Evaluation Of Handgrip Strength As A Surrogate Measure For Athletic Performance Metrics And Lower-Body Strength In High School Boys Basketball Players, Joseph R. Northcutt
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This quantitative correlational study examined relationships between bilateral handgrip strength (HGS) and athletic performance metrics, including vertical jump height, barbell squat one-repetition maximum (1RM), sprint speed, agility, and upper-body muscular endurance (push-up repetitions), in adolescent male basketball players. The study also evaluated whether inter-limb strength asymmetry was associated with the athletic performance outcomes.
29 male athletes aged 14-18 years participated in the research that included handgrip strength, vertical jump, lane agility drill, shuttle run, ¾-court sprint, push-up repetitions, and 1RM barbell squat. Statistical analyses were conducted using Jeffreys’s Amazing Statistics Program (JASP) and included Pearson product-moment correlations, Shapiro-Wilk assumption testing, …
Prevalence Of Intimacy Satisfaction In Relation To Burnout And Trauma Saturation Of First Responders, Krystoffer L. Bowman
Prevalence Of Intimacy Satisfaction In Relation To Burnout And Trauma Saturation Of First Responders, Krystoffer L. Bowman
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
A shared understanding of this issue enables us to recognize the uniqueness of each individual’s experience, supported by the consistent commitment of trauma-saturated professionals. But what happens when these individuals become so accustomed to trauma that they can no longer recognize it as such? When their professional identity is inherently tied to continuous exposure to trauma, they may unconsciously adopt emotional distancing as a coping mechanism, which can appear to others as a fixed personality trait or lifestyle, even outside the workplace. This professional emotional distancing, often a consequence of growing burnout and trauma saturation, may negatively impact intimacy satisfaction. …
Evaluating Theories On End-Of-Life Dreams And Visions With Similar Phenomena In Trauma-Related Populations, Christopher Channy Vinson
Evaluating Theories On End-Of-Life Dreams And Visions With Similar Phenomena In Trauma-Related Populations, Christopher Channy Vinson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
A grounded theory approach was used to conduct a study on participants (N=24) who were veterans with trauma-related dreams or who had a near-death experience. Research questions were designed to qualitatively examine the lived experiences of dreams and visions in a non-end-of-life setting. This allowed the data to give greater insight into the end-of-life phenomenon and deepen the body of knowledge on dreams and visions in general. A survey consisting of the PTGI-SF, LuCiD, NExS, and the Greyson NDE, along with open-ended survey questions designed to record dream narratives for a thematic analysis, was used. The dream narratives were coded …
Officers On Patrol: Perspectives Of An Arrest On Past And Present Law Enforcement Officers, Shanee N. Ellington
Officers On Patrol: Perspectives Of An Arrest On Past And Present Law Enforcement Officers, Shanee N. Ellington
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
While attempting to apprehend suspects, police officers must contend with complex obstacles arising from the arrest's legal, ethical, and sociopolitical context. Officers had to follow their department’s guidelines while also developing legal procedures when carrying out an arrest. The study focused on how an officer’s perception of arrest decisions and procedures encapsulated challenges and ethical dilemmas. Through a semi-structured interview with twenty respondents, this research explored the implications of arresting behaviors on officers’ professional identity formation and development. The data analysis followed the grounded theory approach, which focused on identifying differences and similarities between former and current officers over time. …
Examining The Intergenerational And Transgenerational Impact Of Military-Related Posttraumatic Stress Disorder On Academic Success In College Students In The United States, Kimberlee Bazo
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Military families and caregivers have unique experiences with their service member which can both enhance and challenge their daily lives. The purpose of this dissertation was to examine the transgenerational and intergenerational impact of military-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on academic success in college students in the United States. This non-experimental, quantitative research design utilized both descriptive and correlational data analysis. Self-report measures and grade point average (GPA) provided the data from a total of 67 participants, as determined by an a priori analysis, for the results and subsequent discussion sections. Participants were recruited through a variety of sources using …
Exploring The Counselor Identities Of Latina Counselors Through The Lens Of Their Familial, Cultural, And Religious Contexts: A Phenomenological Study, Samuel Landa
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Developing a counselor identity is an essential component of becoming a counselor. There are several factors influencing the developmental process. Though there are several studies that explore the topic of counselor identity development, the research on what this process entails for Latina counselors is limited. Thus, this transcendental phenomenological qualitative study explores how family, culture, and religion influence the counselor identity development of Latina counselors. This study utilized Schlossberg’s transition theory (1981) to observe how these factors become evident in the first year of their Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Program (CACREP) and how they influenced their …
Examining Perceived Problem-Solving Skills, Parenting Styles, And Biblical Principles: Insights From Parents Or Guardians Of African American Teen Males, Dorothy Farrow
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This quantitative study examined the relationship among parenting styles, the use of biblical principles in parenting, and the problem-solving skills of African American male teenagers aged 14 to 17 years in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, as perceived by their parents or guardians. The study addressed a significant gap in existing literature by integrating biblical teachings with established psychological theories on parenting. The primary theoretical frameworks included Baumrind's parenting styles theory and Bandura's social cognitive theory. Using the Kruskal–Wallis H and chi-square tests, the study assessed the potential relationships among parenting styles, biblical use in parenting, and parent-perceived problem-solving skills of their …

