Exploring Pre-Service Teachers’ Self-Efficacy Beliefs And Self-Handicapping Behaviours In The Context Of University Culture, Ersin Eren Akgöz, Fatih Şahin, Emre Sönmez
i.e.: inquiry in education
This study explores pre-service teachers' perceptions of university culture, their beliefs regarding academic self-efficacy, and their engagement in self-handicapping behaviors, as well as the interrelationships among these variables. A questionnaire was administered to a sample of 251 pre-service teachers selected through an appropriate sampling method. In addition to descriptive statistical analyses, correlation and regression analyses were conducted.
The findings indicate that pre-service teachers predominantly perceive university culture as hierarchical, exhibit high academic self-efficacy beliefs, and demonstrate minimal self-handicapping behaviors. Furthermore, both university culture and academic self-efficacy beliefs were found to be negatively correlated with self-handicapping behaviors. Notably, only the university's …

The Impact Of Telemedicine On Pediatric Specialty Patients’ Access To Care, Barbara R. Medvec, Tamara L. Hill, John D. Knight
The Impact Of Telemedicine On Pediatric Specialty Patients’ Access To Care, Barbara R. Medvec, Tamara L. Hill, John D. Knight
Biennial Convention (CONV)
Background: Pediatric patient no-shows to specialty clinic appointments are a problem, with no-show rates as high as 50%. The limited number of pediatric specialty providers leads to longer lead times when rescheduling, further delaying care. One often cited no-show factor is inconvenient appointment access. COVID-19 offered telemedicine as an additional patient access method. In this study, we compared no-show rates before the COVID-19 pandemic with no-show rates during the pandemic and in the post-pandemic period to evaluate (1) the impact of telemedicine patient access on the overall no-show rate for pediatric ambulatory clinic visits and (2) the telemedicine no-show rate …

Objectives: Corticosteroid agonists of the glucocorticoid receptor are a mainstay of therapeutics for pro-inflammatory conditions. Vamorolone is a novel partial agonist that is differentiated from the other members of the corticosteroid class by non-metabolism by 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases, antagonism of the mineralocorticoid receptor, and differential co-factor binding. Our objective was to define the pharmacodynamic response of serum proteins to vamorolone. Methods: Clinical trial participants with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (4 to < 7 yr; n = 39; mean [SD] age = 5.3 [1.0]) enrolled in a multiple ascending dose study of vamorolone were studied (24-fold dose range). Dose-response and exposure–response of 1,305 serum proteins were defined by intra-subject longitudinal changes (baseline vs. Day 14). Results: Dose-response analysis identified 159 of 1,305 serum proteins as dose-responsive to vamorolone (12 % of proteins tested; 20 % increased, 80 % decreased). Two inflammatory networks showed drug-responsive suppression. One centered on extracellular serine proteases and lymphotoxins (PI3, KLK7, KLK8, KLK11, lympho-toxins A, B) converging on NFκB. The second centered on cytokines (CCL22/MDC, CCL21, CCL14, CXCL12) and IL23 signaling. In the IL23 network, acutely responsive anti-inflammatory proteins included increases of an inhibitor of IL17 signaling (IL17RC) and decreases of IL23 (IL12B:IL23A). A protein associated with resistance to environmental microbes, PTP1C, showed strong induction and is a novel candidate for aspects of corticosteroid efficacy. Two networks of cell-associated proteins were identified as drug responsive that may represent muscle tissue response (efficacy): connective tissue remodeling upstream of Notch signaling, and plasma membrane proteins impinging on AKT1 signaling. Conclusion: The serum proteome pharmacodynamics of the response to vamorolone was defined.

"The Terms And Spirit": Preserving The Purpose Of The Fair Labor Standards Act By Applying The Clear And Convincing Evidence Standard In Flsa Exemption Cases, Bridget Mccourt
Cleveland State Law Review
In 2023, the Fourth Circuit in Carrera v. E.M.D. Sales split from its sister courts by requiring employers to prove by clear and convincing evidence that an employee is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (“FLSA”). The Supreme Court reversed the Fourth Circuit’s decision, resolving the split by holding that the preponderance of the evidence is the correct standard. This Note argues that the Fourth Circuit, despite failing to provide a justification for its heightened standard, was correct because it preserves the terms and spirit of the FLSA. Congress enacted the FLSA as a remedial statute aimed to alleviate …
The Fearless Decision And The Future Of Race-Conscious Charities, Chenglin Liu
The Fearless Decision And The Future Of Race-Conscious Charities, Chenglin Liu
Cleveland State Law Review
Historically, courts tended to differentiate between invidious discrimination against racial minorities and benign discrimination against whites in the context of affirmative action movements. With the social movements galvanized by the conservatives and the change of composition of the Supreme Courts and lower courts, the feasibility of race-conscious measures aimed at helping minorities is substantially reduced. The conservatives’ win in Fearless, coupled with the Trump Administration’s attacks on DEI, have produced a self-censoring effect on charitable organizations. Because of these threats, race-conscious charities will have to modify their practices to become more “inclusive” or face legal challenges from conservatives.
Unfollowing Censorship: A Policy-Oriented Analysis Of Government Pressure On Social Media Content Management, William C. Morgan
Unfollowing Censorship: A Policy-Oriented Analysis Of Government Pressure On Social Media Content Management, William C. Morgan
Cleveland State Law Review
The introduction of social media has facilitated communications and connectivity globally. However, in recent years, social media companies have started to adopt content moderation practices that are directly influenced by government pressure to comply with their requests to arrange information. Typically, these newly adopted practices often aim to censor or diminish the exposure of certain views, comments, and/or posts that the U.S. government, through its actors, dislike or find threatening to national security. This paper examines how informal government outreach to indirectly monitor, and control social media companies’ content moderation practices undermine the platforms’ constitutionally protected editorial autonomy. Consequently, this …

Abstract
Problem: Airway management is the primary intervention for halting clinical decompensation in pediatric and neonatal patients. In cases where patients require invasive support, endotracheal intubation (ETI) is the preferred method of airway securement. Unfortunately, ETI is a challenging skill to develop, especially when caring for children and infants, resulting in increased rates of failed ETI attempts which can result in worse outcomes. ETI success rates in the population of interest have fallen in recent years, nationally and among the clinicians in this project. The institution established a goal for first pass success (FPS) and video laryngoscope (VL) was introduced …
