Child Poverty Typologies And Protective Factors In Scavenger Communities: Implications For Participatory Social Development Strategies, Debrina Vita Ferezagia, Budiman Mahmud Musthofa

Jurnal Vokasi Indonesia

This study aims to develop a typology of child poverty and identify protective factors that can support the formulation of social development strategies. The research was conducted through a case study in a scavenger settlement area in Jakarta using a qualitative approach, through observations and in-depth interviews. The findings show that child poverty in scavenger communities can be categorized into three main dimensions: material poverty, opportunity poverty, and relational poverty. However, behind these vulnerabilities, several protective factors play a crucial role in sustaining the resilience of both children and the community. In the dimension of material poverty, although children face …

International Review of Humanities Studies

The 2027 French presidential election has become a contest over political legitimacy, and the media play a key role in shaping candidates’ images. Within the right-wing camp, Rassemblement National (RN) presents two potential figures, Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella. Le Pen faces legal threats that could prevent her candidacy, while Bardella is projected as a successor to represent RN in the contest. Drawing on framing theory Pan & Kosicki (1993) and Critical Discourse Analysis Fairclough (1995), this qualitative study investigates right-wing French media preferences between these two candidates. The analysis examines three articles each from Le Figaro and Le …

The Mediating Role Of Trust: How Cultural Factors Shape Consumer Acceptance Of Chinese Electric Vehicles In Jakarta, Indonesia, Suci Kuswardani, Ike Iswary Lawanda

International Review of Humanities Studies

This study examines the mediating role of consumer trust in the relationship between cultural factors and the purchase intention of Chinese Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Jakarta, Indonesia. While global EV adoption is often analyzed through techno-economic lenses, this research addresses a critical gap by investigating the under-explored socio-cultural dimensions that shape consumer behavior in emerging markets. Framed by an integrated theoretical approach combining Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and Reception Theory, the study explores how local cultural values such as collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, and social status filter the acceptance of Chinese EV technology. A qualitative case study …

Unpacking The Impact Of Screen Time On Attention And Focus On Elementary Students In Elizabeth, Nj, Gabriela M. Rivera, Shanique Coombs

The Kean Review: Journal in Student Research

As digital technology becomes more embedded in everyday life, concerns have grown on how it can impact children’s cognitive development. This study explores how screen time influences attention span and focuses on elementary school students in Elizabeth, NJ. Research was conducted utilizing a quantitative method. Exactly 20 parents of elementary school students voluntarily filled out a Microsoft Forms questionnaire. The data suggests a strong correlation between excessive screen time and a decrease in focusing abilities, especially in an academic setting. These results highlight a need for limits on screen exposure among children to promote proper cognitive development and overall well-being.

Discouragement Of Men's Display Of Emotions In Western Culture, Kevin C. Modeszto Jan 2026

Discouragement Of Men's Display Of Emotions In Western Culture, Kevin C. Modeszto

The Kean Review: Journal in Student Research

In Western culture, there are different expectations for handling emotions based on gender. Women are encouraged to show their emotions, while men are heavily discouraged from showing them. There is no difference between genders as babies in terms of showing emotion, but the difference is significant by as early as middle childhood. However, as demonstrated in a study with 68 responses dominated by people between the ages of 18-21, this trend is slowly dissipating.

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research

In 2024, an estimated 100,640 new cases of invasive melanoma were diagnosed in the U.S., with 9290 deaths. Our previous studies revealed that neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) derived nitric oxide plays a critical role in melanoma progression, making nNOS inhibition a promising strategy. High structural similarity among NOS isoforms requires careful design of nNOS inhibitors to avoid off-target effects. Our previous lead, HH044, demonstrated potent antimelanoma activity but exhibited only moderate nNOS selectivity. Here, we utilized a structure-based approach to design nNOS inhibitors that promote interactions with human nNOS-specific residue His342. Compound 9 exhibited inhibition of both human ( …

Solitary Interiority In Hong Kong Public Spaces, Xia Bi, Kin Wai Michael Siu, Rosina Yuan Jan 2026

Solitary Interiority In Hong Kong Public Spaces, Xia Bi, Kin Wai Michael Siu, Rosina Yuan

Interiority

Hong Kong's dense urban environment, constrained housing, and relentless tempo of everyday life create a context in which solitude is both scarce and valued. This article develops the concept of solitary interiority to capture how moments of solitude in public space generate interiority as a relational condition through the interplay of bodies, atmospheres, and cultural norms. Drawing on ethnographic interviews and multisensory experiential reflection, the article demonstrates how solitary interiority arises from the blurring of boundaries between the domestic and the urban, the self and others, and the private and the public. Individuals extend certain home-like qualities into public spaces, …

Space Modification In One-Bedroom-Plus Units For Generation Y In Bangkok, Thanakorn Taraka

Interiority

This study examines space modification in one-bedroom-plus condominium units in Bangkok, focusing on the relationship between Generation Y’s characteristics and how they adapt interior layouts to suit their lifestyles. While previous research has addressed flexible housing in general, few studies have focused specifically on how Generation Y modifies space within condominium units to accommodate their needs in the Bangkok context. The study analysed 7,596 one-bedroom-plus units developed in Bangkok and modified by 44 architectural stakeholders to reflect Generation Y's preferences. Using function, partition, and floor indicators, and applying k-means cluster analysis, six spatial modification approaches were identified: open-space layouts, functional …

