Covid-19 And Non-Traditional Security, Arup Maity, Rajani Kant Pandey

The World Research of Political Science Journal

Around 100 years ago, John Maynard Keynes, the most distinguished economist of modern times, published a book A Treatise on Probability (1921), and in this book, as a scholar, he argued for changes instead of the ‘traditional theory,’ and significantly the time was the middle of the World War. Now the world has reached 2021 with the depletive COVID-19 and is battling against it. Covid is a virus that we cannot see with just an open eye, but its impact has caused around 40 million human deaths, and we can see our world as pandemonium with only an open eye. …

The Role Of Internal And External Factors In The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (Gerd) Crisis, Mariam Hassan, Mohamed Nour Al-Bosrati

The World Research of Political Science Journal

Water issues have become one of the first priorities of countries, so they set out to develop future plans and water policies to preserve and develop the available water resources and rationalize their use, and to search for new water resources by using alternatives to increase their water wealth. The Nile countries are among the countries that suffer from scarcity in a desert region where surface water sources are lacking, and their location outside the heavy rain belts made them suffer from a decrease in rainfall rates, and the waters of major rivers come from outside their lands, as the …

Qualified Immunity: The Court's Brain Child & License To Kill, Laisha Harris

The Bridge: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Legal & Social Policy

Qualified immunity, a defense created by the imagination of the Supreme Court, prevents citizens of their right to hold law enforcement officers liable when they clearly violate a citizens constitutionally protected right. Throughout this paper, I will describe the historical context of Supreme Court decisions regarding qualified immunity, clarifying the errs in logic that perpetuate a system of racial violence, while using the doctrine of stare decisis to justify the overturning of the decisions that created the defense of qualified immunity.

Hippo Pathway And Inflammation: Implications For Multiwalled-Carbon Nanotube Exposure., M. Thakur, D. Mutyala, N. Bidarimath, R. Kondati, S. Batra

Student Presentations

The Hippo signalling pathway is commonly recognized for its ability to regulate tissue growth organ size and cell proliferation by directly participating in inflammation. Nevertheless, recent studies indicate that the Hippo pathway can potentially impact inflammation indirectly by controlling processes like cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue repair. Engineered nanoparticles, particularly single- or multi-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs/MWCNTs), are commonly used in various products. Inhalation of these nanotubes carries health risks due to their large surface area and strong binding affinity for pollutants or biomolecules, which can affect immune and non-immune cell responses. Functionalization of CNTs with chemical groups further complicates their …

Interior Least Terns (Sternula Antillarum Athalassos) In A Landscape Of Fear: Explaining Predator Frequency On Sandbars Using Habitat Features, Carice N. Kimbrell

ATU Theses and Dissertations 2021 - Present

Causes of colony failure in interior least terns (Sternula antillarum athalassos) have been a prevalent topic for researchers investigating this previously endangered species. In Arkansas, these colonies are primarily located on sandbars formed along the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. Reduction in nesting site quality may put this sensitive species at a greater risk for predator encounters. In my first chapter, I identified which sandbar characteristics resulted in higher frequencies of predator encounters at interior least tern colonies. In my second chapter, I investigated how those predators influenced colony production and whether interior least tern colonies exhibited similar …

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

Abstract:

Understanding the prevalence and service needs of underserved populations affected by gender-based violence (GBV) is crucial, as their experiences are often underreported, and existing services frequently fall short of effectively addressing their needs. In this presentation, "underserved populations" refers to historically marginalized, underrepresented, and inadequately supported groups as victims of GBV.

The presentation examines various services, including direct forms like shelter and advocacy, and indirect approaches such as systemic interventions and policy reform. Conducted in a Midwestern state, the presentation involved insights from advocates, victim shelter staff, law enforcement, and legal professionals, totaling 41 responses. Findings reveal significant service …

We examine a physiological framework that recognizes insulin-resistant cardiometabolic underpinnings of the conditions of the American Heart Associations' Life's Essential Eight construct of cardiovascular health as a …

The Perception Of Innocence And Guilt: Understanding Relationships Between Exonerees And Their Loved Ones, Martha E. Mccullough Mar 2024

The Perception Of Innocence And Guilt: Understanding Relationships Between Exonerees And Their Loved Ones, Martha E. Mccullough

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Exoneration and wrongful conviction complicate the field of criminology and the criminal justice system. Much of the scholarship on wrongful conviction focuses on the faults of the criminal justice system, such as false or misleading forensic evidence, false confessions, official misconduct, inadequate legal defense, and more. However, there is less research on the social, psychological, and economic impact of a wrongful conviction on those who have been wrongfully convicted and those associated with wrongful convictions (e.g., exoneree's loved ones). Recent studies indicate that social and psychological implications after a wrongful conviction may not only affect exonerees but also their loved …

The Supreme Court And Children, Aaron Tang Mar 2024

The Supreme Court And Children, Aaron Tang

Northwestern University Law Review

How do children fare at the Supreme Court? Empirical research on the question is sparse, but existing accounts suggest a disheartening answer. A 1996 study found that children lost more than half of their cases in the Court, and a pair of prominent scholars lamented twenty years later that “the losses in children’s rights cases” had “outpace[d] and overwhelm[ed] the victories.”

In this Article, I present evidence that complicates this understanding. Based on an original dataset comprising 262 Supreme Court decisions between 1953 and 2023, I find that children have prevailed in 62.6% of their cases. This win rate is …
