Management Of Severe Localized Periodontal Destruction Associated With A Cemental Defect: A Case Report, Nik Madihah Nik Azis, Nurulhuda Mohd
Management Of Severe Localized Periodontal Destruction Associated With A Cemental Defect: A Case Report, Nik Madihah Nik Azis, Nurulhuda Mohd
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
This case involved the management of a possible cemental tear, which resulted in poor response to nonsurgical periodontal therapy. This case was managed by exploratory surgery, along with the intention to surgically reduce the periodontal pocket. Exploratory surgery revealed a localized cemental defect. The periodontium healed with pocket closure after exploratory surgery and open-flap debridement. The difficulty in clinically diagnosing a localized periodontal destruction and the lack of consensus on managing these cases were highlighted. The possibility of an undiagnosed cemental defect in a tooth with localized periodontitis should be considered in cases not responding to periodontal therapy.

Confocal Raman microscopy (CRM) has become a versatile technique that can be applied routinely to monitor skin penetration of active molecules. In the present study, CRM coupled to multivariate analysis (namely PLSR—partial least squares regression) is used for the quantitative measurement of an active ingredient (AI) applied to isolated (ex vivo) human stratum corneum (SC), using systematically varied doses of resorcinol, as model compound, and the performance is quantified according to key figures of merit defined by regulatory bodies (ICH, FDA, and EMA). A methodology is thus demonstrated to establish the limit of detection (LOD), precision, accuracy, sensitivity (SEN), and …
Increasing The Prevalence Of Risky Play In Preschool And Kindergarten Classrooms In The United States, Kelsey Stark Zuiderveen
Increasing The Prevalence Of Risky Play In Preschool And Kindergarten Classrooms In The United States, Kelsey Stark Zuiderveen
Masters Projects
Risky play is a thrilling form of play that has the potential for some injury and is a biologically innate need within all children that provides a variety of physical, mental, and emotional benefits to children. Currently however, preschool and kindergarten classrooms in the United States offer little to no opportunities for risky play in early childhood settings. The main factor that influences the amount of risky play happening in early childhood classrooms is teacher attitudes related to risky play; if teachers have a negative attitude about risky play, less risky play is allowed in their classroom setting. This project …

Indonesia Law Review
The presence of foreigners in Indonesia for a long period certainly requires a place to live or a residential house. According to Article 144 (1) b of Job Creation Law, foreigners have the right to own flat units in Indonesia. Is this regulation intended to attract foreign investors? If it is yes, does not it contradictory to the “kenasionalan” principle stipulated in the Basic Agrarian Law (BAL) and other Indonesian regulations? This study is aimed to deal with those legal issues, by using the normative legal method. The result shows that the ownership right of flat units given to foreigners …

Identifying The Protein That Mediates Sr1848'S Inhibition Of Lrh-1 Target Gene Expression, Allen Chan-Pong
Harriet L Wilkes Honors College Theses 2020 - Present
This project investigated the nuclear receptor LRH-1, which is primarily present in endodermal tissues. It affects several pathways such as lipid synthesis, glucose homeostasis, and embryonic development. However, LRH-1 is also often implicated in several cancers. In many types, tumorigenesis occurs due to LRH-1’s upregulation of the WNT/beta-catenin pathway, which promotes cell cycle progression. LRH-1 also promotes cancer proliferation by downregulating the cell cycle inhibitor p21. Targeting LRH-1 thus shows promise for treatment of the cancers it promotes. The small molecule SR1848 is an inhibitor of LRH-1 target gene expression, but it does not directly interact with LRH-1. This project …

Novel Context Exposure Enhances Object Recognition Memory: Assessing Involvement Of Norepinephrine Neurotransmission, Eleonora Lurie
Harriet L Wilkes Honors College Theses 2020 - Present
Long-term memories are encoded within the hippocampus, but some are quickly forgotten. Brief exposure of mice to a novel context following encoding of object memory significantly enhances consolidation of the object memory. The memory-enhancing effect of post-training novelty may rely on locus coeruleus tyrosine-hydroxylase expressing neurons which co-release norepinephrine and dopamine in the hippocampus. To test the contribution of norepinephrine to this novelty effect, mice received propranolol, a synthetic beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist (10 mg/kg), to block norepinephrine or 0.9% saline as a control post-training. Pre-novel context exposure and object memory was tested 24 hr later. Results revealed that propranolol did …

Retinal disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa, age-related retinal degeneration, oxygen-induced retinopathy, and ischemia-reperfusion injury cause debilitating and irreversible vision loss. While the exact mechanisms underlying these conditions remain unclear, there has been a growing body of evidence demonstrating the pathological contributions of oxidative stress across different cell types within the eye. Nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor (Nrf2), a transcriptional activator of antioxidative genes, and its regulator Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) have emerged as promising therapeutic targets. The purpose of this review is to understand the protective role of the Nrf2-Keap1 pathway in different retinal tissues and shed light on the …

Harvester ants often selectively forage seeds, causing these ants to be viewed as pests in agricultural areas where they may forage on crop seeds. While little research has been done on harvester ant preferences for cover crop seeds, grower observations in the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) suggest that ants may remove these seeds before germination. We examined red harvester ant (Pogonomyrmex barbatus F. Smith) preferences for cover crop seeds (fescue, oat, sunn hemp, radish, vetch, and wheatgrass) and the effects of a commonly used bacterial seed inoculant. We evaluated relative preferences using seed depots presented to colonies with no …

Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common heritable cardiomyopathy and can predispose individuals to sudden death. Most pediatric HCM patients host a known pathogenic variant in a sarcomeric gene. With the increase in exome sequencing (ES) in clinical settings, incidental variants in HCM-associated genes are being identified more frequently. Diagnostic interpretation of incidental variants is crucial to enhance clinical patient management. We sought to use amino acid-level signal-to-noise (S:N) analysis to establish pathogenic hotspots in sarcomeric HCM-associated genes as well as to refine the 2015 American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) criteria to predict incidental variant pathogenicity.