Neuroscience And Humanism In Norman Foster's Architecture, Francisco Javier Lahuerta Ferris, Bartolomé Serra Soriano Jan 2026

Neuroscience And Humanism In Norman Foster's Architecture, Francisco Javier Lahuerta Ferris, Bartolomé Serra Soriano

Interiority

The work of Norman Foster, often labelled as 'high-tech,' is renowned for its structural expressionism and technological rationalism. However, it is grounded in the conception of a unified whole in which science, technology, and the humanities are inseparable facets that shape both human beings and the spaces they design and inhabit. This article analyses the correlations between the new paradigms established by neuroscience and the design principles of Foster's architecture: the integral conception of reality, optimisation, and energy balance (homeostasis) as survival factors guiding decisions, and the role of perception, emotions, and feelings in the creation and evaluation of architectural …

Architecturally Be Kind: Exploring The Effect Of Prison Interiors On Autistic Inmates, Julie E. N. Irish, Gregory Galford

Interiority

How the interior environment affects autistic people has been studied in settings such as education and healthcare. However, significant work has not been done in evaluating the effect of prison interiors on autistic inmates who may be hypersensitive, especially to light and sound. The purpose of this study was to determine how autistic inmates cope in a noisy, crowded environment that is not designed for them and that they cannot control. This qualitative research used grounded theory to interview five autistic inmates at a medium-security state prison for men in the US to find out their lived experience in prison. …

The Effectiveness Of Neurofeedback Therapy In Improving Behavior, Emotion Regulation, And Attention Of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Istiarsyah Istiarsyah, Mariyani Mariyani, Roslaini Roslaini, Nazla Khairina, Shin Yeen Shiw

Journal of ICSAR

This study investigated the effectiveness of neurofeedback therapy in improving behavior, emotion regulation, and attention in a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Neurofeedback, a non-invasive technique that enables individuals to regulate their own brain activity, has shown promise in neurodevelopmental interventions, but evidence from intensive training in special education contexts remains limited. A single-case experimental design (A-B-A) was employed with one child diagnosed with ASD who received 36 neurofeedback sessions over three months. The training targeted brainwave regulation associated with attention and emotional control. Outcomes were assessed through standardized behavioral checklists, emotion regulation scales, attention performance tests, and electroencephalographic …

The Influence Of Transformational Leadership, Achievement Motivation, And Organizational Culture On Teachers’ Learning Innovation: A Quantitative Study In Public Senior High Schools, Dewi Nur Cahyaningrum, Yovitha Yulijantiningsih, Supriyono Supriyono

Journal of ICSAR

This study analyzes the influence of transformational leadership, achievement motivation, and organizational culture on teachers’ learning innovation in public senior high schools in Jepara Regency. Using a quantitative survey involving 215 teachers, multiple regression analysis was employed to examine both partial and simultaneous effects. The results show that transformational leadership (β = 0.421; p < 0.001), achievement motivation (β = 0.367; p < 0.001), and organizational culture (β = 0.298; p < 0.001) significantly affect teachers’ learning innovation. Collectively, the three variables explain a substantial proportion of variance in learning innovation (R² = 0.612). In this study, learning innovation is defined to include inclusive teaching practices, the use of accessible digital tools, differentiated instruction, and adaptive strategies that support students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities. The findings therefore highlight that pedagogical innovation does not only involve creativity and technology integration but also the development of equitable and disability-responsive learning environments. The study underscores that inclusive learning innovation emerges from the synergy of strong transformational leadership, high teacher motivation, and a school culture committed to accessibility and collaboration. These findings provide important implications for educational leaders and policymakers, calling for the strengthening of inclusive leadership capacity, the cultivation of disability-sensitive school cultures, and the enhancement of teacher motivation to promote equitable instructional reform.

Journal of ICSAR

Religious character education for elementary school students has become a fundamental necessity in responding to increasingly complex social changes. This study aims to describe and analyze the religious character of third-grade elementary school students in Tasikmalaya by considering the diversity of children’s characteristics as the main analytical lens. In this study, such diversity includes differences in emotional regulation, learning styles, levels of independence, and social tendencies among students; however, it does not specifically focus on disabilities or particular special educational needs. Therefore, the findings are situated within the context of mainstream education. Nevertheless, the findings remain relevant to inclusive education …

A Communication-Process-Centered (Cpc) Approach To Intercultural Communication Education, Yanrong (Yvonne) Chang, Dora E. Saavedra

Communication Faculty Publications

Purpose: In response to a call to seek renewed purpose and new conceptualizations for intercultural communication education (ICE) (Dervin and Tournebise, 2013), the purpose of this conceptual paper is to critiquee limited traditional models of ICE and to propose, explain and argue for a communication-process-centered (CPC) approach to the field. The proposed CPC framework emphasizes dynamic conceptualizations of culture, identity, and interaction as fluid processes rather than static traits.

Design/methodology/approach: The paper describes anticipated learning outcomes of the CPC approach and advocates for the use of ethnographic methods in classroom teaching. It provides practical ways for applying these methods …
