LMU Theses and Dissertations
The focus of this thesis is to explore “the inner spiritual architecture” (prāṇa, nāḍī, cakra) through the lens of the pañcamayakośa model concerning raising kuṇḍalinī. We will discuss how the components of the “spiritual architecture” are directly influenced by four select techniques (mula bandhā uḍḍīyāna bandhā, jālandhara bandhā, and mahabandā). These are known as bandhās/mudras, which are specific to The Medieval Transformation for raising kuṇḍalinī. Our focus will explore the mechanics of the bandhās and the recorded, effects.
The thesis’s secondary focus is cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Under the traditional lens of the pañcamayakośa model, a comparison will be made between …

Counselor Education and Human Services Faculty Publications
The University of Dayton (UD) developed a Behavioral Health Workforce and Education Training (BHWET) program in response to a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) call for proposals. The university was awarded $1.92 million across four years to provide interprofessional education and practice (IPEP) opportunities to students in four of their graduate programs: school psychology, clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and clinical psychology. This collaborative training initiative emphasizes interprofessional training and education for students, faculty, staff, and community partners. The BHWET program encompasses three primary goals: 1) increase access to healthcare services for underserved youth populations; 2) address sparsity …

Radiation Oncology Meeting Abstracts
Purpose/Objective(s): Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) activation is associated with increased production of interleukin 6 (IL6), which is intensified by radiotherapy (RT) induced inflammatory response. Elevated IL6 levels promote RT-induced anemia by upregulating hepcidin causing functional iron deficiency. Cetuximab, an EGFR inhibitor, resulted in significantly lower rates of RT induced anemia for locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients receiving definitive RT vs RT-alone according to Bonner et al; and other studies compared to concomitant chemotherapy. However, little is known for cases receiving cetuximab with RT in the adjuvant setting.
Materials/Methods: We queried our institutional HNSCC database …
Bridging The Gap: A Guided Journey Engaging The Christian Faith Across Generations, Chad Ibach
Bridging The Gap: A Guided Journey Engaging The Christian Faith Across Generations, Chad Ibach
Doctor of Ministry
The need that is addressed through this project portfolio is the recognition that there is a lack of space for intergenerational relationships and conversations around spirituality and the Christian faith to occur between older generations and Generation Z specifically. As we look at the church today, we are seeing many different gaps occurring between generations, these two in particular. The focus of this project portfolio is to address this problem of the generational gaps within the church in hopes of creating long-lasting intergenerational relationships. The problem is addressed by gathering individuals from different generations and taking them through a sixmonth …
Cellular Dynamics And Disease Outcome Of Type 3 Streptococcus Pneumoniae Clinical Isolates Differ Between Strains, Taylor Rae Plunkett White
Cellular Dynamics And Disease Outcome Of Type 3 Streptococcus Pneumoniae Clinical Isolates Differ Between Strains, Taylor Rae Plunkett White
Theses and Dissertations (ETD)
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a bacterial pathogen that continues to be a major cause of disease around the world. It is not only the number one cause of bacterial pneumonia but also the cause of about 15% of the deaths of children under 5 around the world. There is a lot of research done on this organism, but with around 100 known serotypes and each one producing a unique capsule, there is still much more to be studied. The Etiology of Pneumonia in the Community (EPIC) study conducted by the CDC observed the burden of hospitalizations caused by pneumonia while determining …
How Pornography Consumption Affects The Consumer And A Biblical Response To The Temptations Of Modern Sexuality, Peyton Mayes
How Pornography Consumption Affects The Consumer And A Biblical Response To The Temptations Of Modern Sexuality, Peyton Mayes
Senior Honors Theses
It has been shown that 93% of boys and 62% girls prior to age 13 have been exposed to pornography (Sabina et al., 2008). Only in the last decade has the ability to view sexual content been made available to almost all groups of society, regardless of wealth or social status. This paper will address this issue by reviewing literature on the neuropathology, sexual dysfunctions, and violent content associated with pornography consumption. Although a significant amount of research has been done on the impacts of pornography, there is relatively little discussion on possible interventional methods. This gap in knowledge will …
The Walls That Define Us, Kaitlyn C. Nielson
The Walls That Define Us, Kaitlyn C. Nielson
Criterion: A Journal of Literary Criticism
Herman Melville’s short story “Bartleby the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street” tells the story of Bartleby, a man living in the lower-class of nineteenth century New York City, who secures a job copying legal documents. Unlike the other employees’ eagerness to work, Bartleby remains behind his “green screen” that demarcates his office space and repeatedly responds “I would prefer not to” when asked to complete a task.
Most readers and critics alike interpret Bartleby’s behavior as a mode of passive resistance against his boss and the larger institutions of Wall Street and capitalism. However, through close reading, I instead …

