Policy Options For Decreasing N And P2o5 Losses From Grassland Based Dairy Farms, P.B M. Berentsen, G.W J. Giesen Jun 2024

Policy Options For Decreasing N And P2o5 Losses From Grassland Based Dairy Farms, P.B M. Berentsen, G.W J. Giesen

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Policy instruments for reducing nutrient losses include extension and education, research, financial incentives such as subsidies and levies, and regulations. The potential of these instruments for reducing nitrogen (N), phosphate (P2O5), and ammonia (NH3) losses is examined for Dutch specialized dairy farms on sandy soils. A linear programming model is used to estimate policy impacts. Results indicate that efficiency improvements through extension, education, and research alone have the potential to decrease total N losses to government target levels in 2005 and to erase 92% of the gap between base and target P2O5 losses, but only 24% of the corresponding NH3 …

Seeking A Feminist Approach To Scholarly Innovations In Music Teacher Education, Andrea Maas Jun 2024

Seeking A Feminist Approach To Scholarly Innovations In Music Teacher Education, Andrea Maas

Visions of Research in Music Education

The marketization (Marchand & Orsorno Velázquez, 2016) of higher education impacts faculty through hiring practices, workload structures, and reappointment and promotion policies. Women faculty in fields such as music education need to negotiate masculine discourses and gendered constructions of innovation (Alsos et al., 2013) in a STEM focused economy. Values held by feminist pedagogues could serve as a framework through which to consider a more feminist approach to research and scholarship. Qualities such as equalization of power, collaboration, affective learning, inclusiveness of diversity, and social responsibility may surface through a researcher’s approach to inquiry or in the content itself. This …

Dissertations Chaired By Professor Harold F. Abeles: 1975-2021, Colleen Conway

Visions of Research in Music Education

This manuscript provides discussion of the 152 dissertations in which Dr. Harold F. Abeles served as the chair during his career in higher education. The first two were at the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 1975 and the next five were at Indiana University between 1979 and 1982. The final 145 (!) were chaired at Teachers College Columbia University between 1987 and 2021. Sections in the introduction include: (a) What Makes a Good Dissertation Chair?; (b) Who Was Studied?; and (c) How Studies Were Done. Topics of the collective works include gender, applied music study, and program evaluation, among …

Effects Of Physical Activity On Self-Efficacy Of Patients With Bronchial Asthma, Carolin Schulze Jun 2024

Effects Of Physical Activity On Self-Efficacy Of Patients With Bronchial Asthma, Carolin Schulze

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Introduction: Due to higher exposures to fine dust, increased smoking and prevalence of obesity and stress, an increase in the diagnosis of bronchial asthma can be expected, which requires adequate, scientifically tested, alternative therapy methods. The current study investigated the effects of regular physical training on general and disease-specific self-efficacy. Materials and Methods: Overall 82 participants with mild to moderate medicated asthma (63% female, mean age = 41.88 ± 10.43 years) took part in the study. They were randomly divided into three groups: (1) no intervention, (2) progressive muscle relaxation and (3) physical activity intervention. Intervention lasted ten weeks with …

Relative Age Effect At Men’S Volleyball World Championships Over Time, Marcin Śliwa, Mariusz Buszta, Jerzy Sadowski Jun 2024

Relative Age Effect At Men’S Volleyball World Championships Over Time, Marcin Śliwa, Mariusz Buszta, Jerzy Sadowski

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Introduction: Relative age effect (RAE) in sport is extensively described in the literature. However, there is scarcity of data on how to avoid problems in the talent identification process and, consequently, how to avoid dropping out or losing a potential volleyball talent. The aim of the study was to carry out a retrospective analysis of RAE at Men’s U-19 and U-21 World Championships as well as Men’s World Championships over the last 12 years and to investigate possible differences in quarterly age distribution depending on anthropometric features, geographical regions the teams under study came from as well as their performance …

Review Of Mpges-1 Inhibitors Based On The Benzoxazole And Its Isostere Scaffold For The Treatment Of Inflammatory Diseases, Abdullah M. Alwagdani Jun 2024

Review Of Mpges-1 Inhibitors Based On The Benzoxazole And Its Isostere Scaffold For The Treatment Of Inflammatory Diseases, Abdullah M. Alwagdani

Longitudinal Scholar's Project

The vital role of the prostanoid pathway in inflammation, pain, cancer, Alzheimer’s and many other diseases has attracted the drug discovery community to discover targets for therapeutic development. Although existing non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) inhibiting cyclooxygenases (COX) are widely used, the side effects of these NSAIDs limit the ling time medication. Microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (mPGES-1) is an attractive target that is overexpressed during inflammations, and it could be a safe alternative to NSAIDs for treating inflammatory diseases.Since the discovery of mPGES-1 in 1997, many inhibitors have been developed since 2001. Only a few compounds were able to make it …

Pbpa Creating Pathways To Ensure Patients Are Using Their Inhaled Medications Effectively, Suzan Michelle Collins, Heather Blake, Chandler Blodgett, Sue Vermette, Martine Eon

Operations Transformation

Problem: Patients do not consistently know how to prepare, use and/or clean their inhalers effectively.

Impact: When patients do not consistently know how to prepare, use and/or clean their inhalers effectively they are in fact, not receiving the benefit from their prescribed medication.

They experience poor patient outcomes and overall poor patient experience.

  • Increased calls to provider offices for unresolved, worsening symptoms and/or complications. (Thrush, hoarseness, cardiac symptoms etc.)
  • Increased same day office visits.
  • Patient crowding in Urgent Care and/or Emergency Department.
  • Hospital Admissions.
  • Increase in emotional and financial stress from missing school and/or work.
  • Increase in referrals to specialists …

Dynamic Changes In The Distribution Of Hydrocodone And Oxycodone In Florida From 2006 To 2021, Elena Lynn Stains, Akshay C. Patel, Jay P. Solgama, Joseph D. Hagedorn, Kenneth L. Mccall, Brian J. Piper Jun 2024

Dynamic Changes In The Distribution Of Hydrocodone And Oxycodone In Florida From 2006 To 2021, Elena Lynn Stains, Akshay C. Patel, Jay P. Solgama, Joseph D. Hagedorn, Kenneth L. Mccall, Brian J. Piper

Pharmacy Faculty Scholarship

Background: Florida, which led the country in terms of its number of opioid-prescribing physicians, was unique during the height of the opioid epidemic because of its lax prescribing laws and high number of unregulated pain clinics. Here, we address differences in the distribution rates of oxycodone and hydrocodone across Florida counties during the peak years of the opioid epidemic using an under-utilized database. Methods: The Washington Post and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration’s Automation of Reports and Consolidated Orders System (ARCOS) databases provided longitudinal oxycodone and hydrocodone distribution data in grams per county (2006–2014) and state (2006–2021). Grams of …
