This case report describes a 30-year-old male patient with extensively treatment-resistant alopecia universalis in the context of autoimmune and atopic comorbidities, including eczema, asthma, severe allergic reactions, and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. The Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors described in this case report are considered treatment failures, defined as the absence of clinically meaningful hair regrowth after at least six months of therapy or discontinuation due to adverse effects. Despite the recent approval of JAK inhibitors for severe alopecia areata, our patient experienced treatment failure with multiple agents and, while on ritlecitinib, developed a debilitating, episodic musculoskeletal pain syndrome. To our knowledge, such …

Effect Of Age On Isth-Bat Scores And Low Vwf Diagnosis In The Zimmerman Program, Ferdows Atiq, Jorge Di Paola, Et Al.
2020-Current year OA Pubs
An essential component of low von Willebrand factor (VWF)/type 1 von Willebrand disease (VWD) diagnosis is to identify patients with an increased bleeding phenotype, as most individuals with VWF levels in the 30 to 50 IU/dL range do not bleed. The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis-bleeding assessment tool (ISTH-BAT), widely used for assessing bleeding severity, has recently been shown to be age dependent. Although age may also influence ISTH-BAT scores in individuals with VWF levels between 30 and 50 IU/dL, and subsequently affect low VWF diagnosis, this relationship has not been investigated. Therefore, we analyzed 325 participants from the …

Rehabilitating the maxilla in the patient who has had surgical resection for mucormycosis poses a distinctive set of anatomical, surgical, and prosthetic challenges. The extensive maxillary bone loss after aggressive debridement often makes traditional implant-supported prosthetic options impossible. In these circumstances, zygomatic implants have proven to be a predictable, graftless solution, especially in patients with extremely atrophic maxillae. Where the bone loss is severe, the quad zygoma procedure—two implants for each zygomatic arch—is possible to support full arch rehabilitation with a fixed prosthesis. This report presents the successful rehabilitation of oral function and appearance in a patient with post-mucormycosis edentulous …

The construction industry is increasingly embracing sustainable materials to mitigate environmental concerns and reduce the carbon footprint of conventional practices. Concrete, a vital material in modern infrastructure, is valued for its versatility and durability. However, Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), the primary binder in conventional concrete, presents significant environmental challenges, including high carbon dioxide emissions and substantial energy consumption. With an annual growth rate of 2.5%, cement production exacerbates these issues, necessitating sustainable alternatives. Ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS), a byproduct of the iron industry, is a promising supplementary material. Its use reduces cement consumption, enhances sustainability, and promotes eco-friendly construction …

Advancing Monitoring And Self-Sensing Capabilities Of Smart Asphalt Concrete Containing Conductive Carbon Nanofillers, Mingjun Xie, Leqing Lin, Yilin Yin, Linglin Xu, Kai Wu, Zhengwu Jiang
International Conference on Durability of Concrete Structures
Conventional asphalt pavements can withstand the traffic loading and provide safe, comfortable driving conditions, however, the intelligent functionality on self-monitoring and damage detection is also required for the construction of intelligent transport systems. This study develops a self-sensing conductive asphalt concrete inspired by smart cement-based materials, which is capable of continuous, real-time monitoring of stress, strain, and damage, enabling structural health monitoring (SHM) of asphalt pavements. The self-sensing characteristics relies on the piezoresistive effects that the internal conductive network deforms and causes measurable changes in electrical resistance under mechanical loading. To achieve this, carbon nanomaterials, graphene nanoplates (GNPs) and multi-walled …