Experiences Of Victim Advocates Serving Military Sexual Assault Victims In The State Of New York: A Phenomenological Study, Neisha Louhar
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study is to describe victim advocates’ (VAs’) experiences serving victims of sexual assault (SA) in the State of New York. Current researchers emphasize experiences in the areas of professional satisfaction, development of new skills, and work relationships. The theories guiding the current research are Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and social cognitive theory (SCT). Maslow’s hierarchy of needs suggests that individuals are motivated to meet their needs in a specific order. Social cognitive theory’s observational learning shapes decision-making factors. have an important role in supporting victims of SA emotionally. Understanding victims’ experiences can provide awareness of …

Targeted therapies have revolutionized cancer care. Unfortunately, most patients develop refractory, multifocal resistance to these therapies within a matter of months. Here, we demonstrate that the evolution of resistance to EGFR inhibitors in EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer endows cells with hypersensitivity to a PAINS-like small molecule, MCB-613. Systematic proteomic, functional genomic, and biochemical studies revealed that MCB-613 binds KEAP1 in a covalent, cysteine-independent fashion, acting as a divalent molecular bridge that relies upon lysine residues in the KEAP1 dimerization domain to join monomers of KEAP1 together. Oligomerization of KEAP1 by MCB-613 sets into motion a fatal cascade of KEAP1 …
Developing Pattern Recognition And Interpretable Convolutional Neural Network Based Frameworks For Identifying Drug Resistant And Pan Cancer Mirnas From Expression Data, Joginder Jsingh
Doctoral Theses
Micro Ribonucleic Acids (miRNAs) are short length (∼24) non-coding RNAs and are considered as key biomarkers in cancer diagnosis and treatment. They play a vital role in classifying cancer patients from normal ones and drug resistant patients from control ones. The control patients are those who have not received any drug for cancer treatment. The objective is to identify a subset of miRNAs those help in the classification of the patients using expression data. The thesis is comprised of four contributory chapters in addition to an introduction and conclusion. In the first two contributory chapters, computational methods for ranking and …

RNA binding proteins (RBPs) play essential roles in post-transcriptional gene regulation by interacting with a wide range of RNA targets. In addition to regulating RNA processing via individual RBP-RNA interactions, there is a growing appreciation of the regulatory impact of protein-associated RNA-RNA interactions that include both well-studied examples of small regulatory RNAs (e.g. microRNAs, snRNAs, snoRNAs, piRNAs) guiding ribonucleoprotein complexes to their targets as well as structured RNA elements defining the interaction landscape for an RBP. To elucidate the full scope of RBP-RNA interactions, CLIP ( crosslinking and immunoprecipitation)-based methods have emerged as powerful tools. Even with the wide application …

