Background: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are commonly prescribed to children and adolescents with anxiety and depression. However, their clinical use is complicated by marked interindividual variability in exposure, which contributes to differences in treatment response and side effects. Further, SSRIs are commonly dosed using a trial-and-error approach. Model-informed precision dosing could improve treatment outcomes, yet existing SSRI population pharmacokinetic (PK) models have not been prospectively validated and may not generalize to pediatric patients. This study aims to evaluate how accurately these models predict exposure for three SSRIs—escitalopram (ESC), sertraline (SRT), and fluoxetine (FLX)—and refine them to develop tools for …

Comparison Of Agar-Based Methodologies To Broth Disc Elution For The Detection Of Aztreonam Susceptibility In The Presence Of Ceftazidime-Avibactam, Teslin Sandstrom, Andra Banete, Alice Kanyua, Kevin Davis, Susan Poutanen
Pathology, East Africa
The combination of aztreonam and ceftazidime-avibactam is a proven treatment option for infections caused by metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL)-expressing gram-negative organisms. Restoration of aztreonam susceptibility in the presence of ceftazidime-avibactam can be determined using the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI)’s broth disc elution (BDE) method; however, the high manual workload and significant material footprint of this assay make it difficult to implement in a high-throughput clinical microbiology lab. This study evaluates two agar-based methods for the detection of susceptibility to the combination of aztreonam and ceftazidime-avibactam, using BDE as the comparator methodology. Resistant Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, and Acinetobacter spp. …

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed the software landscape, ushering in a new era of intelligent systems that increasingly shape our daily lives. This transformation is evident in various domains, including Software Engineering (SE), where Large Language Models (LLMs) support many development tools, and control systems, where self-driving cars and autonomous drones rely on deep learning models for real-time decision-making. These AI systems are collectively referred to as AI software, with the former categorized as AI4SE software (AI for Software Engineering) and the latter as AI4Control software (AI for Control). As AI software becomes central to modern computing infrastructure, its reliability …
Dyadic Trust Congruence And Asymmetry: The Mediating Role Of Psychological Needs On Trust And Performance, Hongyin Cai
Dyadic Trust Congruence And Asymmetry: The Mediating Role Of Psychological Needs On Trust And Performance, Hongyin Cai
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
This thesis examines how trust congruence and trust asymmetry shape leader-subordinate relationships and how these dynamics influence LTS and subordinate job performance. Trust congruence and trust asymmetry are defined by the degree of alignment between STL and SFT. Drawing on Self-Determination Theory, this study investigates these processes from the subordinate’s perspective using a mixed-method design that integrates qualitative interviews and quantitative analysis.
Results show that subordinate trust in leader (STL), subordinate felt trust (SFT) and leader trust in subordinate (LTS) are three distinct constructs. Trust asymmetry is prevalent, with subordinate often trusting more than they feel trusted. Asymmetry meaningfully shapes …
Gen Z Employees’ Characteristics And Their Impacts On Work Motivation And Outcomes: A Comparative Study Of Private Firms And State-Owned Enterprises In China, Yanfang Zheng
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
This study examines the characteristics of Generation Z (Gen Z) employees and investigates how these traits influence work motivation and job-related outcomes within the Chinese organizational context. Specifically, the research compares employees working in state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and private firms, two dominant but structurally distinct organizational forms in China. Drawing upon self-determination theory, generational cohort theory, and organizational behavior literature, the study proposes a conceptual model in which Gen Z characteristics influence job outcomes both directly and indirectly through intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, with organizational type acting as a moderating variable. A quantitative, multi-source survey design was employed. Data were …
The Impact Of Corporate Social Responsibility On Employees' Work Attitudes And Behaviors, Qian Yuan
The Impact Of Corporate Social Responsibility On Employees' Work Attitudes And Behaviors, Qian Yuan
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
Why do some new employees voluntarily leave within a short period after joining a corporation, while others do not? Drawing on information asymmetry theory and adverse selection theory, this dissertation argues that information asymmetry and adverse selection between job seekers and firms before organizational entry, or during the job search process, are important reasons for new employees’ short-term voluntary turnover. Because corporate social responsibility (CSR) can provide people with information about a firm’s capabilities, willingness, and intentions, this dissertation proposes that firms’ CSR activities can provide job seekers with information about various aspects of the firm. In doing so, CSR …
The Impact Of Job Demands On Work And Family Outcomes Among Healthcare Workers In China: The Moderating Effect Of Gender And Professional Identity Integration (G-Pii) And Communal Orientation, Wei Zhou
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
Long work hours, emotional strain, and stress are just a few of the high demands placed on healthcare workers in China, which have led to occupational burnout, tension between job and family, and worse health. This research investigates the relationship between job demands and burnout via the lens of the Job Demands-Resources model and social identity theory, work-family balance, subjective well-being, and career commitment among Chinese healthcare workers. We focus on the moderating roles of gender and professional identity integration (G-PII) and communal orientation. In a two-wave investigation, 317 medical professionals from different Chinese hospitals took part. Hierarchical regression studies …
How Do Monetary Incentives Affect Prosocial Behavior Among Gig Workers?—Behavioral Experiments Based On Flashex, Peng Xue
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
The gig economy has reshaped labor markets. Motivating mobile, loosely contracted gig workers to engage in prosocial behavior is critical for platform governance. This paper uses a randomized field experiment on FlashEx in comparable Chinese cities to examine how monetary incentives affect delivery workers’ prosocial behavior and related economic outcomes.
The main findings of this study are as follows. First, monetary incentives significantly promote gig workers’ prosocial behavior, effectively increasing both the likelihood and frequency of their participation in altruistic acts. This effect is primarily driven by the “instrumental value” mechanism in the gig economy: the platform’s gold coin rewards, …

