An In-Depth Review Of Alec 480: Senior Capstone In Agricultural & Environmental Sciences Communication (Aesc), Laura E. Young
UNL Faculty Course Portfolios
This portfolio reviews ALEC 480, the undergraduate senior capstone course for Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Communication (AESC) majors in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication (ALEC). The goal of ALEC 480 is to provide a culminating experience for AESC majors that incorporates all learning outcomes for the AESC program. During this course, students investigate topics identified by the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) as critical to the state of Nebraska. Once identified, students then conduct interviews with researchers and Nebraska Extension educators and write, edit, design, and assist in the production of print and multimedia versions …

First Portfolio: Introduction To Psychology (Psych 181), Chelsea A. Witt
UNL Faculty Course Portfolios
This course portfolio analyzed student learning in Introduction to Psychology, Psych 181 at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. This course is often taken by first year students of various backgrounds and majors; this course is a pre-requisite for many other psychology courses. In general, the course covers basic psychological concepts in the realm of biopsychology, developmental psychology, social and personality psychology, cognitive psychology, and clinical psychology. Student enrollment for this section is capped at 200. This portfolio outlines my course goal, objectives, and assessments of those goals. There is also a reflection throughout regarding how well students feel supported and …

Benchmark Portfolio For Asci 451/851: Livestock On Range And Pasture, Fall 2021, Kacie L. Mccarthy
UNL Faculty Course Portfolios
The aim of this portfolio is twofold: first, the portfolio serves to provide a means for the author to reflect on and improve their approach to teaching an ACE 10 course. The Livestock on Range and Pasture course (ASCI 451/851) serves seniors and graduate students with a major and/or minor in Animal Science, Grazing Livestock Systems, Agronomy and Horticulture, or Range. Since taking over the course, the last two semesters have included students primarily from Animal Science or Agribusiness with a major or minor in Grazing Livestock Systems, respectively. This Peer Review of Teaching project evaluated student feedback from the …
Investigating Student Learning And Assessment Through Group Projects In Cyaf 382: Working With Parents, Patty Kuo
UNL Faculty Course Portfolios
This course portfolio for CYAF 382: Working with Parents systematically documents its course structure, assessments, and grading. The documentation and reflection process occurred across two consecutive semesters of teaching this course. I analyzed student class performance as a function of peer evaluations and attendance. Students who had fewer unexcused absences had higher exam scores and overall course grades. Interestingly, group project grades were higher when group members had greater variance among individual effort ratings – reflecting an imbalance of group effort. I conclude the portfolio with my reflections derived from both the portfolio process and student evaluations.

The goal of the course is to allow students to put in practice some basic food science principles and work with their cohort. This portfolio outlines the changes made to this course, the rationale for embedding lectures and assessments in scientific communication. The specific skills and topics I aimed to teach …

Obstetrics and Gynaecology, East Africa
While facility births are increasing in many low-resource settings, quality of care often does not follow suit; maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity remain unacceptably high. Therefore, realistic, context-tailored clinical support is crucially needed to assist birth attendants in resource-constrained realities to provide best possible evidence-based and respectful care. Our pilot study in Zanzibar suggested that co-created clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and low-dose, high-frequency training (PartoMa intervention) were associated with improved childbirth care and survival. We now aim to modify, implement, and evaluate this multi-faceted intervention in five high-volume, urban maternity units in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (approximately 60,000 births …

Obstetrics and Gynaecology, East Africa
Heterotopic pregnancy is rare. We report a 27-year-old lady with polycystic ovarian disease. She presented at our health facility with acute abdomen. Her evaluation revealed heterotopic pregnancy. High index of suspicion for heterotopic pregnancy in any woman with early pregnancy presenting with acute abdomen is crucial. Therefore, correct and early diagnosis allows appropriate management while it preserves the intrauterine pregnancy as in the index case.

Aba Model Rule 8.4(G), Discriminatory Speech, And The First Amendment, Bruce Green, Rebecca Roiphe
Aba Model Rule 8.4(G), Discriminatory Speech, And The First Amendment, Bruce Green, Rebecca Roiphe
Articles & Chapters
The ABA adopted Model Rule 8.4(g), which targets certain speech and conduct that are based on “race, sex, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status or socioeconomic status.” In particular, according to the accompanying comment, Rule 8.4(g) reaches speech that is “derogatory and demeaning” or that “manifests bias or prejudice towards others” and is “harmful” (including, presumably, emotionally harmful). This rule targets a significant amount of speech that would be constitutionally protected if it were uttered by a nonlawyer. This article argues that there is no justification for treating lawyers differently from others in many …

The Never-Ending Struggle For Reproductive Rights, Stephanie Toti
Michigan Law Review
For me, the annual Book Review issue is a time for reflection. It provides an opportunity to take stock of scholarly trends, reassess conventional wisdom, and gather new insights to apply to the practice of law. The reviews contained in this year’s issue address a wide range of subjects, including the history of public defenders, the use of bigotry rhetoric in conflicts over marriage and civil rights law, the role of cost-benefit analysis in federal policymaking, and racial inequities in tax policy. This impressive commentary on an astute and varied collection of books about the law will inspire many of …
