The Effect That Positive And Negative Self-Concepts Have On Adolescents' Behavior And Personalities, Portia L. Davis

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

Abstract

The development stage of adolescence is a complex process in which adolescents begin to explore their identity and form either a positive or negative self-concept. Self-concept plays a crucial role in shaping adolescents' personalities and behaviors. Self-concept includes how adolescents view themselves and how others see them. An adolescent's self-concept can influence their self-confidence, social relationships, and decision-making abilities. This study examines the relationship between overall self-concept and adolescents' personality traits and behaviors. To gather this information, a quantitative research design is used, in which adolescents complete assessments such as the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale (TSCS), the Woodcock-Johnson IV (WJ-IV), …

International Teacher Attrition: A Qualitative Meta-Synthesis Through The Job Demands-Resources Framework, Lakeysha Rena Joseph Toliver Jan 2026

International Teacher Attrition: A Qualitative Meta-Synthesis Through The Job Demands-Resources Framework, Lakeysha Rena Joseph Toliver

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

Abstract

Teacher attrition has emerged as a persistent crisis for workforce sustainability across international education systems. This crisis is threatening instructional continuity and deepening inequities that extend across the P-20 continuum. A substantial amount of research has been conducted on teacher attrition in individual countries worldwide. Isolated national studies rarely shed light on the structural patterns driving educators out of the profession, leaving policymakers without a clear cross-contextual understanding of why teachers leave. This qualitative meta-synthesis examined how the interaction between occupational demands and institutional supports shapes teacher attrition across international education contexts, using the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) framework to …

"It's Dangerous To Go Alone": Examining Npcs As Influential Social Agents In An Original Single-Player Rpg, Chloe Bella Whitfield

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

Parasocial Interactions (PSI) and Parasocial Relationships (PSR) may have the capacity to act as an extension of and supplement for healthy social interaction (Elvery, 2021). In some instances, PSI and PSR may even be used as a means to improve unfulfilled social needs and decrease feelings of loneliness (Jarzyna, 2021). It has been noted that digital media such as video games may produce parasocial encounters that are particularly unique, as they often simulate realistic, back-and-forth social interactions between users and a virtual agent (Elvery, 2022; Hartmann, 2008). The present study observed PSR formation between players and a non-player character (NPC) …

Invisible, Manipulated, And Politicised: Rethinking The Conceptual Foundations Of The Un Convention On The Rights Of The Child, Anshul Dalmia Jan 2026

Invisible, Manipulated, And Politicised: Rethinking The Conceptual Foundations Of The Un Convention On The Rights Of The Child, Anshul Dalmia

National Law School of India Review

This paper examines whether the rights articulated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (‘UNCRC’) can be meaningfully assimilated within the broader framework of international human rights. It locates this inquiry within enduring jurisprudential debates on the nature, justification, and enforceability of children’s rights. While international human rights law presumes a relatively stable rights-bearing subject, children occupy an ambivalent position—simultaneously recognised as rights-holders and as dependents mediated through an adult authority. Drawing on Tobin’s critique, which cautions against the dangers of conceptual indeterminacy, the paper argues that the UNCRC exemplifies these risks. It contends that the …

Deconstructing Parenthood: A Critical Queer Analysis Of Gender, Law, And Bionormativity In India, Jwalika Balaji Jan 2026

Deconstructing Parenthood: A Critical Queer Analysis Of Gender, Law, And Bionormativity In India, Jwalika Balaji

National Law School of India Review

Parenthood (the legal connection to one’s child) is often assumed to be a biologically determined and natural status, but in reality, it is a legal and social construct shaped by historical, cultural, and political contexts. This paper critically examines the legal framework of parenthood in India, highlighting how it privileges a bionormative, dyadic, heterosexual parental unit, while marginalising LGBTQ+ individuals, unmarried couples, and alternative family structures. Through a critical queer method, the paper deconstructs the bio-essentialist juxtaposition of gender, conjugality, and reproduction that underpins Indian family law. It explores how the legal framework selectively acknowledges the constructed nature of parenthood …

