Justice-Involved Adults’ Perspectives On Multidisciplinary Treatment Teams During Community Re-Entry, Monique D. Brown Wellons Mar 2026

Justice-Involved Adults’ Perspectives On Multidisciplinary Treatment Teams During Community Re-Entry, Monique D. Brown Wellons

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Adults with mental illnesses have been disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system, often due to limited access to timely mental health treatment and fragmented community-based support. When continuity of care was inadequate, justice involvement frequently replaced coordinated interventions designed to promote stabilization and recovery. This qualitative study was guided by the sequential intercept model and the risk-need-responsivity model to examine how multidisciplinary treatment teams influenced rehabilitation and reoffending outcomes among formerly incarcerated adults diagnosed with mental illness. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with justice-involved adults who described their experiences with multidisciplinary support during their reentry process and analyzed …

Can Mayor Mamdani Freeze The Rent? It’S Complicated, Nestor Davidson, David J. Reiss Mar 2026

Can Mayor Mamdani Freeze The Rent? It’S Complicated, Nestor Davidson, David J. Reiss

Cornell Law Faculty Publications

In Can Mayor Mamdani Freeze the Rent? It’s Complicated, former New York City Rent Guidelines Board (RGB) chairs Nestor Davidson and David Reiss examine the legal and policy realities behind Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s campaign promise to freeze rents for the city’s approximately one million rent-stabilized apartments. The authors explain that, although the mayor appoints members of the RGB, state law grants the board—not the mayor—the authority to set annual rent adjustments using statutory criteria and economic data. They argue that the RGB must independently evaluate evidence concerning tenant affordability, landlord operating costs, and the overall health of the city’s …

Research on therapeutic boarding schools (TBS) has largely focused on treatment experiences and immediate adolescent outcomes, with limited attention to identity development after program discharge. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to examine identity development during emerging adulthood in TBS alumni aged 18-24 and to explore how internal strengths and external supports influenced participants’ developmental experiences after leaving TBS. Positive youth development was the guiding theoretical framework, emphasizing the bidirectional relationship between a person and the external ecological assets they access. Semistructured interviews were conducted with six alumni, and data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis within a …

Testing Dobbs’S Democracy Premise: Can State Constitutions Be Amended To Reflect Popular Opinion On Abortion?, Isabel Sperber Mar 2026

Testing Dobbs’S Democracy Premise: Can State Constitutions Be Amended To Reflect Popular Opinion On Abortion?, Isabel Sperber

Duke Law Journal

When the Supreme Court eliminated a federal constitutional right to abortion in Dobbs v. Jackson, it relied in significant part on the notion that abortion is an issue best left to the political process. Abortion has since become a main character in the national political conversation, with state legislatures around the United States embracing a wave of abortion-related legislation. The shifting landscape of abortion rights is not limited to the legislative process; voters are increasingly relying on state constitutional amendments to replace the protections previously provided by the federal Constitution. Political actors point to these amendments, typically enacted through a …

Closing The “Extreme Circumstances” Gap: The Legality Of Nuclear Weapons When The Survival Of A State Is In Question, Christopher J. Hart

International Law Studies

There is a gap at the heart of the law governing the use of nuclear weapons. Repeated threats by Russian leaders to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine highlight the urgency of closing this gap. This article reviews the central holding of the 1996 International Court of Justice advisory opinion on the Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons. The article focuses on the controversial “extreme circumstances” clause, in which the ICJ stated that it could not determine the legality of using nuclear weapons when the survival of a State was in question. This left open the questions …

Deferred Action For Workers? ¡Dale!, Avery Allen Mar 2026

Deferred Action For Workers? ¡Dale!, Avery Allen

Duke Law Journal

Immigration-related retaliation is a well-documented consequence for noncitizen workers who report dangerous and unlawful working conditions. Many noncitizen workers are tethered to their employers for legal status and work authorization, and this power dynamic often prevents them from speaking out for fear of being fired or deported. Little academic attention has been paid to a Biden-era initiative designed to assuage the threat of immigration-related retaliation against workers. Deferred Action for Labor Enforcement (“DALE”), created by the Department of Homeland Security in 2023, provides a streamlined process for workers involved in labor investigations to seek deferred action and receive related benefits, …

Depression, although a consequence of sexual violence, has not been studied in the context of college students’ views of campus sexual violence climate. Depression is one of the most prevalent and impairing mental health concerns among college students and has well-established links to sexual violence victimization; therefore, it serves as a theoretically and clinically meaningful focal outcome. Therefore, we assessed perceptions of institutional climate in the context of self-reported depression. Undergraduates (n = 716) reported perceptions and experiences of campus sexual violence and misconduct, connectedness, attitude, and depressive symptoms in an online survey. More than a third of participants reported …

Using Spiderwebs To Capture Airborne Environmental Dna (Edna) To Detect Animal Biodiversity In An Urban Park, Sabriya Ann Seid, Leonardo Gonzalez-Smith, Josephine Campos, Demian A. Willette

Cities and the Environment (CATE)

Environmental DNA (eDNA) is the genetic material shed by organisms in the environment. It has emerged as a powerful resource for assessing biodiversity, particularly in aquatic settings. The application of eDNA methods in terrestrial environments is less developed, with researchers still exploring collection methods of eDNA from the air. One novel approach recently trialed is the use of spiderwebs, a passive, natural material whose sticky silk threads can capture tiny airborne particles, including eDNA. Here, we investigated the use of spiderwebs for airborne eDNA collection as part of a broader survey of biodiversity at the urban Ascot Hills Park in …
