Mindful Leadership: How Rural Principals Enact School Mindfulness Through Care And Social-Emotional Learning, Jesse Wood
The Rural Educator
This qualitative research study explored how rural secondary principals in Tennessee made sense of the practice of school mindfulness and what motivated them to engage in leadership practices that enact mindfulness in this setting. This study draws from the theoretical construct of high reliability theory (HRT) and school mindfulness: focus on failure, reluctance to simplify, sensitivity to teaching and learning, commitment to resilience, and deference to expertise. Three themes emerged: situational awareness, social-emotional learning (SEL), and care. This study extends the extant literature on school mindfulness and highlights leadership practices of care and social-emotional learning that enact school mindfulness in …

Development Of A Ux Effectiveness Evaluation Tool For Mental Health Mobile Applications, Stephanie Caridad Dr. Landicho, Maria Aura Teodora C. Matias
Journal Article
This study developed and validated a comprehensive User Experience (UX) evaluation tool specifically designed for mental health mobile applications. User experience plays a critical role in sustaining engagement and effectiveness in digital mental health interventions, yet existing evaluation tools are not tailored to the unique challenges of this domain. Through a multi-phase process, the research identified 12 key domains for evaluation and developed an initial 48-item instrument, which was refined through expert panel review for face and content validity, resulting in 50 items. Pilot testing with 19 participants demonstrated strong internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.972). Full-scale testing involved 205 …

Agility Evaluation On The Small Value Item Procurement Process Of The Department Of Education Division Of Davao Del Sur, Philippines, Save Mart E. Mondejar, Haerold Dean Z. Layaoen, Gabriel John L. De Leon, Julius Angelo D.J. Galang
Journal Article
Public procurement in the Philippines is primarily guided by Republic Act 9184 or the Government Procurement Act. In the Department of Education Division of Davao del Sur (DepEd Davao del Sur), procurement can be classified under big and small value item procurement. However, small value item procurement (SVP) projects in DepEd Davao del Sur experienced persistent delays in 2021 and 2022. In addition, gaps in the documentation and archiving system constrained the availability of reliable procurement data. To address this, the fuzzy agility evaluation method (FAEM) was utilized within a limited timeframe to determine the level of procurement agility and …

Perceived Courier Service Quality On Online Sellers’ Intentions To Reduce Overpackaging, Freya Jiana T. Arellano, Marc Immanuel G. Isip
Journal Article
This study focused on understanding the intentions of Filipino online sellers to reduce overpackaging, recognizing their pivotal role in addressing packaging waste. Specifically, the study employed Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and extended it by integrating Perceived Courier Service Quality (PCSQ) to explain Filipino online sellers’ intentions to reduce overpackaging. Additionally, the study examined the mediating role of TPB constructs in the relationship between PCSQ and these intentions. Quantitative data collected from 182 Filipino online sellers revealed positive intentions among these sellers to reduce overpackaging. Results from the Partial Least Squares – Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) identified Attitude and …

I, Me, And My-Opia, Michael Saba
Journal of the Macomb Dental Society
Personal experiences often serve as catalysts for broader insights into human behavior and perspective. This narrative explores the metaphor of myopia—both clinical and figurative—as a lens through which to examine selfishness, shortsightedness, and the pursuit of instant gratification. An eye examination revealed not only a physical diagnosis of nearsightedness but also prompted recognition of a narrowed, self-centered outlook that contributed to stress and disconnection in personal and professional life. Drawing parallels between optical myopia and psychological or behavioral myopia, the reflection highlights how short-term focus can undermine long-term fulfillment and even foster destructive patterns such as addiction. The discussion emphasizes …

Journal of the Macomb Dental Society
Membership value within professional dental organizations remains a critical issue as local and state societies face declining market shares, often below 40 percent. In contrast, the Macomb Dental Society currently maintains a market share of approximately 63 percent, underscoring both its relative strength and the need for continued innovation. Historically, membership was driven by professional obligation; however, newer dentists, burdened by financial pressures, are less likely to renew without clear demonstration of tangible benefits. To address this challenge, the Macomb Dental Society has explored initiatives that enhance member engagement, including leveraging existing study clubs as a conduit for continuing education …