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Accurate strain measurement in cryogenic fuel pipelines is crucial for ensuring the structural integrity and reliability of rocket engine systems operating under extreme thermal conditions. Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors show significant potential for such applications; however, their inherent temperature-strain cross-sensitivity limits performance over wide temperature ranges. This research presents an enhanced compensation strategy combining multi-parameter optimization with temperature-zone-specific adaptation to improve the accuracy and stability of FBG-based strain sensing in harsh aerospace environments. Four special steel substrate materials including S03, S06, S07, and 1Cr18Ni9Ti, were evaluated using strain transfer theory and thermo-mechanical coupling simulations. Genetic algorithms optimized key design …

This paper presents a machine-learning approach to the development of all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs) with doped Lithium Lanthanum Zirconium Oxide (LLZO) electrolytes. LLZO electrolytes are promising solid electrolytes that exhibit high ionic conductivities of approximately ~10−3–10−4 S cm−1. However, optimizing the ionic conductivity of LLZO is a multiparametric challenge involving numerous compositional and processing variables. This work employs a data-driven methodology by applying machine learning to a dataset mined from the literature. This approach was used to model the intricate relationships between the compositional and synthesis variables and ionic conductivity. Tree-based and ensemble models, like Decision Tree, Random Forest, Light Gradient …

The Missing Constitutional Law Of Executive Conditions, Nicole Huberfeld, Matthew B. Lawrence Jan 2026

The Missing Constitutional Law Of Executive Conditions, Nicole Huberfeld, Matthew B. Lawrence

Faculty Articles

This Article contributes to the development of the constitutional law of executive conditions. The appropriations presidentialism of the second Trump Administration—the shift from bilateral executive/legislative cooperation and compromise in federal spending to executive unilateralism in defiance of congressional control—has forced courts into the administration of federal spending like never before. As a result, judges have been forced to confront legal questions that remained mostly dormant during the era of executive/legislative cooperation, including questions about the constitutionality of efforts to encourage through spending conditions what the federal government cannot mandate (or has not mandated) directly, like speech or silence on particular …

The Paradox Of Intellectual Property At The U.S. Supreme Court, Tonja Jacobi, Matthew Sag Jan 2026

The Paradox Of Intellectual Property At The U.S. Supreme Court, Tonja Jacobi, Matthew Sag

Faculty Articles

The Supreme Court is dramatically more politically polarized in the Roberts Court era, and the justices have been criticized for highly ideological and partisan decision-making. Yet, we show that there is one area of law that is becoming less ideologically divided and predictable: intellectual property (IP). In an earlier study, we showed that, prior to the Roberts Court, IP case outcomes were predictable based on judicial ideology, with more conservative justices embracing IP rights, as they do for real property. In the last two decades, IP has become more influential on the economy and society, through the increasing dominance of …

Equity And Justice In Water Pricing And The Effects On Water Distribution System Management, Brian Barkdoll

Michigan Tech Publications

Equity regarding access to potable water is paramount. Municipal Water Distribution Systems supply potable water to users and are essential to public health. To find the optimal price of water to maximize utility revenue and allow changes to the system components for capital and maintenance expenditures, network modeling was performed for 15 real MDWSs. A new power-law price-usage elasticity curve, entitled the Power Law Elasticity Function (PLEF), was used that allowed for various users, both high- and low-income, and a non-discretionary level of usage. It was found that: (1) the maximum profit was obtained when the price was approximately 0.8 …

Roles, Responsibilities, Considerations, And Beyond: Community Musical Care, Renate 艶子 Rohlfing

Music and Health Research Briefs

Community musical care is about creating spaces where people come together, connect, and imagine healthier futures through music. It is about nurturing environments where creativity becomes a tool for well-being and collective strength. The concept is grounded in a fundamental belief: People inherently understand how to use creativity to care for themselves and others. In their daily lives, they use music to deepen relationships, process emotions, and navigate the complexities of being human. A crucial aspect of this work involves sustaining cultural practices and honoring the musical traditions that communities carry forward through generations.
