The Effects Of Learning Environment Resources And Psycap On Student Burnout And Outcomes, Elisandra Rodriguez Moreno
The Effects Of Learning Environment Resources And Psycap On Student Burnout And Outcomes, Elisandra Rodriguez Moreno
Dissertations
This study examined links between learning environmental resources (i.e., social support and feedback environment), burnout, and student outcomes (i.e., satisfaction and academic performance) among 198 graduate healthcare students. The study also investigated whether Psychological Capital (PsyCap) moderated these relationships. Social support and feedback did not predict overall burnout, but both were significantly linked to the burnout dimensions, specifically: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and academic efficacy. PsyCap did not moderate most relationships, yet it was consistently associated with lower levels of burnout and higher satisfaction. One exception emerged—for social support and depersonalization, PsyCap served as a compensatory resource, where students with lower …
Integrating Psychotherapy And Medication Management In A Primary Care Clinic, Patricia Nkhono
Integrating Psychotherapy And Medication Management In A Primary Care Clinic, Patricia Nkhono
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A knowledge deficit in integrating supportive psychotherapy with medication management to treat patients’ psychiatric challenges was identified in a primary care clinical setting. I developed a staff education project to close the knowledge gaps of nurses and nurse practitioners related to an evidence-based protocol that incorporated supportive therapy in individualized treatment plans. The project’s aim was to develop, implement, and evaluate the staff education program. The focused project question centered on whether staff education would increase staff knowledge and drive increased supportive therapy orders at admission of patients. Clinical staff registered nurses and nurse practitioners (N = 5) participated in …

Staff Education On Fall Prevention In The Emergency Department, Linda Odoh
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This DNP staff education project was an initiative focused on improving fall-related knowledge among faculty members. The practice problem identified at the local project site was the frequent rate of patient falls. Analysis established the role of staff in the inefficient implementation of best practices and to the staff’s limited knowledge regarding the application of existing fall prevention strategies. The practice-focused question for this project was, In the emergency department setting, how does a fall prevention education program compared to pre-implementation practices, affect staff knowledge of fall prevention strategies within three months? The purpose of the project was to improve …

Half of pregnant women develop insomnia, which increases depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and preterm birth. ~10,0000 live births occur annually at Henry Ford Health (HFH). Although half of pregnant women develop insomnia, only 3% are diagnosed with insomnia disorder. Care access is limited as most health systems do not have clearly identified clinics where prenatal insomnia is managed. Sleep clinics do not often treat pregnant women. Perinatal mental health providers are not often trained in sleep medicine. Prenatal insomnia presents differently from insomnia in the general population. In 2023, HFH implemented the Perinatal Sleep Clinic (PSC), an outpatient telemedicine clinic …

From Knowledge To Prevention: How A Targeted Tip Sheet Slashed Cauti Rates, Samantha Herbert Dnp, Aprn, Accns-Ag, Cmsrn
Nursing Research & Professional Development Conference
Background:
Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) remain among the most prevalent hospital-acquired infections, with considerable implications for both patient outcomes and healthcare costs. Despite established prevention guidelines, variability in adherence across clinical units often results in inconsistent outcomes. At a academic medical center, CAUTI rates continued to exceed national benchmarks, indicating potential gaps in staff knowledge or inconsistent implementation of best practices.
Local Problem:
Between December 2022 and September 2023, the facility recorded 10 CAUTI cases. An internal review highlighted discrepancies in protocol adherence and knowledge levels among staff across units. In response, a targeted intervention was deemed necessary to …

Nursing Research & Professional Development Conference
Background
Workplace Violence (WPV) in healthcare remains a serious concern. Most healthcare workers will experience violence- physical acts, verbal intimidation, or threatening statements by patients/families. AHNTMC has a large Emergency Center (EC), receiving over 50,000 visits annually. Some patients exhibit violent tendencies, which may stem from traumatic brain injuries, psychiatric disorders or other medical problems. Like other hospitals, under-reporting by registered nurses (RNs) is an issue.
Local Problem
Despite having many of the evidence-based practice (EBP) requirements such as education, officers on site and panic buttons, our EC RN, WPV rate/1000 patients ranged from 3.67 to 4.80/1000 patient visits. Teammate …

Background: Unscheduled post operative admissions to the pediatric intensive care unit strain hospital resources due to the inability to plan for staffing, services, supplies, and bed availability. Understanding trends in these admissions is critical to improving efficiency, timeliness and quality of care. Unscheduled cardiovascular admissions are associated with longer length of stay and increased mortality. Additionally, among unscheduled admissions after anesthesia, 33% are predictable and 19% preventable, indicating intervention opportunities.
Local Problem: At our institution, 52% of post-operative admissions to the pediatric intensive care unit were unscheduled, significantly higher than the Virtual Pediatric Systems comparison group rate of 34% (p …

Nursing Research & Professional Development Conference
Background: Accurate height measurement is a critical component of patient care in the pediatric intensive care unit. In children with acute respiratory distress syndrome, appropriate ventilator settings improve clinical outcomes and reduce mortality. Ventilator tidal volumes are commonly based on predicted body weight, which is derived from patient height or length. Ensuring accurate and timely height documentation is essential for optimizing mechanical ventilation strategies for improved outcomes.
Local Problem: Ventilator settings were historically selected using patients’ actual body weight rather than the predicted body weight derived from their height. This approach did not align with pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome …
