The COSMA Journal

Sport management has transitioned from its origins in physical education to an established, business-oriented academic discipline, prompting new questions about how faculty composition and workload shape program delivery in resource-constrained contexts. This case study investigates faculty structures, instructional variety, and workload in sport management programs at small- to medium-sized U.S. colleges and universities, as defined by the Carnegie Size & Setting Classification. A mixed-methods survey of faculty (n = 61) was analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic content analysis. Quantitative results indicated that core courses are primarily taught by full-time faculty, with most programs relying on one to three full-time …

What’S My Name? Experiences Of Individuals With Traditional Hawaiian Names, Natalya N. Spotkaeff Jan 2026

What’S My Name? Experiences Of Individuals With Traditional Hawaiian Names, Natalya N. Spotkaeff

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

There is no systematic process of orienting non-Hawaiian educators to Hawaiian culture, as evidenced by name mispronunciation. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the experiences of individuals with traditional Hawaiian first names in a classroom environment. Critical race theory (CRT), especially the concept of microaggressions, was used as the framework for the study. Two research questions guided the study: What are the adult lived experiences with traditional Hawaiian first names encountered in academic settings during childhood? How do adults with traditional Hawaiian first names describe their experiences of race in the classroom? Semistructured interviews were conducted with …

Multidisciplinary Approach To Reducing Healthcare-Associated Infections: A Dnp Project, Jovinsky Jonaldo Eliscard

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Healthcare-associated infections are increasingly common in healthcare facilities due to multiple concerns, including negligence, human error, and poor conditions. According to Chuwa (2024), secondary infections are a significant threat to patient safety and wellness, reducing an organization’s ability to realize clinical objectives. The facility is a large healthcare provider operating numerous hospitals and care homes across the United States. The organization continues to report increased infection rates across its branches owing to a lack of standardized infection prevention and control protocols, reducing its efficiency and appeal. Internal audits point to inconsistencies in general sanitation, cleanliness, and hygiene. The organization also …

Cortical Hierarchy And Aphasia Severity: The Sensorimotor–Association Gradient Modulates Lesion Effects Within Language-Specific Networks, Ida Rangus, Natalie Busby, Nicholas Riccardi, Sigfus Kristinsson, Janina Wilmskoetter, Dirk B. Den Ouden, Chris Rorden, Roger Newman-Norlund, Julius Fridriksson Ph.D., Leonardo Bonilha

Faculty Publications

Aphasia severity after stroke varies widely and is not fully explained by lesion size or location. We propose that incorporating the brain’s sensorimotor-association (S-A) gradient, reflecting cortical hierarchy, offers a biologically grounded framework for predicting language outcomes. In 236 individuals with chronic left-hemisphere stroke, we examine whether the hierarchical position of lesions in language-specific (LS) and domain-general (DG) areas modulates aphasia severity. We parcellate lesions using a cortical atlas and weigh them by each region’s S-A rank. We apply hierarchical linear regression to test whether S-A ranking and its interaction with lesion volume improves prediction of Western Aphasia Battery-Revised Aphasia …

Oer Textbook Review For Human Inheritance - Chromosomes, Genes, And Traits - An Introduction To Genetics, Maria Lazebnik

Open Educational Resources Publications

This review evaluates the adoption and classroom integration of the open educational resource Chromosomes, Genes, and Traits: An Introduction to Genetics for NAS322: Human Inheritance. The instructor found the OER to be comprehensive, accurate, and well aligned with core human genetics concepts, though some content areas—particularly mutations and certain visual diagrams—required supplementation or revision. The flexibility of the OER allowed for significant reorganization, modular use, and removal of non-human examples to better suit course objectives. Integration into Brightspace improved accessibility, reduced student confusion around textbook requirements, and enhanced engagement through direct linking and built-in quizzes. Compared to the previously used …

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research

Small-conductance (KCa2.2) and intermediate-conductance (KCa3.1) Ca2+-activated K+ channels are gated by a Ca2+-calmodulin dependent mechanism. NS309 potentiates the activity of both KCa2.2 and KCa3.1, while rimtuzalcap selectively activates KCa2.2. Rimtuzalcap has been used in clinical trials for the treatment of spinocerebellar ataxia and essential tremor. We report cryo-electron microscopy structures of NS309-bound KCa2.2 and KCa3.1, in addition to structures of rimtuzalcap-bound KCa2.2 and mutant KCa3.1_R355K. The different conformations of calmodulin and the cytoplasmic HC helices in the …

Analysis Of The Determinants Of Cash Holdings And The Implications For Local Government Spending Effectiveness In West Java, Ismail Marzuki Randos, Nia Suciyati Jan 2026

Analysis Of The Determinants Of Cash Holdings And The Implications For Local Government Spending Effectiveness In West Java, Ismail Marzuki Randos, Nia Suciyati

Journal of Accounting Auditing and Business

Cash management is fundamental to sustaining uninterrupted local service delivery and supporting credible budget execution. In West Java, municipal cash holdings exhibited fluctuations over 2019–2023, with only a limited number of districts/cities consistently maintaining cash holdings ratios above the operational sufficiency threshold. This study examines (i) the determinants of cash holdings Capacity and (ii) the relationship between cash holdings and expenditure effectiveness. Cash Holdings Capacity is classified as sufficient when the cash holdings ratio exceeds 100%, whereas Expenditure Effectiveness is classified as effective when the effectiveness ratio exceeds 90%. The quantitative analysis applies binary logistic regression to 27 districts/cities in …
