Overcoming Glioblastoma Resistance To Temozolomide With New Derivatives: Design, Synthesis, And Mechanistic Studies, Hualin Zhang
Overcoming Glioblastoma Resistance To Temozolomide With New Derivatives: Design, Synthesis, And Mechanistic Studies, Hualin Zhang
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive brain tumor with rapid progression and poor prognosis. Although temozolomide (TMZ) remains a central component of standard therapy, its clinical benefit is limited and resistance frequently emerges through DNA repair pathways, particularly O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT). Because DNA cross-links are generally more difficult to repair than monoalkylated lesions, we hypothesized that TMZ derivatives bearing protein-reactive functionality might generate damage that is less susceptible to MGMT-mediated resistance. Guided by this rationale, we designed a new class of N3-modified TMZ derivatives containing covalent warheads, developed a synthetic route compatible with the chemical instability of the TMZ scaffold, …

International Conference on Business and Management Research (ICBMR)
Strengthening the national research and innovation ecosystem is crucial for sustainable development, with the government playing a key role through strategic funding schemes. The Research and Innovation for Advanced Indonesia (RIIM) Collaboration scheme, managed by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), is vital for fostering international research partnerships. However, its implementation faces significant challenges, including lengthy and complex business processes that lead to delays in research execution. This study aims to analyze the current (as-is) business process of the RIIM Collaboration scheme and design an optimized (to-be) process to enhance operational efficiency. This research employs a mixed-method case study …

Predicting Medical Tourism Destination Preference Of Indonesian Patients: The Roles Of Patient Experience Quality, Perceived Ai Intelligence And Humanness, Eddy Eddy, Sabrina O. Sihombing, Ferdi Antonio
International Conference on Business and Management Research (ICBMR)
This study proposes an investigation on the antecedents of medical tourism destination preference among Indonesian patients, with a specific focus on the novel moderating role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbots. Driven by a significant financial drain from outbound medical travel, this study aims to understand the key factors that influence Indonesian patients to seek care abroad. The proposed conceptual framework posits that medical tourism destination preference is positively predicted by medical technology advancement, service quality, price transparency, and geographical accessibility. Patient experience quality is also hypothesized to mediate these relationships, serving as a critical psychological bridge. The most innovative aspect …

International Conference on Business and Management Research (ICBMR)
ABSTRACT
Introduction: A strategic method of evaluating the economic impact of tourism across regions while taking into consideration Indonesia's geographical and socioeconomic diversity is to divide tourist destinations according to the reasons for travel. Background Problems: This study introduces an integrated statistical framework to assess the economic impact of domestic tourism in Indonesia, emphasizing regional heterogeneity and evolving travel behavior. Research Methods: A novel clustering approach is developed based on travel motivations—rather than geographical proximity—utilizing hierarchical clustering in conjunction with time series analysis and ANOVA techniques. The time series analysis identifies pronounced seasonal trends and fluctuations in spending, influenced significantly …
The Voice As A Coordinated Bodily System: Embodied Learning, Anatomy, And Vocal Pedagogy, Ge Hope Tian
The Voice As A Coordinated Bodily System: Embodied Learning, Anatomy, And Vocal Pedagogy, Ge Hope Tian
The Transdisciplinary STEAM+ Journal
This reflective article examines the limitations of control-based approaches in traditional vocal training and proposes a shift toward understanding the voice as an integrated, coordinated bodily system. Drawing on personal experience, the author highlights how common instructional language - focused on outcomes such as resonance, support, and projection - often leads singers to apply excessive effort, resulting in tension, inefficiency, and vocal strain. By distinguishing between localized control and whole-body coordination, the reflection illustrates how sustainable vocal function emerges not through muscular manipulation but through balanced, dynamic organization of breath, posture, and sound. The author traces a transformative learning process …

The Case For Undergraduate Student Organizing, Nina Goldshmid
The Case For Undergraduate Student Organizing, Nina Goldshmid
Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
This paper is a reflection and timeline of my experience organizing a union and negotiating a contract as a student worker at Barnard College. I explored the power dynamics between student workers and college administrations, how to promote unity for progress, and why some undergraduate students are deciding to organize. I discussed the actions of the college that could stifle union organizing and negotiations, the obstacles involved in organizing, and the ways to build solidarity through awareness and coalition. I summarized the main takeaways from my experience and characterize the current student labor movement.

Strategies In Bargaining Faculty Retrenchment Provisions: Insights From Cases Of Implementing Contract Language, Gary Rhoades
Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
In this article on faculty (and professional staff) retrenchment, based on my recent national analysis of 506 collective bargaining agreements, I delineate four strategies to negotiating the topic found in contract provisions (with more than one strategy often found in the same contract). The strategies are: Procedural (focused on due process); consultative (addressing employee involvement in deliberations); conditional (defining pre-conditions of retrenchment); and re-alignment (speaking to reversing the decades-long relative disinvestment in academic and student facing professional staff). In exploring four cases of institutions—two community colleges and two universities—experiencing retrenchment, I consider how the contract provisions have played out in …
Academic Freedom In Graduate Student Union Collective Bargaining Agreements, Madeline Rowe
Academic Freedom In Graduate Student Union Collective Bargaining Agreements, Madeline Rowe
Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
Graduate student unionization has rapidly increased over the last decade, with almost 40% of graduate student employees unionized by 2024. Yet, little is known about how these contracts address graduate students’ academic freedom – an often-ambiguous area due to graduate students’ dual roles on campus as both employees and students. Using textual analysis of thirteen collective bargaining agreements, this study examines how graduate student collective bargaining agreements include and address matters of academic freedom and the implications this may have on graduate students’ roles on campus and in the greater campus hierarchy. Results reveal that graduate student collective bargaining agreements …

