Vicarious Trauma In Counterterrorism Practitioners, Daisy Muibu, Joseph Young, Michael Becker, Sarah Lynch, Ethan Ferguson, Lindsay Barclay
Reports, Projects, and Research
Those exposed to violence and trauma as part of their careers may experience significant distress; yet there remains a dearth of literature exploring occupational outcomes as a result of this exposure to violence, namely through the pathways of vicarious trauma (VT) and secondary traumatic stress (STS). The current study seeks to explore how violence and trauma exposure during one’s job in the counterterrorism workforce can lead to the adverse outcomes of VT and STS, which will in turn impact one’s job performance and job satisfaction. We use a mixed methods approach, using a quantitative survey and qualitative interviews to gain …

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a condition of movement and function disorders in children that requires continuous physiotherapy. One factor in the successful development of children with CP is the existence of a home program/independent therapy carried out by parents at home. In providing the home program, physiotherapists at YPCP Surabaya gave leaflets to parents. However, this was less effective because it was easily damaged, so the home program media was replaced with video. The effectiveness of both in increasing parental compliance in carrying out the home program every day is not yet known. Objective: to find out the difference in …

New Challenges To Judicial Federalism, James A. Gardner
New Challenges To Judicial Federalism, James A. Gardner
Journal Articles
The theory of judicial federalism holds that state constitutions are jurisprudentially independent from the U.S. Constitution, and that state supreme courts consequently may, and often should, interpret state constitutions differently from how the U.S. Supreme Court interprets the federal Constitution. As the U.S. Supreme Court increasingly turns back to the states important decisions of constitutional policy, such as the scope of reproductive rights or the nature and content of limitations on partisan gerrymandering, state constitutional law looms ever larger as a potential ground for resolution of these issues.
The conditions for a revival of judicial federalism today, however, are far …

Tanzania Journal of Science
The study presents a novel mathematical framework for addressing Ebola and malaria concerns in Sub-Saharan Africa that combines Laplace transformation with Caputo fractional order derivative. It takes into account socioeconomic aspects that influence disease dynamics and uses the basic reproduction number to quantify transmission dynamics. Extensive numerical simulations using Maple 18 software are used to investigate the effect of fractional order derivatives on disease dynamics. It shows how the Laplace-Adomian decomposition approach simplifies nonlinear equations and generates control solutions. It emphasizes the necessity of turning discoveries into concrete plans and encourages stakeholders to be proactive in implementing them. Overall, the …

The current increase in the ageing population, driven by a decrease in mortality rates, has impacted most pay-as-you-go defined benefit pension schemes. The resulting increase in the dependency ratio places a greater burden on these schemes. Many pension funds currently use static lifetables to project future obligations, overlooking the gradual decline in mortality rates. This study explores the application of a time-varying mortality rate model to forecast Tanzanian mortality rates. The time-varying model was successfully employed together with multi state method to project and analyse the funding ratio and cashflow to asset value ratio of the mandatory Tanzania Public Service …
