Relationship Between Respiration And Reflection -Design For Abdominal Suppleness As A New Healthcare Index, Takashi Kato
Relationship Between Respiration And Reflection -Design For Abdominal Suppleness As A New Healthcare Index, Takashi Kato
IASDR Conference Series
Modern healthcare devices quantify bodily states through data, yet users rarely feel a direct bodily connection. This study introduces abdominal suppleness—the softness of the upper abdomen during respiration—as a new embodied health indicator. Integrating traditional Japanese abdominal examination (Fukushin) with physiological measurement, we examined how autonomic activity affects abdominal motion. Experiments using the ocul ocardiac reflex showed slower and deeper abdominal movement under parasympathetic dominance, suggesting that suppleness relates to relaxation. Beyond physiology, we frame abdominal suppleness as a design parameter that bridges sensation and data, enabling users to perceive internal states through reflection via embodiment. This research extends health …

The integration of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in creatives has caused significant psychological concerns for professionals like replacement fears, obsolescence of skills, and loss of identity, which have been cumulatively termed as Creative Displacement Anxiety (CDA). Although the revolutionary promise of GenAI has garnered greater attention, empirical research is devoid of measurement tools for the unique psychosocial stressors creatives face in AI-augmented environments. This research aims to fill the identified gap by constructing and validating a multidimensional scale for CDA utilizing a two-phase methodology. Based on information gathered from creative industry professionals, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) revealed seven fundamental dimensions …

Designing Ai Based Service For Dementia Care Through Innovation Management Lens: A Model Of Trust Through Imperfect Technology, Chu-Yun Lin, Mimi Nguyen
IASDR Conference Series
As AI technologies increasingly enter ethically sensitive domains like healthcare, questions emerge about how to design for trust, transparency, and appropriate human-AI interaction. This paper examines how imperfection in AI systems - when made interpret able and ethically governed - can become a design feature rather than a flaw, especially in the context of dementia care. Situated in Taiwan’s rapidly ageing demographic, the study engages with the dual tensions between technological efficiency and relational care. Through a quantitative survey (n=70) and statistical analysis, it interrogates how design strategies such as 'controllable imperfection' and 'exiting mechanisms' influence user trust, emotional attachment, …
