Hyperoxia is both an essential therapy and a contributor to lung injury in acute respiratory distress syndrome. We hypothesized that adult female rats are relatively protected from hyperoxia-induced acute lung injury (HALI) compared with males and that this protection is associated with sex-dependent differences in lung mitochondrial bioenergetics and H2O2 production. Adult rats were exposed to room air (normoxia) or hyperoxia (>95% O2) for up to 60 h. Lung injury was assessed by pleural effusion, lung wet weight, pulmonary vascular filtration coefficient (Kf), histologic injury scores, and cleaved caspase-3 (CC3) staining. …

Topsoil features within a depth of 0–10 cm are vital for making soil management decisions that affect crop production. However, the use of these soil features to predict soil organic carbon (SOC) at 10–20 cm requires further investigation. The study aims to predict SOC at 10–20 cm using total nitrogen (total N), pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and SOC at 0–10 cm and select a suitable model for predicting SOC. This study was conducted using data from a long-term tillage, winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)-fallow experiment established in autumn 1970. Treatments included moldboard plow, stubble mulch, no-till, and native …

Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering
Federated Learning (FL) introduces a decentralized machine learning paradigm where model training occurs directly on user devices, ensuring data privacy by keeping sensitive information local. This approach ensures data privacy and security by keeping all sensitive or personally identifiable information local to the device, thereby eliminating the need to transfer or centralize raw data. In this survey, we examine federated deep learning — its challenges, recent developments, application domains, privacy preservation strategies, and future trends. We will give some primitive reference papers of the heterogeneity of statistics and systems, communication cost, fairness, and trust. Applications in health, Internet of Things …

The findings provide insights into effective training and implementation of sensory modulation interventions.
A Novel Endolysin Of Phage Persinger Infecting Pseudomonas Aeruginosa: Activity Against Biofilms And Structural Prediction, Layla Abbud
James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal (JMURJ)
Endolysins are proteins that degrade bacterial cell walls. They are encoded on the genome of bacteriophages (viruses that infect and kill bacteria). At the end of the lytic cycle of a bacteriophage, endolysins cut the peptidoglycan layer of the bacterial cell wall, allowing the release of viral progeny. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a well-known multidrug-resistant human pathogen that causes serious problems, especially in patients diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF). One property of P. aeruginosa is the production of biofilms, which is a defense against antibiotics. Previous research has shown that endolysins from bacteriophages can degrade biofilms. The endolysin protein from Persinger, …

Ultrasound-Guided Percutaneous Sclerotherapy Of A Canine Hepatic Cyst Using Lower-Concentration Ethanol: A Case Report, Minyoung Kim, Dongyeong Lee, Seulgi Bae, Sang-Kwon Lee, Kija Lee
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
A 10-year-old female Pomeranian was referred after a hepatic cyst was incidentally identified during a routine health check. Ultrasound-guided simple drainage was initially performed, and cytological examination of the aspirated fluid confirmed a simple cyst. However, the cyst re-expanded to its original size within 2 weeks. Therefore, ultrasound-guided percutaneous sclerotherapy was elected using lower-concentration ethanol (83%), a readily available medical disinfectant, rather than conventional high-concentration ethanol. Approximately 50% of the aspirated volume was replaced with 83% ethanol and retained for 20 min to achieve effective epithelial ablation. Post-procedural follow-up revealed a transient increase in cyst size and serum alanine aminotransferase …

Clinical Insights Into Early-Onset Pancreatic Cancer, Ken Huynh, Ling Huang, Kyra Langley, Julie Clark, David Kwon
Medical Student Research Symposium
Background: Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S., with a 5-year survival of 12.8%. Black patients experience higher incidence, later-stage diagnosis, and worse survival than other groups. Early-onset pancreatic cancer (EOPC, age < 50 years) represents 5–12% of cases and shows distinct features including male predominance, later presentation, and associations with smoking, obesity, and diabetes. Data on EOPC among Black patients remain limited. Given Detroit’s large Black population, this study characterizes clinical and demographic factors associated with EOPC to identify potential risk patterns.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of pancreatic adenocarcinoma cases (October 2005– February 2025) was conducted using the Henry Ford Health REDCap database. Demographic, clinical, and biomarker data were extracted from electronic records. Statistical comparisons between groups were performed using chi-square, Fisher’s exact, or t-tests.
Results: Of 2,436 patients, 243 met inclusion criteria: 86 EOPC, 81 average-onset (AOPC), and 76 late-onset (LOPC). EOPC …

Exploring The Role Of Patient Feedback In Medical Education, Hovhannes John Hayrapetyan, Stella Hayrapetyan, Diane L. Levine Md
Medical Student Research Symposium
Background: Patient feedback is increasingly recognized as a valuable yet underutilized component of medical student assessment. When collected reliably, delivered with specificity, and embedded in a supportive learning environment, feedback can improve communication, professionalism, and patient-centered behaviors while promoting reflective, self-directed learning. However, studies highlight limitations including inadequate longitudinal evidence for sustained improvement, inconsistent use of structured tools, and insufficient faculty guidance. Instruments such as the Patient Feedback in Clinical Practice (PFCP) questionnaire show promise but require broader testing, and links between learner feedback and patient outcomes remain weak.
Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted using PubMed, Google Scholar, …