Forcing The Issue: Nebraska’S Collective Bargaining Stand-Off, Shannon Cummins
Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
This paper describes the unusual collective bargaining landscape for public academic institutions in the state of Nebraska where state legislation has mandated both pay transparency and limits to the collective bargaining process. Specifically, it explores the unprecedented 2024-2025 bargaining cycle which relied on innovative union tactics of nationwide freedom of information requests (FOIA) to reach contract agreement in the face of twelve years of administration stonewalling tactics. The case study of Nebraska is important as it provides an actual account of negotiations where state limits on collective bargaining have yet to be tested in the courts.
One Faculty, One Mission: A Unified Faculty Model For California Community Colleges, Debbie Klein
One Faculty, One Mission: A Unified Faculty Model For California Community Colleges, Debbie Klein
Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
This article advances a unified, non-tiered faculty model as essential to fulfilling the mission of the California Community Colleges (CCC) system. Although the system is charged with realizing open access and educational equity, nearly 70% of faculty serve in part-time or contingent roles—often without proportional compensation, institutional stability, or meaningful participation in governance. Drawing on research demonstrating that faculty working conditions shape student learning conditions, the article argues that structural employment inequities undermine the system’s democratic promise. Situating the proposal within national “One Faculty” efforts and recent legislative attention to pay parity in California, it demonstrates that reform is both …

Operative Management Of An Ulnar Stress Fracture In A Collegiate Cheerleader, Catherine Allen, Jacob Hackett, Alan Koester, Madison Cunningham, Dana Lycans
Marshall Journal of Medicine
Ulnar stress fractures are relatively rare, particularly in the context of collegiate cheerleading. This case report explores the presentation, diagnosis, and surgical management of an unexpected stress fracture in the ulna of a collegiate cheerleader. An 18-year-old female presented with persistent, localized pain in her non-dominant arm. Imaging revealed an isolated ulnar stress fracture, an unusual finding despite participating in this physically demanding sport. Surgical intervention was deemed necessary, and a nail fixation technique was employed to stabilize the fracture. Ulnar stress fractures, though rare in cheerleading, can present unique challenges. This case report documents the effectiveness of an operative …

Extraparotid Warthin Tumor Presenting As A Cervical Lymph Node Mass: A Case Report., Kristen E. Bowman, Colin Bashline, Konstantinos C. Mantzios, Jack Kelly, David Maki, David Webb
Marshall Journal of Medicine
A Warthin tumor is a salivary gland neoplasm that arises in the parotid gland which is frequently benign. This case study presents a rare instance of a Warthin tumor occurring in an extraparotid location; specifically, within the left-sided cervical lymph nodes of a 64-year-old male patient. The patient initially presented with fluctuating cervical adenopathy. Although an initial ultrasound-guided biopsy was inconclusive, a computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a well-demarcated, heterogeneous lesion in an atypical location between the parotid gland and the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Surgical excision of the mass was performed and the specimen was sent to pathology for further analysis. …

Leading Academic Health Centers In Times Of Uncertainty, Wendy L. Ward
Marshall Journal of Medicine
Times of uncertainty and rapid change can negatively impact academic health centers (AHC) in complex ways, creating challenges for leaders. These include policy uncertainty, financial instability, workforce stress, reputational risk, operational disruptions, and advocacy pressure. There are also potential opportunities for AHCs during this time of immense change and disruption. This perspective piece reviews the diverse negative and positive impacts of political turmoil on academic health centers. Five considerations are offered for leaders navigating times of uncertainty.

Discernment: Theology and the Practice of Ministry
This article explores the need for leadership development in the Churches of Christ in Ghana, focusing on Church of Christ congregations in Teshie. It highlights persistent challenges, including the lack of spiritual maturity, structure, and contextualization. To meet these challenges, this article emphasizes principles and practices of discipleship, intentional training, and cultural relevance. This study contributes to a broader understanding of ecclesial leadership of the Churches of Christ within African Christian contexts and suggests practical pathways for strengthening leadership in similar congregations.

Witness Beyond Technique: Gospel, Conversion, And The Moral Formation Of The Church, Christopher Flanders
Discernment: Theology and the Practice of Ministry
Technique, efficiency, and measurable outcomes typically govern contemporary Western approaches to evangelism. Such approaches presume a thin account of the gospel, a punctiliar understanding of conversion, and an instrumental view of the church’s witness. This article argues that these assumptions represent not merely pragmatic missteps but theological distortions. Drawing on Scripture, historical theology, missiology, and practices of Christian initiation, I contend that evangelism is best understood as ecclesial witness oriented toward the moral formation of persons and communities under the reign of God. Conversion, on this account, is not a discrete decision secured through persuasive technique but a transformative journey …
