Opinions and practices regarding face masks (FM) to attenuate COVID-19’s spread remains polarized across the United States. We examined whether these attitudes extend to the aviation collegiate community. A 14-question survey was sent to 90 aviation colleges and universities throughout the country. Responses were solicited from students, faculty, and staff. Of the 598 respondents, 77% were students, 13% were faculty, and 10% were staff. Pilots comprised 66% of the respondents. A Principal Component Analysis reduced the questions to two scales: Benefits and Inconvenience. Females, non-pilots, and older respondents reported greater benefits to wearing a FM and fewer inconveniences. A multiple …

The Great Divide On Vulnerability: Dating Applications Vs. Reality, Joseph Adams
Discovery Day - Daytona Beach
Many turn to technology for self-expression as they connect with others with the same values. Unfortunately, many people lose their self-expression skills in the non-digital world and communicate their intimate intents with others through dating applications like Hinge. However, dating apps (like the one mentioned) are scientifically proven to cause users psychological distress, anxiety, depression, or self-image issues. Though we cannot change people’s communicational customs, we can discover ways to close the gap between the digital and real-world when verbalizing intimate feelings. My method for collecting results includes taking a qualitative analysis through creating a survey that will decipher the …

Lithium-ion batteries have widespread and varied use in modern technology, but are susceptible to degradation. This degradation cannot be avoided due to the mechanism these batteries use to charge and discharge, and because of this the accurate prediction of battery life is a valuable asset; especially when they are critical components of equipment. This task is made difficult due to the diversity present in operating conditions and charging cycle conditions produced by real-world usage of these batteries. Using real-time data collected from 10 flights of three separate Cessna C-700 aircraft, we develop a meaningful prediction model to improve the reliability …
