Democratic Economic Planning From And For Social Reproduction: Foundations For A Postcapitalist Research Agenda, Sophie Elias-Pinsonnault, Bengi Akbulut, Audrey Laurin-Lamothe Jul 2026

Democratic Economic Planning From And For Social Reproduction: Foundations For A Postcapitalist Research Agenda, Sophie Elias-Pinsonnault, Bengi Akbulut, Audrey Laurin-Lamothe

Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis

As ecological and social crises render the transformation of capitalist economic organization increasingly urgent, the resurgence of interest in democratic economic planning confronts a foundational blind spot: the systematic neglect of social reproduction. This paper argues that any genuinely needs-based planned economy must extend its scope beyond formally recognized productive activities to encompass the full spectrum of reproductive labor through which human and non-human life is sustained and regenerated. Drawing on feminist political economy and the Marxist-feminist tradition, the authors argue that meeting needs requires more than reorganizing production: it demands confronting the question of who does reproductive work, at …

Learning (Non-)Planning From Yugoslav Socialism, Annette Freyberg-Inan, Tim Platenkamp Jul 2026

Learning (Non-)Planning From Yugoslav Socialism, Annette Freyberg-Inan, Tim Platenkamp

Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis

The advancement of democratic economic planning theory depends crucially on improving our understanding of how technically feasible planning methods and instruments can be embedded in institutionally viable incentive structures, developing a coherent incentive-compatible as well as feasible planning procedure. Our contribution draws lessons for democratic economic planning from the historical experience with Yugoslav socialism, and especially its post-Stalinist, “contractual” phase. From the mid 1970s onwards, workers in Yugoslavia were empowered to plan their activities from the ground upward. Intended to re-energize worker participation in the construction of socialism, this experiment with economic planning from below provides useful insights for the …

From Models To Modules: Towards A Change Of Approach In Postcapitalist Political Economy, Simon Tremblay-Pepin Jul 2026

From Models To Modules: Towards A Change Of Approach In Postcapitalist Political Economy, Simon Tremblay-Pepin

Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis

In this article, I take for granted the existence of a field of social sciences called postcapitalist political economy. This field of research emanates from the critique of capitalism and seeks to establish, in theory and practice, alternative political and economic systems to capitalism. I argue that in its late and post-Soviet period (1988 – 2012), this field has mostly, but not solely, been based on debates between all-encompassing models. Analyzing its contemporary period (2013 to now), I will sustain that we are partly witnessing a transfer from a model-based approach to a modular one. I present six arguments to …

Economic Analysis Of Publicity Rights In The Machine Learning Age: The Need For A Federal Statute Protecting The Non-Famous, Alyssa J. Devine

Florida Entertainment and Sports Law Review

The 1970s were a period of rapid change. Personal computers were conceived, Walt Disney World opened to the public, the first magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan was published, Elvis Presley performed the first worldwide concert broadcast live by satellite, and your only child was born. Your son was born with hemophilia, a disease that prevents his blood from clotting. He required regular infusions, one of which gave him acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). His peers and his community immediately shunned him. You helped him fight fear-based discrimination in your community and in the world. Together, you made an impactful difference, but …

An adaptive guidance system delivers real-time, on-demand, and post-exposure feedback through vocal and visual …

Quantum Entanglement Service Assurance And Intent Orchestration For Heterogeneous Quantum Networks, Bharat Kumar Putta Jul 2026

Quantum Entanglement Service Assurance And Intent Orchestration For Heterogeneous Quantum Networks, Bharat Kumar Putta

Defensive Publications Series

Proposed herein are techniques to turn a heterogeneous quantum network into a controller-managed, intent-driven entanglement service that can support delivery of entanglement between quantum endpoints under specified statistical service objectives. A controller can compile quantum service requests into modality-aware paths, generate a time-bounded and evidence-based readiness assessment without measuring application qubits or entangled pairs allocated to the protected service, infer degradation risk from classical telemetry and quantum-derived observations obtained through protocol-required heralding measurements or measurements of separate calibration or test resources, and apply policy-bounded remediation to subsequent service attempts. Because entanglement generation and quality estimation are probabilistic, the assessment provides …

Quantum Job Placement And Circuit Partitioning With Network-Aware Error Budget Brokerage, Bharat Kumar Putta Jul 2026

Quantum Job Placement And Circuit Partitioning With Network-Aware Error Budget Brokerage, Bharat Kumar Putta

