Crypto Exchanges In Market Regulation, Yesha Yadav
Crypto Exchanges In Market Regulation, Yesha Yadav
Vanderbilt Law Review
The cryptocurrency market has proven notoriously challenging to regulate despite a decade during which it has gained in economic size, sophistication, and cultural impact. Even as repeated crises have left ordinary savers wiped out, regulation has shown itself to be woefully absent as a means of mitigating risks ex ante or helping cover the cost of damage ex post. This Article looks to break this deadlock by proposing a tried-and-tested solution: It argues that regulators should task crypto exchanges with providing oversight as self-regulatory organizations of the crypto market in which they play an anchoring role. It offers three supporting …
Implementing Climate Remedies, Camila Bustos
Implementing Climate Remedies, Camila Bustos
Vanderbilt Law Review
Climate change litigation has emerged as a powerful tool for addressing the climate crisis, particularly in the face of executive and legislative inaction. Across jurisdictions, courts have issued landmark decisions mandating stronger mitigation targets and recognizing rights-based claims against governments and corporations. While recent scholarship has examined the trends, legal theories, and broader effects of this relatively new phenomenon, it has primarily focused on bringing and winning legal challenges. Less attention has been paid to a crucial phase: the implementation and enforcement of judicial rulings. A deeper understanding of how climate remedies are implemented can provide valuable insights for climate …

2020-Current year OA Pubs
Inter-brain synchrony (IBS), measured by hyperscanning, refers to the synchronization of multiple individuals' brain activities during social interactions. Traditional fNIRS-based hyperscanning suffers shortcomings like low spatial resolution and high susceptibility to superficial interference, causing imprecise estimation of IBS in complex social tasks. This study aims to fill the knowledge gap by comprehensively assessing diffuse optical tomography (DOT), an enhanced alternative to fNIRS, can benefit hyperscanning studies of complex social interactions. Sixteen dyads were engaged in both collaborative and individual tangram puzzle tasks, and their brain activities were recorded simultaneously using DOT and fNIRS. We found that DOT demonstrated significantly stronger …

Impact Of Immediate Restoration On Bone Remodeling In The Esthetic Zone: A Randomized Clinical Trial, Hao-Dong Wang, Xin-Hai Lin, Yi-Wen Wu, Hong-Run Zhou, Tai Zhao Wei, Xi Chen, Yi-Qun Tang, Ya-Qin Zhu, Long Jiang
Journal of Dental Sciences
Background/purpose: Traumatic loss of anterior teeth creates esthetic challenges and often requires immediate rehabilitation. Although immediate implant placement and restoration (IIPR) shortens treatment time, strict primary stability limits its use. A native-crown restoration supported by fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) splints may broaden the indications of immediate restoration, but its effectiveness remains unclear. This randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the effects of the novel immediate restoration following IIP on peri-implant bone remodeling in anterior esthetic zone trauma during osseointegration.
Materials and methods: Twenty participants undergoing IIP in the anterior maxilla were randomized into two groups. In the experimental group, immediate restorations …

Journal of Dental Sciences
Background/purpose: Although risk factors for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) are known, clinical assessment prior to dental extraction remains largely subjective. We aimed to develop and externally validate a simple clinical risk scoring system to predict post-extraction MRONJ in osteoporotic patients receiving antiresorptive therapy (ART) and support evidence-based clinical decision-making.
Materials and methods: This retrospective cohort study used a derivation cohort (N = 1,067 extractions, 2003‒2022) to develop a 5- to 16-point risk score system based on five predictors (age ≥ 75, ART duration ≥ 24 months, bisphosphonate use, drug interruption < 3 months, and extraction site). The model was validated in an independent cohort (N = 928 extractions, 2022–2024) using a pre-defined ≥12 cut-off. Performance metrics included the area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV).
Results: MRONJ prevalence was lower in the validation …

