The Impacts Of Emotions On Thirst Among Heart Failure Patients, Chieh-An Yang, Hsing-Mei Chen, Tsung-Neng Tsai, Chieh-Yu Liu, Hui-Ju Lu, Ting-Ti Lin
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Purpose: Thirst, characterized by sensations of oral dryness and a craving to drink, is a ubiquitous experience among heart failure (HF) patients. Besides reduced cardiac output, the clinical treatments for HF patients (e.g., diuretics, fluid restriction) may activate the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), exacerbating their thirst distress.
Negative emotions are commonly experienced among heart failure patients. Previous studies have suggested that emotions (e.g., anxiety, depression) may activate the sympathetic nervous system, reducing the secretion of saliva, which, in turn, may increase sensations of dry mouth among HF patients. However, the relationship between emotions and thirst distress remains unclear. Therefore, the aim …

Development And Evaluation Of An Llm Based Nursing Documentation, Sumi Sung, Hyeyoung Lee, Wooje Sung, Do Yeon Kim, Jung Eun Hong, Yewon Lee, Seung Hee Lee
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Background: Accurate nursing documentation is essential for communicating patient status and ensuring patient safety. However, heavy workloads and non-standard terminology often lead to omissions and errors. Large language models (LLMs) show promise in supporting nursing documentation, but hallucinations raise safety concerns. To mitigate these risks, we adopted a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) approach that grounds responses in standard nursing terminologies [1]. This study aimed to develop and evaluate an RAG-based chatbot that supports nursing documentation using standard terminology and procedures.
Methods: From January 2022 to May 2024, we analyzed 70,926 unstructured nursing narratives from 76 patients with myocardial infarction who underwent …

Staff Education To Enhance Clinical Staff Knowledge Of Medication Adherence Strategies In Bipolar Disorder, George Niyi Ojewale
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Medication nonadherence in bipolar disorder is a significant contributor to relapse, hospitalization, and functional decline. This doctor of nursing practice (DNP) staff education project addressed a practice gap at the project site involving inconsistent clinician knowledge and absence of a standardized approach to adherence education. The practice-focused question for this project was: How does implementing an evidence-based staff educational program improve clinical staff knowledge in supporting medication adherence in patients with bipolar disorder? The purpose of this project was to implement a structured, evidence-based educational intervention to improve clinician knowledge related to medication adherence strategies. The intervention consisted of a …
Electrical Leaders’ Effective Strategies To Reduce Workplace Fatalities And Injuries, Amy Clark
Electrical Leaders’ Effective Strategies To Reduce Workplace Fatalities And Injuries, Amy Clark
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Workplace electrical safety programs help reduce injuries and fatalities, yet some U.S. electrical leaders who manage safety programs and oversee safety issues lack effective strategies to sustain safe environments to reduce electrical accidents. Grounded in Heinrich’s incident/accident pyramid theory and behavior-based safety theory, this qualitative pragmatic inquiry explored strategies used by six electrical leaders who successfully reduced workplace incidents. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and document analysis and analyzed using Castleberry and Nolen’s inductive thematic approach. Key themes included hazard identification, controls, personal protective equipment and inspections, common challenges (time, resistance, complacency), communication and engagement, safety culture and leadership, …

Workplace Loneliness And The Impact Of Social Connections In Distributed Teams, Belkys Stallings
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Workplace loneliness is a growing organizational challenge as the rise of distributed teams reshapes opportunities for social connection and engagement. Business leaders need to understand this challenge because it is associated with reduced belonging, lower job satisfaction, diminished productivity, and increased turnover intentions. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the extent to which distributed team environments (remote, hybrid, or flexible) impacted workplace loneliness and whether social connectedness moderated this relationship. Social exchange theory, self-determination theory, and Weiss’s concept of loneliness grounded this study. The participants comprised 84 adults working full-time in distributed team environments across the …

Socioeconomic Determinants Of Malaria Infection Among Pregnant Women In Cameroon, Sub-Saharan Africa, Arnold Akosah Muluh
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Malaria during pregnancy is a significant public health issue in Cameroon, affecting maternal health and birth outcomes. Despite preventive measures, disparities exist among socioeconomic groups and between urban and rural areas. The study was guided by the social-ecological model and explored how socioeconomic factors and geographic location influence malaria infection in pregnant women. Specifically, the impact of wealth index, maternal education, and healthcare access on infection rates, considering maternal age, parity, and residence, was examined. Quantitative data from the Cameroon DHS Phase 8 were used (N=1204). The sample included pregnant women with valid malaria test results. Chi-Square tests and binary …

West Nile virus (WNV) is an uncommon but serious case of encephalitis and meningitis, often presenting with nonspecific symptoms that can mimic a wide range of infectious, metabolic, and endocrine disorders. We present the case of a 61-year-old male with multiple comorbidities who arrived with 5 days of fever, chills, profuse diarrhea, black stools, and worsening confusion. Initial evaluation in the emergency department revealed hyponatremia, transaminitis, and concern for tick-borne illness, prompting empiric doxycycline. However, the patient denied any tick bites. Given his known thyroid nodule and Burch-Wartofsky screening score of 70, he was empirically treated for thyroid storm despite …

Indolent pulmonary adenocarcinoma spectrum lesions can remain radiographically stable for years and often demonstrate little to no fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake on positron emission tomography (PET), making diagnosis and management challenging. We report the case of a 74-year-old Caucasian woman with a remote five-year smoking history and a strong family history of lung cancer who was followed for a persistent right upper lobe ground-glass pulmonary nodule. Despite gradual enlargement, PET imaging performed seven years later demonstrated no significant FDG uptake. Serial computed tomography (CT) scans over the following years showed slow progression from a pure ground-glass nodule to a mixed ground-glass …

Diabetic keratopathy (DK) is characterized by delayed corneal wound healing in diabetes, and recent studies have linked this defect to impaired mitochondrial respiration and reduced peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPARα) signaling in the corneal epithelium. The PPARα agonist fenofibrate (Feno) has shown therapeutic potential in diabetic corneal disease, but prior topical and oral approaches still face formulation and translational limitations. In this study, we developed a Feno-loaded microemulsion (Feno microemulsion) eyedrop to improve drug solubility, precorneal residence, and ocular bioavailability of Feno for the treatment of DK. Potential excipients were first screened in primary human corneal epithelial cells (HCECs) to identify …

Loss of phase-locked loop (PLL) lock during CubeSat tracking can simultaneously eliminate both telemetry and Doppler observables, leaving operators blind during critical mission phases. While closed-loop receivers provide high-precision tracking under nominal conditions, they remain vulnerable to low signal-to-noise ratio, rapid Doppler dynamics, oscillator instability, and modeling errors. This single-point failure mode reduces operator situational awareness precisely when it is most needed. This work presents a dual-acquisition architecture that eliminates single point failure in CubeSat ground tracking. Implemented at DSS-17, Morehead State University's 21-meter deep-space antenna, the system pairs a conventional closed-loop modem with a parallel open-loop receiver implemented on …

Ethical Considerations In Cosmetic Dentistry
Ethical Considerations In Cosmetic Dentistry
Journal IDA
Dentistry is both an art and a science. Patient care revolves around treatment for pain, missing teeth while also ensuring that appearances or the esthetic outcomes are maintained or enhanced. These two facets are not contradictory, but are intertwined for optimal, complete and customizable care for each patient. Dentists are often faced with requests from patients for a stereotypical “perfect” smile, which includes perfectly aligned teeth that are white in color resembling the image commonly conveyed by the media. As clinicians, we respond in our own way to these increasingly demanding esthetic demands. Some specialize in developing “esthetic” treatments; others …