Defensive Publications Series

Proposed herein is a system including a distributed quantum compiler and controller that can decide where to place quantum circuit fragments by brokering a live error budget across quantum processing unit (QPU) compute operations, quantum memory wait time, remote entanglement, measurement, and classical-control latency. Instead of only minimizing circuit cuts, queue time, or network cost, the system creates an auditable Error Budget Contract and Placement Proof showing why a distributed execution plan is expected to satisfy a job’s end-to-end accuracy target. If QPU calibration, queue depth, or quantum-network fidelity changes, the system can automatically re-evaluate the plan and, where execution …

Fixture-Resolved Water Monitoring And Leak Localization Via Transmission-Line Modeling And Active Time-Domain Reflectometry Of Residential Plumbing, Calvin Rose Jul 2026

Fixture-Resolved Water Monitoring And Leak Localization Via Transmission-Line Modeling And Active Time-Domain Reflectometry Of Residential Plumbing, Calvin Rose

Defensive Publications Series

We describe a method for inferring, from a single instrumented point on a dwelling’s main water supply, (i) which plumbing fixture is drawing water and (ii) the presence and physical location of leaks. The dwelling’s pipe network is modeled as a branched acoustic transmission line: pressure and volumetric flow play the roles of voltage and current, the distributed inertance and compliance of the water-filled pipe set a characteristic impedance and wave speed, viscous friction sets the attenuation, and a leak appears as a shunt admittance to a pressure sink at a specific location. Each fixture terminates a branch of distinct …

Non-Custodial Ephemeral Compute Architecture For Privacy-Preserving Analysis Of Personal Data, Mary F. Camacho Jul 2026

Non-Custodial Ephemeral Compute Architecture For Privacy-Preserving Analysis Of Personal Data, Mary F. Camacho

Defensive Publications Series

A non-custodial, ephemeral compute architecture enables privacy-preserving analysis of personal data by an operator that, by construction and not by policy, contract, or trust, holds no persistent key material capable of decrypting the data it processes. The architecture lets an application separate two kinds of personal data that are usually conflated. Contact data is the identifying and reach information an application legitimately needs to hold (name, email, account and billing identifiers: who someone is and how to reach them). Confided data is the substantive information a person reveals about themselves: their body, mind, behavior, and life. The architecture processes the …

Enhancing Surgical Team Readiness: Simulation Training For Power Failure Response In Robotic Procedures, Heather Marie Sorton Jul 2026

Enhancing Surgical Team Readiness: Simulation Training For Power Failure Response In Robotic Procedures, Heather Marie Sorton

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

In this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project, I used a quality improvement design to implement and evaluate a simulation-based education aimed at improving perioperative staff knowledge related to robotic power-loss events. A practice gap was identified in staff preparedness for robotic system failures due to limited education on emergency protocols, communication, team roles, and Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN)-aligned response processes, impacting patient safety during robotic-assisted procedures. I examined whether implementation of a simulation-based educational intervention improved staff knowledge related to robotic power-loss management. The purpose of the project was to improve staff knowledge and standardize responses to …

There is growing interest in the use of multi-component Tier 2 preventive interventions to help address youth behavior problems in schools, yet parent and youth attendance at sessions can be suboptimal, and, if not optimized, can compromise outcomes. The current study explored baseline predictors of parent and youth attendance at the school-based Early Adolescent Coping Power (EACP) program, a preventive intervention for middle schoolers with externalizing problems. Data come from the 375 seventh graders (62% male, 72% Black) who were in the 20 middle schools randomized to receive the EACP intervention and their parents. We identified two latent profiles of …

Interpretable Case-Control Inference Through Log-Linear General Location Models, Zacharia Stuart Jul 2026

Interpretable Case-Control Inference Through Log-Linear General Location Models, Zacharia Stuart

Mathematics & Statistics ETDs

This dissertation analyzes one of the few publicly available NFL injury datasets to study field type and non-contact lower-limb injuries. Field type is studied jointly with other risk factors to understand how these factors interact to affect injury risk. The data were gathered through a case-control sampling scheme, which limits direct inference on absolute injury probabilities. While not the most common approach for case-control data, this dissertation models the retrospective distribution directly through Log-Linear General Location Models (Log-Linear GLOMs). Through a log-linear structure placed on a log-odds-ratio reparameterization, the model provides directly interpretable marginal and interaction contributions to injury log-odds …

