Effect Of Increasing Potency Of Steroidal Implants In Beef Steers At Weaning From Dry-Lot To Finish, Weston Joseph Peschel Jan 2026

Effect Of Increasing Potency Of Steroidal Implants In Beef Steers At Weaning From Dry-Lot To Finish, Weston Joseph Peschel

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The receiving phase is a stressful transition period in beef production. Newly weaned cattle are offered low-energy, high-forage diets promoting lean tissue and bone development prior to the finishing phase. Steroidal implants containing trenbolone acetate (TBA) and estradiol benzoate (EB) enhance lean gain. Aggressive early implant exposure has been shown to negatively impact intramuscular fat deposition. This two-part study evaluated the initial and carryover effects of increasing doses of combined TBA and EB weaning implants on growth performance, serum metabolites, and carcass traits. In Exp. 1, newly weaned Charolais × Red Angus crossbred beef steers [n = 240 initially; body …

A Framework For Reliable Domain Ai: Knowledge-Grounded Data And Logic-Graph Reasoning, Yangxiao Bai Jan 2026

A Framework For Reliable Domain Ai: Knowledge-Grounded Data And Logic-Graph Reasoning, Yangxiao Bai

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Large language models (LLMs) perform well on general tasks, yet their deployment in specialized, high-stakes domains such as public health remains unreliable. Models hallucinate facts, combine multi-step evidence incorrectly, and retrieve context that corrupts downstream reasoning. Three root causes underlie these failures: training data that underrepresents rare but critical domain themes, reasoning that is opaque and unverifiable, and evidence use that cannot be re-checked when the evidence changes. This dissertation addresses all three. First, we introduce HDBSCAN_SSA, a coarse-to-fine topic-modeling pipeline that couples density-based clustering with a novel Semantic Seed Aggregation algorithm. Using samples drawn from a larger corpus of …

Strip-Till Adoption For Soybean Production In Eastern South Dakota: Plant Development, Seed Quality, And Economic Analysis, Nicolas Passone

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Soybean production in eastern South Dakota faces a persistent challenge: cool, wet spring conditions combined with heavy soils limit the adoption of conservation tillage despite its soil health and environmental benefits. Strip-tillage has been proposed as a middle-ground practice capable of providing conservation benefits while maintaining the seedbed quality advantages of conventional tillage. However, its performance in soybean production in South Dakota had not been evaluated prior to this work. This research examined the effects of tillage systems and fertilizer placement-timing, fertilizer rate, and seeding rate on soybean plant development, nutrient uptake, seed yield, chemical composition, and partial net economic …

Ai Vs. Genai: Combating Llm Generated Prescription Fraud With Transformer Based Detection Models, Ankitha Vokkaleri Shankarappa

Selected Full-Text Master Theses 2021-

The rapid evolution of Large Language Models (LLMs) has introduced a sophisticated new vector for healthcare fraud: the generation of high-fidelity, synthetic medical prescriptions. Traditional fraud detection systems, which rely on rule-based engines and basic statistical anomalies, are increasingly ill-equipped to identify these AI-generated forgeries that mimic the structural and clinical logic of authentic records. This thesis presents a robust detection framework using Transformer-based architectures to distinguish between human-authored Medicare Part D prescriptions and fully synthetic records generated by GPT-4.

The research was conducted across two distinct phases: an initial pilot study using 4,000 samples and a rigorous validation stress …

Advancing Cns Tumor Management: Novel Modalities In Surgery, Radiation, And Chemotherapy, Armin David Tavakkoli Jan 2026

Advancing Cns Tumor Management: Novel Modalities In Surgery, Radiation, And Chemotherapy, Armin David Tavakkoli

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

Most tumors affecting the brain and spine are managed through a combination of surgical resection, radiation, and chemotherapy; however, operative morbidity from invasive surgery, the narrow therapeutic window of conventional radiotherapy, and poor blood-brain barrier penetration of systemic agents are critical barriers that hinder long term tumor control. This thesis presents three complementary strategies to advance brain and spine tumor therapy. First, we investigate laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) in the treatment of spinal tumors with metastatic epidural spinal cord compression, replacing “separation surgery” with a minimally invasive, image-guided approach that maximizes tumor ablation while preserving neurologic function. Second, we …

The Influence, Dependency, And Targeting Of Fatty Acid Uptake In Er+ Breast Cancer, Abigail E. Goen Jan 2026

The Influence, Dependency, And Targeting Of Fatty Acid Uptake In Er+ Breast Cancer, Abigail E. Goen

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

Estrogen Receptor-positive/ Human Epidermal Growth Factor 2-negative, breast cancer (ER+/HER2- BC) is the most prevalent subtype of BC, impacting millions of individuals. Although early screening and treatment with endocrine therapy has greatly enhanced survival, this subtype sustains a steady increase of risk for recurrent disease for decades after diagnosis, indicating the persistence of residual cancer cells that are capable of maintaining dormancy for >20 years prior to metastatic outgrowth. Dormant cells reprogram metabolic pathways which can be profoundly influenced by the tumor microenvironment in promoting quiescence or proliferation. Fatty acid oxidation dependency has been noted as a hallmark of drug …