Breast cancer progression is facilitated by the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), generating cancer cells with enhanced metastatic capacity and resistance to chemotherapeutics. The fungus-derived sesterterpenoid natural produce compound, ophiobolin A (OpA), possesses nanomolar cytotoxic activity and a high therapeutic index, although its molecular targets and mechanism of action are not well characterized. Herein, we utilized a model of mammary epithelial cells and breast cancer cell lines with and without EMT features to characterize the mechanism of selectivity towards EMT(+) cells by OpA. Proteins interacting with OpA in EMT(+) cells, including mitochondrial glutathione transporter SLC25A40, were identified through via mass …

Myeloid/lymphoid neoplasms with eosinophilia and tyrosine kinase fusions (M/LN-eo-TK) are uncommon but highly treatable disorders. Among them, FIP1L1::PDGFRA–driven disease is distinguished by marked eosinophilia and multisystem involvement that can rapidly reverse with targeted therapy. We describe a 50-year-old man with uncontrolled diabetes who presented with progressive dyspnea, abdominal discomfort, and painful necrotic scrotal ulcers. Laboratory testing revealed leukocytosis with a striking absolute eosinophil count of 22.1 × 10³/µL, while imaging showed pulmonary infiltrates, small-bowel inflammation, and splenomegaly. Bone marrow examination demonstrated hypercellularity with prominent eosinophilic proliferation. Fluorescence in situ hybridization confirmed a PDGFRA rearrangement with CHIC2 deletion, establishing the diagnosis …

A Case Comment On Cryogas Equipment V. Inox India, Eashan Ghosh
Indian Journal of Law and Technology
Composite claims for copyright and design have long posed conceptual difficulties under Indian law. A pointed attempt by the Supreme Court in Cryogas Equipment v Inox India (‘Cryogas’) to resolve these difficulties, therefore, is of considerable interest.
In this Comment, I examine Cryogas in detail. I find that, despite adopting a schematic approach that is promising on the surface, Cryogas offers little assistance in untangling the constituent portions of copyright-design claims. For one, its test for telling apart artistic works from designs is entirely self-referential and requires a pre-existing understanding of what outputs statutorily constitute ‘artistic works’ and …

Indian Copyright Law In The Age Of Genai: Knowledge/Power, Patchwork, And Peril, Lokesh Vyas, Luca Schirru
Indian Journal of Law and Technology
Isn’t copyright law an analog relic, striving to stay relevant in a digital world and hoping to survive an AI-driven and quantum-coded future? We argue it is. It is a law, born in a world of paper and print, now finding itself (again) patching its foundations to keep pace with generative AI (‘GenAI’). This unruly, still-developing technology not only redefines creative processes but also challenges the very assumptions of authorship, creativity, and copying. While discussions on this technology and copyright law abound, amid all the noise, one question simmers beneath the surface: ‘Is the very way we approach GenAI and …

Low student awareness of the existence, diversity, and importance of plants in daily life—referred to as plant awareness, which includes attention, attitudes, relative interest, and knowledge toward plants—remains a challenge in biology learning, partly due to the limited use of electronic learning media that integrate biodiversity with local wisdom or indigenous knowledge. Traditional medicinal plants from the Museum Pusaka Nias have strong potential as contextual learning resources; however, they have not been optimally developed in electronic form. This study aimed to develop an electronic encyclopedia of Nias traditional medicinal plants for high school biology learning and to examine students' plant …

Eastern Virginia Medical Journal
Chiari networks are anatomical variants that result from incomplete resorption of embryologic tissues and are often discovered incidentally on echocardiography. We describe the case of a large Chiari network we discovered after independent review of the patient’s computed tomography scan showed an unexpected filling defect within the right atrium, prompting further investigation. We also conducted a review of the literature for this anatomic variant of unclear clinical significance.