PCOM Scholarly Works

Cancer therapy-related cognitive impairment (CTRCI) is a debilitating neurotoxic condition adversely impacting cancer patients during and post-cancer treatments. The cancer treatments linked to CTRCI include chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Despite CTRCI severely affecting the psychological and social, cognitive functions, and the overall quality of life of cancer survivors, no effective medications are available currently. Our prior studies have indicated hippocampal tyrosine phosphatase protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type O (PTPRO) as a putative target for CTRCI. However, phosphatase is historically considered undruggable, and delivering drugs across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is challenging. Here, we developed a novel delivery …

Improving Outpatient Provider Preparedness Through Simulation-Based Training: A Quality Improvement Project, Kristina Weyer Jul 2026

Improving Outpatient Provider Preparedness Through Simulation-Based Training: A Quality Improvement Project, Kristina Weyer

DNP Projects

Introduction:
Simulation-based training is an effective educational strategy, particularly for high-acuity, low-frequency events such as patient decompensation in outpatient settings. However, there is a gap in both literature and practice regarding provider participation in simulation, as competing clinical demands often limit engagement. Local organizational leaders identified limited opportunities for outpatient providers to practice management of acute decompensating patients. The purpose of this project was to evaluate provider competence and confidence in managing a decompensating patient in the outpatient setting and to assess perceptions of the value of time spent in simulation.

Methods:
This quality improvement project evaluated providers who participated …

Benefits Of Regional Anesthesia Versus Opioids In The Management Of Postoperative Pain Following Excision Of A Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor., Duveen Nalamothu, Mauricio Arce Villalobos, Joseph D Tobias

Ambulatory and Primary Care Articles

Postoperative opioid exposure in opioid-naive patients may carry a risk of persistent opioid use. We present the case of a 16-year-old female with no significant family history who was recently diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1 and found to have a rapidly enlarging mass in her left upper extremity. She was scheduled for excisional biopsy. To minimize the need for postoperative opioids, analgesia via a continuous peripheral nerve catheter was employed following resection of the malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor. This case report reviews the clinical applications of multimodal analgesia via a continuous peripheral nerve catheter in pediatric patients, including placement …

Genocide In Gaza? Social Media Discussions Of Violence In Israel And Gaza, Timothy Williams, Andreas Dafnos Jul 2026

Genocide In Gaza? Social Media Discussions Of Violence In Israel And Gaza, Timothy Williams, Andreas Dafnos

Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal

This article conducts social network and topic analyses of German-language posts on X that discuss genocide and terrorism in Israel and Gaza in the first six months after the October 7 attacks and compares these to broader English-language discourses on the platform. The comparison reveals subtle differences in how Israeli violence and governance and Palestinians are discussed and who is seen as complicit in supporting violence. Markedly, German-language posts discuss what constitutes antisemitism more and employ a more restrained language towards Israel as a state and its political actors than English-language posts. We tie these findings back to the idiosyncrasies …

Genocidal Criminology: My Testimony, Yarin Eski Jul 2026

Genocidal Criminology: My Testimony, Yarin Eski

Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal

This article is a testimony on the entanglement of my personal biography, responsibility, and lived experience of genocide denial and, subsequently, developing criminologies of genocide and its denial, based on my formative experiences, ranging from encountering Armenian genocide denial as a student, to dealing with institutional constraints and careerism, to my academic activism, raising awareness about the Gaza genocide, to, finally, prospecting genocide and ecocide in outer space: astrocide. These experiences configure a genealogy of what I term genocidal criminology that unpacks and criticizes criminological knowledge, institutions, and practices that produce genocide (denial), both epistemically and structurally. Essentially, I argue …

Bridging The Gap: Empowering Primary Care Providers With Nonpharmalogical Strategies For Adhd Management, Grace Sawyer

DNP Projects

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects many adults and children and is commonly managed with pharmaceutical drugs. Although evidence supports the use of nonpharmacological, many providers may not know or have the confidence to use these modalities to incorporate these into practice. This educational gap could contribute to an overreliance on medication when there are other options available for comprehensive ADHD care.  This quality improvement pretest-posttest design aimed to bridge the gap in provider knowledge and confidence regarding evidence-based nonpharmacological ADHD management at two college health clinics.  The intervention consisted of four pre-recorded modules delivered over four weeks that focused on exercise, …
