Christianity In The Kitchen: A Physiological Cook Book, Mary Mann Dec 1856

Christianity In The Kitchen: A Physiological Cook Book, Mary Mann

Historic Cookbook Collection

"Mary Mann believed that good digestion was synonymous with virtue, and dyspepsia was equated with sin. So the advice and recipes in her cookbook promote good eating habits… discouraging the consumption of processed and fatty foods labelling them 'death in the pot.' Her cookbook contains several hundred recipes for a wide variety of dishes from soup to nuts (including meat - she was not a vegetarian) that reflect this philosophy.

Van Raalte Papers: 1850-1859

A letter of Anna [Taylor], daughter of Walter T. Taylor, the first principal of the Pioneer School, to Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte. She assumed that A.C.V.R. had heard of her father's death. However, she regretted that her father and A.C.V.R. had a disagreement which marred their relationship. Wichers quotes this letter in A Century of Hope, p. 40.
