Pathways To Aggression: Understanding Peer Victimization In Adolescence, Makenzie H. Clarken Dec 2025

Pathways To Aggression: Understanding Peer Victimization In Adolescence, Makenzie H. Clarken

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

Insight into aggression among early adolescents is important to understanding its predictors and consequences. In adolescence, aggression is typically related to underlying issues. Addressing this is important, as unmanageable aggression progressing past early adolescence can result in involvement in the criminal justice system. Studies show that peer victimization is associated with increased levels of aggression. Aggressive adolescents may attract victimization from their peers, or those who are victimized may respond with aggression. The current study followed a sample of 182 fifth and sixth graders over the course of the school year. Constructs such as aggression, peer victimization, and social withdrawal …

Empowerment Or Imprisonment? The Line Between Sex Work And Sex Trafficking: A Comparison Of Law Enforcement And Academic Perspectives, Jocelyn Belcastro

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

This research explores the line between consensual sex work and sex trafficking to gain a better understanding of the prevalence and pathways through which sex work may transition into sex trafficking. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with law enforcement professionals that work closely with survivors of sex trafficking to examine the pathways from consent to coercion. An interview with a former sex worker, now college professor, was also conducted to examine the lived experience and academic perspective. Both the law enforcement and academic perspectives were analyzed and compared to one another to form a nuanced understanding of the complex issue of …

Comparative Analysis Of The Effects Of Peppermint Oil On Colorectal Cancer Cells And Human Fibroblasts, Allen W. Mccumbers

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

This study contrasted the effects of Peppermint Oil on two cell lines, HT29s (colorectal adenocarcinoma cells) and HFFs (Human Foreskin Fibroblasts). Cytotoxic as well as genomic effects were compared between the cell lines. Trypan Blue, Alamar Blue, and qPCR assays were used to study these effects. Both cell lines were treated with a range of Peppermint Oil concentrations, and it was determined that there is a dose-dependent factor associated with cytotoxicity. To confirm results, Alamar and Trypan Blue assays were repeated at 300 and 500 cells/mL respectively. Effects were confirmed, and results were averaged and plotted. Alamar Blue revealed that …

Holistically Analyzing The Initial Athlete-Provider Interaction During Sports Injury Diagnosis, Tyler Baldwin Dec 2025

Holistically Analyzing The Initial Athlete-Provider Interaction During Sports Injury Diagnosis, Tyler Baldwin

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

Recovering from injury is crucial for an athlete’s health-related quality of life and mental health. A potentially significant moment that could influence an athlete’s mindset towards recovery is the interaction between the provider and athlete during initial diagnosis. To analyze this moment from both perspectives, this study performs a thematic analysis of five semi-structured provider interviews and ten athlete interviews. In this study, all five providers exemplified an understanding of this moment’s significance, expressing awareness of their potential impact on the athlete’s mindset, and emphasizing mutual understanding to ensure streamlined recovery. Meanwhile, all ten of the athletes expressed self-awareness regarding …

Factors Associated With Stillbirth In Four Selected Hospital Maternity Units: An Unmatched Case-Control Study In Eswatini, Phetsile Thwala, Abednego Ongeso, Rose Maina, Benard Mutwiri

School of Nursing & Midwifery, East Africa

Background: Stillbirth is a substantially under-recognized adverse pregnancy outcome that predominantly occurs in low-middle-income countries. In 2019, Eswatini’s stillbirth rate was 13.2 per 1,000 births, higher than global targets. However, there is limited research on stillbirths in Eswatini. This study analyzed factors associated with stillbirths among women giving birth in four selected hospitals.

Methods: A multi-center unmatched case-control study was conducted using secondary data sources from July 1 to December 31, 2021. Birth records of 268 stillbirths (cases) and 1,151 live births (controls) were selected using consecutive and systematic random sampling, respectively. A piloted data extraction tool was used to …

“For Whom The Bell Tolls”?* Is The Corporate Transparency Act Dead, And If Not, What Is Its Impact On Corporate Governance?, Kellen Ware Dec 2025

“For Whom The Bell Tolls”?* Is The Corporate Transparency Act Dead, And If Not, What Is Its Impact On Corporate Governance?, Kellen Ware

UC Law Business Journal

The Corporate Transparency Act (“CTA” or “the Act”) was enacted by Congress in 2021 to combat illicit financial activity through mandated beneficial ownership disclosure. While the current administration has opted not to enforce the CTA’s reporting requirements on domestic entities, the law remains in effect, and its future is uncertain amid ongoing constitutional litigation.