Background:
The treatment and prognosis of melanoma have historically been based on histologic stage and Breslow depth; however, due to the increase in surveillance, melanomas are being identified at an earlier stage and lower Breslow depth. Advances in genetic testing, such as Decision Dx®, mean that melanoma diagnostic decisions and prognosis can now be directed by genetics. The purpose of this project was to assess the influence of a Decision Dx® high-grade (Class 2A/B) classification on the treatment of melanoma patients at a regional medical center, particularly those not deemed high risk by conventional classification methods, including Breslow depth and …

Objective: Feeding-tube weaning is conducted in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with significant logistical, financial, and structural barriers to both approaches. We sought to assess whether remote patient monitoring (RPM), using a mobile application, which would overcome many of these barriers, could be effective in helping patients tube wean. Methods: We prospectively enrolled patients with a feeding tube, aged 0–3 years. Enrolled families entered data daily into the remote application. Data were monitored by a nurse and reviewed weekly by a multidisciplinary team. A standard hunger provocation protocol was used, paired with medical, behavioral, oral motor, and nutrition interventions, as …

Appetite self-regulation (ASR) among children is thought to have a fundamental role in shaping the development of healthy eating behaviors, dietary intake, and growth during childhood. Parallel to developmental frameworks for understanding "general" self-regulation among children, ASR has been described as involving children's use of "top-down" cognitive processes to moderate "bottom-up" biological drives around food approach and avoidance in the interest of achieving desired eating behaviors or outcomes. Whereas bottom-up ASR processes during early childhood are well characterized, particularly in the context of dysregulation and obesity risk, the role of top-down ASR processes in the development of healthy eating behaviors …

Background: Dens evaginatus cusps typically have pulpal tissue, and fracturing of the cusp leads to necrosis. Immature permanent teeth with pulp necrosis have traditionally been treated with apexification, which eliminates infection but does not promote root development.
Methods: Regenerative endodontics utilizes revascularization by infiltrating stem cells from the apical papilla and using them to treat an immature necrotic tooth with periapical infection.
Results: Periapical radiolucency completely resolved, root length and thickness increased, and vitality returned at the one-year follow-up.
Conclusion: Regenerative protocols promote root development, reducing fracture risk. This treatment offers improved outcomes with fewer appointments and shorter treatment duration.
