four interrelated parts, the course …

Diplomacy Syllabi
For seven decades following the conclusion of the Second World War the portion of global GDP accounted for by international trade grew almost continuously, a phenomenon which we today call globalization. In our current moment, however, with the return of tariffs, trade wars and great-power competition, globalization has stalled and even threatens to reverse. This serves as a reminder that despite increasing connectivity our modern world is still divided into territorial nation-states, each of which possesses great power in shaping its economic interactions with the rest of the globe. This means that any understanding of the global economy must consider …

Getting Our House In Order: Mapping The Unconstitutional Conditions Doctrine Onto Washington’S Inclusionary Zoning Policies After Sheetz V. County Of El Dorado, John “Jack” Haskins
Washington Law Review
The unconstitutional conditions doctrine dictates what a government can and cannot do when exercising its police powers to promote community interests. Recent Supreme Court jurisprudence highlights a special application of the doctrine in the land use context, with Sheetz v. County of El Dorado recognizing constitutional scrutiny of legislative decisions. After decades of using its own analysis, Washington courts now use the federal approach in these cases. Land use exists at the forefront of Washington policies and the state maintains a sharp focus on the affordable housing crisis. One approach enacted at the local and state level is mandatory inclusionary …

Attentive Listening And Confirmation Key Aspects In Health Promotion Encounters With Patients In Telephone Counselling, Margaretha Larsson, Catharina Gillsjö, Anna Sundberg, Maria Zakrisson, Irene Eriksson
College of Nursing Faculty Publications
Introduction: Health-promoting telephone counselling is a growing but underexplored area of nursing, where district nurses (telenurses) play a key role in supporting patients' health and autonomy without physical presence. While this form of care is widespread, time constraints, emotional strain, and system limitations may challenge telenurses' ability to create meaningful, person-centred encounters. Gaining insight into how telenurses experience health-promoting interactions is essential for improving care quality and support systems. This study contributes new knowledge by exploring the lived experiences of telenurses in such encounters, offering perspectives that can inform education, policy, and practice development. Aim: The study aim was to …