A Longitudinal Study On The Impact Of Childhood Air Pollution Exposure On Adolescent Cognition, Emily K. Carter Jan 2026

A Longitudinal Study On The Impact Of Childhood Air Pollution Exposure On Adolescent Cognition, Emily K. Carter

Open Access Dissertations

About 2 in 5 Americans live in areas with unhealthy levels of air pollution. Poor air quality has been shown to lead to a diverse set of negative health that can affect the cardiovascular system and have downstream effects on brain structure and cognition. The detrimental impacts of air pollution on cognition have been widely studied, though due to methodological limitations in the available research, a direct association between air pollution exposure and cognitive development remains inconclusive and unclear. Further, studies in this area have largely focused on prenatal exposure and neurocognitive impacts during early childhood; the potential longer-term effects …

Colorectal Cancers With Distinct Metastatic Potential Trigger Divergent Early T Cell Responses, Marwa Ahmed Saad Jan 2026

Colorectal Cancers With Distinct Metastatic Potential Trigger Divergent Early T Cell Responses, Marwa Ahmed Saad

Student Theses and Dissertations

The intestinal mucosa harbors the largest immune compartment in the mammalianbody, where resident and recruited immune cells must maintain tolerance to commensal and dietary antigens while preserving their ability to mount effective responses against pathogens and malignant transformation. Uncontrolled epithelial proliferation leads to colorectal cancer (CRC), the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. More than 85% of human CRC cases arise from accumulating sporadic or hereditary mutations in the tumor suppressor genes Apc, Tp53, Smad4, and the oncogene Kras. Although immune checkpoint blockade has transformed the treatment of certain solid tumors, most CRCs, particularly those with a proficient mismatch …

Noncanonical Roles Of Hepatitis B Virus Precore Rna In Reverse, Mengyin Zhang Jan 2026

Noncanonical Roles Of Hepatitis B Virus Precore Rna In Reverse, Mengyin Zhang

Student Theses and Dissertations

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a partially double-stranded DNA virus that replicates through reverse transcription. Transcription from the HBV core promoter generates two genome-length RNAs: pregenomic RNA (pgRNA) and precore RNA (pcRNA). pcRNA contains the entire pgRNA sequence plus an additional 32 nucleotides at its 5’ end that include the precore start codon, enabling translation of the precore protein, the precursor of the secreted HBV e antigen (HBeAg). Whereas pgRNA is translated to produce core and polymerase and serves as the template for reverse transcription by cis-acting HBV polymerase, pcRNA has long been considered unable to support HBV DNA synthesis. …

Collaboration And Co-Management Ahead Of Permitting: Understanding How Actors And Their Interactions Lead To Non-Optimal Shoreline Projects, Juita-Elena (Wie) Yusuf, Mariana Saitgalina, Michelle Covi

School of Public Service Faculty Publications

Living shorelines are widely promoted as nature-based solutions to coastal erosion and wetland protection, yet hardened shoreline structures continue to dominate even in jurisdictions with explicit policy mandates prioritizing living shorelines. In this research, we examine why non-optimal shoreline modification outcomes persist in Virginia (USA) despite a regulatory framework designed to promote ecological alternatives. We use primary data from interviews with wetlands board members, marine contractors, and nonprofit organizations and findings from a secondary survey of shoreline property owners to analyze shoreline management as a multi-sector collaborative decision-making process. Findings show that shoreline outcomes are shaped less by individual regulatory …

Broken Lands And Trusts: The Omnipresence Of The Natives’ Land Act Of 1913 And The Persistence Of Its Inequity, Emily Venkatesan Jan 2026

Broken Lands And Trusts: The Omnipresence Of The Natives’ Land Act Of 1913 And The Persistence Of Its Inequity, Emily Venkatesan

Emory International Law Review

The hallmark of all colonial and ex-colonial states is the preservation of racial hierarchy where a minority of white colonizers reserve complete control over the political, social, and economic landscape of a colonized nation. One of the most powerful exercises of this colonial oversight is the use of western property law to strip native landowners of their property interests and redistribute that land to white colonizer for economic and social power. Access and ownership of land is crucial for maintaining the colonial state. Land provides social and economic leverage in the hands of the indigenous nation, but strengthens the colonial …

Allocating Electricity, Alexandra Klass, Dave Owen Jan 2026

Allocating Electricity, Alexandra Klass, Dave Owen

Articles

The U.S. electricity system is premised on the ideas that utilities have a duty to serve all customers in their service territories and that electricity supply should always meet demand. Until recently, there has been little reason to question these foundational premises. U.S. electricity demand has remained flat for over a decade, and during earlier periods of growth, new energy generation plants were relatively easy to build. Now, however, electricity experts predict massive load growth—most notably from data centers to power artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency—and building new power plants is no longer easy.

Major efforts are underway to increase electricity …
