Dynamic Modeling And Tracking Of 3-Wheels Omni-Directional Mobile Robot With Manual Pid Tuning Method, Soe Soe Htay, Khaing Win Phyu, Su Yadanar, Wut Yi Win, Min Thu Soe
Platform: A Journal of Engineering (PAJE)
This paper presents the dynamic modelling and tracking control of a holonomic 3-wheel omni-directional mobile robot. A proportional integral derivative (PID) controller is used, and its performance depends on the dynamic model’s accuracy. The controller design for the switched non-linear system is based on both a dynamic model and a kinematic design. A proposed dynamic model averages the contact radius of the 3-wheels. The resultant dynamic model, on average, is non-linear and smooth, serving as a potential solution for model-based control design. The closed-loop simulation results clearly illustrate the dynamic characteristics of the 3-wheels omni-directional mobile robot, offering valuable insights …

BACKGROUND: The lack of regular physical activity (PA) in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) in the United States is an ongoing health crisis. Regular PA and exercise-based interventions have been linked with improved outcomes and healthier lifestyles among those with SCI. Providing people with an accurate estimate of their everyday PA level can promote PA. Furthermore, PA tracking can be combined with mobile health technology such as smartphones and smartwatches to provide a just-in-time adaptive intervention (JITAI) for individuals with SCI as they go about everyday life. A JITAI can prompt an individual to set a PA goal or …

Chemotherapy Drug Release From Hollow Core Polyethyleneimine Nanoparticles, Brian Boyle
Theses and Dissertations
Novel anticancer delivery vehicles are arising from engineered nanostructured materials. This work involved the synthesis, characterization, and release of novel hollow core polymeric nanoparticles (HCPNPs) for controlled drug delivery. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) was bound to AuNPs, forming polymer-shell nanoparticles with dissolution of the gold core via iodine forming HCPNPs with drug intercalated DNA bound to the surface. A high density (85 molecules/particle) of DNA intercalated with daunorubicin was conjugated. Particles were spherical with an average diameter of 105.7 ± 17.3 nm and zeta potential of 20.4 ± 3.54 mV. We hypothesize the DNA backbone electrostatically condensed to the primary amines on …

How can short-lived molecules selectively maintain the potentiation of activated synapses to sustain long-term memory? Here, we find kidney and brain expressed adaptor protein (KIBRA), a postsynaptic scaffolding protein genetically linked to human memory performance, complexes with protein kinase Mzeta (PKMζ), anchoring the kinase's potentiating action to maintain late-phase long-term potentiation (late-LTP) at activated synapses. Two structurally distinct antagonists of KIBRA-PKMζ dimerization disrupt established late-LTP and long-term spatial memory, yet neither measurably affects basal synaptic transmission. Neither antagonist affects PKMζ-independent LTP or memory that are maintained by compensating PKCs in ζ-knockout mice; thus, both agents require PKMζ for their effect. …

Efforts to develop targetable molecular bases for drug resistance for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) have been equivocally successful. Using RNA-seq and ingenuity pathway analysis we identified that the superpathway of cholesterol biosynthesis is upregulated in gemcitabine resistant (gemR) tumors using a unique PDAC PDX model with resistance to gemcitabine acquired in vivo. Analysis of additional in vitro and in vivo gemR PDAC models showed that HMG-CoA synthase 2 (HMGCS2), an enzyme involved in cholesterol biosynthesis and rate limiting in ketogenesis, is overexpressed in these models. Mechanistic data demonstrate the novel findings that HMGCS2 contributes to gemR and confers metastatic properties …

Cutaneous wounds, both acute and chronic, begin with loss of the integrity, and thus barrier function, of the skin. Surgery and trauma produce acute wounds. There are 22 million surgical procedures per year in the United States alone, based on data from the American College of Surgeons, resulting in a prevalence of 6.67%. Acute traumatic wounds requiring repair total 8 million per year, 2.42% or 24.2 per 1000. The cost of wound care is increasing; it approached USD 100 billion for just Medicare in 2018. This burden for wound care will continue to rise with population aging, the increase in …

Little is known about risk factors for central nervous system (CNS) relapse in mature T-cell and natural killer cell neoplasms (MTNKNs). We aimed to describe the clinical epidemiology of CNS relapse in patients with MTNKN and developed the CNS relapse In T-cell lymphoma Index (CITI) to predict patients at the highest risk of CNS relapse. We reviewed data from 135 patients with MTNKN and CNS relapse from 19 North American institutions. After exclusion of leukemic and most cutaneous forms of MTNKNs, patients were pooled with non-CNS relapse control patients from a single institution to create a CNS relapse-enriched training set. …

Inflammation and tissue damage associated with pancreatitis can precede or occur concurrently with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). We demonstrate that in PDAC coupled with pancreatitis (ptPDAC), antigen-presenting type I conventional dendritic cells (cDC1s) are specifically activated. Immune checkpoint blockade therapy (iCBT) leads to cytotoxic CD8+ T cell activation and elimination of ptPDAC with restoration of life span even upon PDAC rechallenge. Using PDAC antigen-loaded cDC1s as a vaccine, immunotherapy-resistant PDAC was rendered sensitive to iCBT with elimination of tumors. cDC1 vaccination coupled with iCBT identified specific CDR3 sequences in the tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T cells with potential therapeutic importance. This study …