Perceived Value Of Undergraduate Academic And Experiential Learning In Nonprofit And For-Profit Sector Hiring Decisions, Jack Gault, Steve Bok, Evan Leach
Marketing Faculty Publications
Rising tuition costs and growing scrutiny of higher education outcomes have renewed debate about the value of traditional subject-centered curricula. Employers increasingly demand graduates possessing transferable skills and applied experience, yet limited empirical research has compared how nonprofit and for-profit hiring managers evaluate different forms of student engagement. This study addresses that gap by surveying over 400 U.S. hiring managers who assessed 34 activities spanning academic achievement, work-integrated learning (WIL), and extracurricular/co-curricular involvement. Results show that while academic performance remains important, both for-profit and nonprofit employers are placing increased emphasis on competencies developed through applied and integrative learning. Importantly, nonprofit …

Gut Bacterial Dysbiosis In Pediatric Severe Malaria Associates With Post-Discharge Mortality, Olivia Bednarski, Sawyer Lehman, David Mzinza, Caroline Kazinga, Ruth Namazzi, Robert Opoka, Jie Ren, Tuan Tran, Terrie Taylor, Karl Seydel
Paediatrics and Child Health, East Africa
Gut microbiota have been implicated in severe malaria in murine models, but their contribution to the pathogenesis of severe malaria in children is unknown. Here we show through analysis of gut bacteria in stool samples from two separate African studies enrolling children with severe malaria, and children from local communities, that children with severe malaria have gut bacteria dysbiosis. Among children with severe malaria, there is increased abundance of Enterobacteriaceae that associates with multiple clinical complications of severe malaria. Moreover, increased abundance of Escherichia coli was a predictor of post-discharge mortality. Metagenome analysis identify elevated metabolic pathways and genes supporting …

In this case, a 67-year-old male experienced a progression of his Parkinson’s disease symptoms following an inpatient hospitalization for pneumonia. He presents to the neurology clinic for follow-up, where the neurology ambulatory care pharmacist was consulted to assist with his case. The pharmacist identified a medication reconciliation discrepancy that resulted in an unintentional change in the dosing frequency of his carbidopa/levodopa. This, combined with the initiation of metoclopramide, a dopamine-receptor antagonist, led to a worsening of his Parkinson’s symptoms. His carbidopa/levodopa dose was titrated back to the previous regimen, metoclopramide was discontinued, and his symptoms significantly improved. This case highlights …

Can Limited Partners Mitigate Negative Externalities In Private Equity?, Teodor Duevski, Chhavi Rastogi, Tianhao Yao
Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics
We show how Limited Partners' (LPs) environmental and social (E&S) concerns transmit to private equity (PE) rms through capital supply. E&S incidents in portfolio companies reduce PE fundraising, as E&S-concerned relationship LPs refrain from recommitting and are not easily substituted. Using a legal reform that expands E&S-concerned public pension capital to PE, we causally show that PE rms internalise LPs' E&S concerns, reducing dirty sector portfolio allocation and increasing ESG hiring. Additionally, PE rms with E&S- concerned relationship LPs engage with portfolio companies to manage E&S risks. Limited capital substitutability enables LPs to delegate E&S preferences, shaping PE allocation and …

Dynamic façades can be used as architectural tools to reduce heat gain in a building. This kinetic design reforms energy efficiency and can improve user comfort. Dynamic façades change their form and appearance in response to the environment. They can reduce stress on heating and cooling systems by mitigating the amount of solar radiation a building receives. Additionally, this architectural approach can control internal heating and cooling loads by managing the intake of sunlight. This study investigates a dynamic façade as an architectural tool to substantially reduce the heat gain of the Engineering Research Building on the campus of The …

Oligarchy, State, And Cryptopia, Julie E. Cohen
Fordham Law Review
Theoretical accounts of power in networked digital environments typically do not give systematic attention to the phenomenon of oligarchy—to extreme concentrations of material wealth deployed to obtain and protect durable personal advantage. The biggest technology platform companies are dominated to a singular extent by a small group of very powerful and extremely wealthy men who have played uniquely influential roles in structuring technological development in particular ways that align with their personal beliefs and who now wield unprecedented informational, sociotechnical, and political power. Developing an account of oligarchy and, more specifically, of tech oligarchy within contemporary political economy therefore has …
