Lower-limb prosthetics are typically developed within clinical frameworks that prioritise function, mobility, and rehabilitation. Yet for many amputees, the prosthesis is not merely a technical aid; it is a symbolic artefact that intersects with identity, visibility, and emotional recovery. This paper maps the dual prosthetic journey, comprising a clinical path of surgery, fitting, and gait training, alongside a symbolic path of shock, adaptation, and self-expression, to show how movement and meaning evolve in parallel. This paper explores the integration of system-level design thinking with product-level design outcomes to address barriers to sports participation for people with disabilities. A co-design workshop involving 9 participants with a mix of lived experience, domain expertise, and design practice, was conducted to identify product requirements and broader system factors to inform the development of an adaptive virtual handcycle trainer to be deployed in virtual cycling centres. Using the User Journey Map, the study explored learners’ pain points and needs during the English learning process. Air pollution is both largely invisible and extensively monitored, making it a data-intensive issue that presents significant challenges for public engagement. Its abstract and often intangible nature makes it difficult for people to relate to or understand. This study explores how an immersive coffee tasting experience, integrating sensory design and mindfulness guidance can evoke participants’ psychological transformation and embodied engagement. Thematic analysis identified five interconnected stages: sensory unfolding, immersive perception, mindfulness experience, internal transformation, and behavioral intention. Findings indicate that participants initially heightened their awareness of sensory details—such as the materiality of cups, ambient sounds, and aromas—then entered a state of focused immersion, experiencing emotional resonance and self-reflection through mindfulness. The research investigated the feasibility and effectiveness of an interactive feedback system integrating wearable sensors and real-time visual feedback for pre-vocational lower limb motor function in individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID). Using a single-group pre- and post-test design, 12 participants completed five training sessions focusing on knee extension, plantarflexion, and do rsi flex ion. Outcomes were evaluated through gait stability metrics (total deviation, walking time, and steps) and surface electro myo graphy (sEMG) signals. Gamification and interactive technology have shown promise in enhancing upper-limb stroke rehabilitation by improving patient engagement and motor recovery. However, how to design for patients’ motivation in game-based rehabilitation remains underexplored. This study conducts a scoping review of the game-based rehabilitation literature (2010–2025), with a focus on gamified goal setting, to understand how rehabilitation goals are integrated into game mechanics. This research explores how immersive virtual reality (VR) storytelling can foster empathy toward people living with dementia. Developed through a Research through Design (RtD) approach, the project simulates symptoms such as disorientation, memory loss, and language disruption using symbolic interaction and narrative fragmentation. A hybrid narrative structure combines fictional sequences with real-life audio testimony. User evaluations revealed that while immersive metaphors effectively conveyed confusion and emotional vulnerability, the inclusion of authentic voices significantly deepened empathic engagement. This study investigates older adults' perceptions, expectations, and concerns regarding Virtual Reality (VR)-based grocery shopping, with the intention of exploring both barriers and opportunities within virtual retail environments and obtaining design insights towards an age-friendly VR shopping platform. Using a mixed-method approach, that includes VR trials, interviews, observations, and focus groups, this study identifies key opportunities and limitations of VR shopping for aged 65+ customers. Findings suggest several benefits of VR shopping, including enhanced mobility, immersive realism, reduced decision fatigue, and cognitive and sensory engagement. As artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly transforms professional design practice, academic programs face the challenge of preparing students for AI-augmented creative work while maintaining foundational skills and values. This paper introduces MuSE (Multispecies Sensory Engagement), an interactive silicone bioreactor designed to create emotional bonds between humans and kombucha SCOBY microorganisms. Guided by a More-than-Human-Centered-Design (MtHCD) and Research through Design (RtD) framework, this project applies the concepts of exposure therapy and embodied cognition to biology-based HCI, using an auto-ethnographic approach to explore how sensory interactions can shift human perceptions of less relatable life forms. Virtual Reality (VR) offers opportunities for interactive learning, yet how presence relates to efficacy depends on task design, system control, and learner characteristics. This study examined how presence, system task design (SYS), and learner traits—including baseline efficacy and GPT-based interaction— shape technology adoption (TAM) and technological efficacy (TE) in browser-based VR. Eighty students completed web-based VR scenarios, and data analyzed with structural equation and generalized additive models. The SEM model showed good fit (robust CFI = .95). AI hallucination and bias are commonly viewed as flaws, leading to a premature narrowing of their design space and an under-exploration of their potential to enrich community ties and meaning of place. Focusing on digital placemaking context, this research investigates how innocuous AI imperfections could foster interaction and connection between intercultural communities. We conducted workshops with Dutch locals and migrants who co-created and interacted with Generative AI applications that produced diverse content about places. Findings reveal that AI misinterpretations facilitated intercultural dialogue and connection by prompting shared correction, playful co- imagination, and memory exchange.