This Note argues that the CTA should be repealed, and state legislatures should refrain from mirroring the Act. The CTA creates undue burdens that threaten effective and efficient corporate governance in small businesses and many non-profits. This Note traces the contentious history of the CTA and …

Public Engagement In Small-Town Planning: A Case Study Of The Wellsville Trails And Active Transportation Plan, Tayli R. Hillyard

All Graduate Reports and Creative Projects, Fall 2023 to Present

This thesis presents a qualitative case study of public engagement in the Wellsville Trails and Active Transportation Plan, developed in Wellsville, Utah—a small municipality with limited staff and resources. Drawing from planning literature on effective community participation, the study evaluates outreach strategies based on their reach, feasibility, and replicability. Outreach strategies in the plan’s development included surveys, stakeholder meetings, a public open house, digital tools, and informal conversations. While early outreach efforts, such as the interest survey and personal invitations, generated meaningful input, the process fell short in sustaining engagement, reaching underrepresented groups, and maintaining consistent communication. The analysis highlights …

Identifying Barriers For Community Pharmacies As Vaccines For Children (Vfc) Providers In Rural Alabama: Opportunities For Solutions, Myra Bajwa Dec 2025

Identifying Barriers For Community Pharmacies As Vaccines For Children (Vfc) Providers In Rural Alabama: Opportunities For Solutions, Myra Bajwa

Honors Theses

Significant Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination disparities exist between rural and urban areas in the US. A primary contributor is low access to preventive care in rural areas. Among the most promising strategies to overcome this is increasing access through offering HPV vaccination in non-traditional, convenient health settings such as pharmacies. In rural areas, community pharmacies are trusted, convenient pillars of the community. In Alabama, community pharmacies are eligible for enrollment in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program, a federally-funded program that provides free vaccines to children and adolescents under 18 years old who are uninsured, underinsured, American Indian, or Alaska …

Best Practice Recommendations For Anesthesia Providers In Preventing Postoperative Delirium In The Geriatric Population Undergoing Non-Cardiac Surgery, Ana Primeaux, Ashanti Reed Dec 2025

Best Practice Recommendations For Anesthesia Providers In Preventing Postoperative Delirium In The Geriatric Population Undergoing Non-Cardiac Surgery, Ana Primeaux, Ashanti Reed

Doctoral Projects

Postoperative delirium (POD) is a significant and preventable complication in geriatric patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. Such complication is associated with foreseeable consequences, such as prolonged hospitalization, long-term cognitive decline, increased morbidity and mortality, and increased costs. Despite the emerging awareness of evidence-based nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic interventional strategies, POD still represents a clinical challenge for anesthesia providers.

Currently, there is a lack of clinical guidelines to guide formalized education and evidence-based interventions on POD prevention across anesthesia practice settings. Consequently, there is a critical need to raise awareness that the lack of clinical guidelines and the high incidence of POD may …

Advancing Anesthesia Provider Proficiency In Airway Assessment Using Point-Of-Care Ultrasound: An Osce-Based Educational Initiative, Austin Fike, Trevor Jordan, Sam Sherrill Iii Dec 2025

Advancing Anesthesia Provider Proficiency In Airway Assessment Using Point-Of-Care Ultrasound: An Osce-Based Educational Initiative, Austin Fike, Trevor Jordan, Sam Sherrill Iii

Doctoral Projects

Airway management is one of the fundamental pillars of anesthesia. Traditionally, tools such as the Mallampati classification and the thyromental distance are used for airway assessment in the perioperative area. However, often, these methods fail to reliably predict difficult intubations. The use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has emerged as a valuable adjunct in airway assessment. However, a knowledge deficit exists among anesthesia providers regarding its application in airway assessments for perioperative adult patients. This doctoral project addressed the knowledge deficit in POCUS airway assessment among Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs) through the development and …