Rigorous Validation Of Machine Learning Models For Orthodontic Extraction Prediction Using Nested Cross-Validation And Smotenc-Integrated Pipelines., Anh Thi-Ngoc Do, Hung Trong Hoang, Thuy-Trang Thi Ho, Hieu Ngoc Le
Journal of Dental Sciences
Background/purpose: Machine learning (ML) in orthodontics often suffers from optimistic bias due to data leakage and improper handling of class imbalance. This study implemented and evaluated a production-grade validation framework - nested cross-validation (CV) - for three distinct algorithm classes (logistic regression, random forest, and gradient boosting) using a consensus-labeled orthodontic dataset.
Materials and methods: A retrospective dataset of 500 patients (334 non-extraction/166 extraction) was curated with 41 processed features. Two stratified split protocols (70/30 and 80/20) were evaluated to assess model robustness. To ensure methodological rigor, a 5-fold outer/3-fold inner nested cross-validation was implemented. Crucially, SMOTENC (synthetic minority over-sampling …

Sleep Restriction Exacerbates Pulpal Inflammation And Impairs Tissue Repair Following Dental Pulp Capping: An In Vivo Animal Study, Siqi Huang, Qian Wang, Ziyu Chen, Guomiao Zhang, Ying Zheng
Journal of Dental Sciences
As a fundamental physiological process, sleep is essential for maintaining systemic homeostasis. Although sleep restriction (SR) has been shown to trigger a systemic inflammatory response, its specific impact on local pulpal inflammation remains poorly understood. In this preliminary study, we investigated the effects of SR on the inflammatory response and reparative capacity of dental pulp in a rat model. Immunohistochemistry and western blotting revealed that, even in intact pulp tissue, SR upregulated the expression of interleukin-6, increased the infiltration of neutrophils, and activated the nuclear factor-kappa B signaling pathway. Subsequent investigations demonstrated that following dental pulp capping, SR provoked an …

Nasal Polyp With Ossification In The Right Maxillary Sinus: Differential Diagnosis Of Radiopaque Lesions In Maxillary Sinus Region, Ssu-Li Li, Shan-Ju Chou, Yang-Che Wu, Chun-Yu Ho
Journal of Dental Sciences
Nasal polyps are soft, droplet-like lumps that develop on the inner lining of the nose or sinuses due to long-term inflammation in those areas. Nasal polyps are common lesions, however, the occurrence of osseous metaplasia within them is relatively rare. Besides, without a CT scan, relying solely on plain X-ray films to assist clinical diagnosis can easily be misleading due to the uncertainty of the lesion’s location. In this report, our treatment steps were described as medical image analysis, removing the lesion, confirming the pathological result, and regularly follow-up. The Caldwell-Luc approach rather than endoscopic surgery was performed due to …

Herbal Medicine For Oral Ulcer Treatment: Mechanisms, Efficacy, And Therapeutic Potential, Shinn-Zong Lin, Tsung-Hsien Chuang, Chih-Yang Huang, Tsung-Jung Ho, Yi-Pang Lee
Journal of Dental Sciences
Oral ulcers are common inflammatory lesions of the oral mucosa that significantly affect patients’ quality of life through pain, eating difficulties, and psychological stress. Their development is multifactorial, involving mechanical trauma, infection, nutritional deficiencies, immune dysregulation, and oxidative stress. Conventional treatments including antiseptics, corticosteroids, and immunomodulators, provide symptomatic relief but are often limited by side effects, recurrence, and poor patient adherence. Increasing interest has therefore focused on herbal medicines as complementary or alternative therapies. Numerous single herbs such as Aloe vera, licorice, curcumin, chamomile, berberine, neem, sage, myrrh, and guava and traditional formulations have demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, antimicrobial, and …

Journal of Dental Sciences
Background/purpose: Natural smile photographs are universally accessible yet no automated method achieves clinically acceptable per-tooth detection from these images. Existing frameworks require lip-retracted intraoral views, and prior work on smile images achieved insufficient accuracy. This study developed a per-tooth detection and segmentation pipeline for natural smile photographs and assessed its applicability to digital smile design.
Materials and methods: A total of 1,471 smile photographs were annotated via model-assisted labeling. Fifteen You Only Look Once (YOLO) models across three architecture families and five size tiers were compared. A two-stage pipeline combined the best-performing detector with high-quality Segment Anything Model (HQ-SAM) for …