The Sublethal Response Of Cambarus Sp. To Acute Low Dose Herbicide Exposure Evidenced By A Change In Ggt Levels And Apoptosis, Amelia Wickham
Senior Honors Theses
Following application, herbicidal runoff can collect in freshwater ecosystems, briefly exposing non-target organisms. As biological indicators, crayfish serve as models to assess freshwater health. Chemically stressed crayfish form reactive oxygen species (ROS) which are neutralized by the glutathione pathway. As glutathione depletes, γ-glutamyl-transferase (GGT) upregulates to increase glutathione formation. High oxidative stress lowers glutathione levels and subsequent apoptosis occurs. For this acute study, crayfish were exposed to 5ppb and 50ppb of atrazine, glyphosate, and 2,4-D. Herbicide exposures were expected to induce higher GGT production, increased oxidative stress, and increased apoptosis. Instead, GGT and apoptosis predominately decreased relative to the control. …
A Literature Review Of The Prevalence, Metabolism, And Usage Guidelines Of Non-Nutritive Sweeteners, Rebecca Ide
A Literature Review Of The Prevalence, Metabolism, And Usage Guidelines Of Non-Nutritive Sweeteners, Rebecca Ide
Senior Honors Theses
Due to their reputation for being a healthier option to traditional table sugar, non-nutritive sweeteners have garnered popularity, particularly with those affected by type II diabetes mellitus (DM2) or obesity. A literature review on the characteristics, metabolism, and optimal cooking guidelines of non-nutritive sweeteners was performed to establish more knowledge about these trending food additives. The literature review indicates that the presence of non-nutritive sweeteners (NNS) may influence glucose metabolism by binding T1R2/T1R3 sweetness receptors present throughout the gastrointestinal tract. However, not all studies showed positive correlations. Though inconclusive, the studies suggest a possible connection between excessive NNS consumption and …

The Acorn Squash Problem: A Digestible Conceptualisation Of Barriers To Emergency Food Assistance, John C. Jones, Joanne Christaldi, Diana Cuy Castellanos
Nutrition Faculty Publications
Background: In common narratives of emergency food assistance, donors likely believe their efforts directly manifest as people consuming their donated food. For example, a person donating canned lima beans during a canned food drive may visualise someone eventually eating those lima beans. However, cultural and socio-economic barriers often exist that prevent people from accessing and consuming the donated food. These barriers are often complex and otherwise well-intentioned donors, volunteers and organisations may not initially consider them.
Method: This commentary article, which draws from existing US emergency food systems literature, uses the imagery of an acorn squash one might find at …

Vaccine Hesitancy In The Post-Covid-19 Era: An Interdisciplinary Approach For A Trust-And-Risk Paradigm With Governmental And Intergovernmental Implications, Laurent Cleenewerck De Kiev, Danny A. Schieffler
Healthcare Informatics Faculty Publications
Vaccine hesitancy was described as a major global health challenge by the World Health Organization before the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic (Ten Health Issues WHO Will Tackle This Year, 2019).
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the introduction of several new vaccines (notably Pfizer, Moderna, J&J) and with them new vaccine technologies (mRNA) under emergency use authorization (EUA), combined with the political context of these vaccines’ accelerated development, triggered a heightened level of vaccine hesitancy and refusal in the United States and around the world (FDA, 2021).
This paper study undertakes to investigate the foundations and recent evolution of this phenomenon …

In the summer of 2013, Susan Hill and Amy Burnett exchanged wedding rings in North Carolina. Though same-sex marriage was not yet legal in most states (North Carolina included), Hill and Burnett moved forward to live together as spouses and began making plans to grow their family. Later in 2013, Burnett began trying to become pregnant. Both women contributed to the cost of the procedures designed to promote pregnancy and, in 2014, Burnett became pregnant with twin girls.
During Burnett’s pregnancy, Hill attended birthing classes, purchased items for the nursery, and took part in other sundry tasks that ordinarily precede …
An Analysis Of The Psychological And Physical Effects Of A Physical Activity Program During In-Patient Pediatric Cancer Treatment, Zoë Winters
Undergraduate Theses
There is limited published research regarding the use of physical activity in cancer treatment programs, and even fewer in pediatric treatment plans; however, there is a common consensus that following the conclusion of cancer treatment an individual’s physical fitness has been majorly impacted. The inactivity that commonly coexists with cancer treatment often results in extended periods of time in rehabilitation programs and decreased independence. Along with the physical detriments caused by inactivity, increased dependence on others often brings about feelings of helplessness that can further cause emotional detriments. It has however been demonstrated in previous research that adding physical activity …

The Predictive Power Of The Term Spread On Inequality In The United Kingdom: An Empirical Analysis, Mehmet Balcilar, Edmond Berisha, Oğuzhan Çepni, Rangan Gupta
Department of Economics Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
A common tool in forecasting literature used in predicting future economic conditions is the term spread, which tends to contract near peaks and rise near troughs. Building on this known relationship, this paper explores the predictive power of the yield spread on the distribution of income in the United Kingdom (UK). The results reveal that income inequality responds negatively to increases in the yield spread over the medium-term. Specifically, we show that the term spread can help to predict UK's income inequality growth both in- and out-of-sample. Our empirical findings show that it is the expected component of the term …