The Utilisation Of Rice Husk Ash Leachates For The Synthesis Of Eco-Friendly Geopolymers, Maria Kaka Etete Enoh, Oliver Ibor Inah
Platform: A Journal of Engineering (PAJE)
Geopolymers are inorganic polymers projected as feasible alternatives to Portland cement due to their lower CO2 emissions and high mechanical properties. In recent times, however, their impact on other environmental indices such as abiotic depletion, freshwater toxicity, marine ecotoxicity, terrestrial ecotoxicity, acidification, and human toxicity has become questionable, thus the need to investigate alternative eco-friendly precursors and activators. This work aims to manufacture an eco-efficient geopolymer by utilising biomass ash leachate as an alternative to the conventional alkali silicate solution. The leachate was obtained by soaking the rice husk ash (RHA) in a 10 M concentration of NaOH solution and …

Road traffic accidents are the primary source of injuries and fatalities worldwide, accounting for 20–50 million long term disabilities and 1.25 million deaths annually. Pavement conditions ranked as the second most common cause of traffic accidents. The combined effects of environmental factors and traffic loads lead to pavement discomfort. Ensuring proper pavement design and maintenance can assist in reducing accident rates and preventing long-term disability associated with drivers. Physical maintenance procedures like overlays, seal coatings, patching, and filling joints are carried out in practice; nevertheless, they only offer temporary fixes by treating the symptoms rather than the underlying issue. An …
3d Organ-Scale Models Of Tumor Growth And Treatment, Rafael Ramon Bravo
3d Organ-Scale Models Of Tumor Growth And Treatment, Rafael Ramon Bravo
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
To understand the dynamics of cancer, mathematical oncologists have developed models of tumor growth and treatment response. Some models are mechanistic and approach tumor growth at the cell-scale, focusing on the evolution of cancerous cells within the ecology of normal tissue, and are often simulated with agent-based modeling. Other models are more clinically motivated and model tumor growth operating at the organ-scale, using patient data to predict treatment response, and are often simulated with partial differential equations. We developed the Hybrid Automata Library which includes both agent-based modeling and partial differential equations for modeling at either of these scales. We …

Bayesian Analysis Of Hospital Service Quality: Pre- And Post-Covid, Ling Hu
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The hospital sector is the largest revenue-generating industry in the United States, with a revenue of $1.4 trillion in 2022, accounting for 5.8% of the U.S. GDP. Its service quality profoundly impacts societal welfare, especially given the aging population reached 55.8 million in 2020 and is expected to reach 82 million by 2050. Therefore, multiple policies aim to incentivize sustained healthcare service quality improvements. As an integral component of the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (HVBP) Program, the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, administrated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), serves as a cornerstone …
Physiological And Circadian Outcomes Of Fkbp5 Imbalance: Insights From Two Models, Niat Tsegai Gebru
Physiological And Circadian Outcomes Of Fkbp5 Imbalance: Insights From Two Models, Niat Tsegai Gebru
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Circadian rhythms are crucial in regulating various physiological processes, including mood regulation, and disruptions in these rhythms have been linked to several neuropsychiatric disorders, such as depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. FKBP51, a protein involved in stress responses and glucocorticoid receptor function has emerged as a potential regulator of the circadian clock. FKBP51’s interaction with glucocorticoid receptors impacts the transcriptional regulation of circadian-related genes. In recent years, FKBP51 has been associated with genetic and epigenetic alterations in neuropsychiatric disorders, highlighting its potential as a target for intervention. The heterogeneity associated with neuropsychiatric disorders arises from a combination of genetic, environmental, …

BACKGROUND: Vitamin D is necessary to develop healthy lungs and other organs early in life. Most infants born before 28 weeks' gestation have low vitamin D levels at birth and a limited intake during the first month. Enteral vitamin D supplementation is inexpensive and widely used. The appropriate supplementation regimen for extremely preterm infants is controversial, and the effect of different regimens on their blood levels and outcomes is unclear.
METHODS: Randomized, blinded comparative effectiveness trial to compare two vitamin D supplementation regimens for inborn infants(400 IU/day with established feedings) or increased supplementation (800 IU/day with any feedings) during the …

In Situ Diffuse Reflectance Spectroelectrochemistry Of Cathode Materials In Lithium-Ion Batteries, Lu-Lu Chen, Hao-Ran Li, Wei-Yi Liu, Wei Wang
Journal of Electrochemistry
Developing in situ spectroelectrochemistry methods, which can provide detailed information about species transformation during electrochemical reactions, is very important for studying electrode reaction mechanisms and improving battery performance. Studying real-time changes in the surface of electrode materials during normal operation can be an effective way to assess and optimize the practical performance of electrode materials, thus, in situ and in operando characterization techniques are particularly important.
