There has been a recent and well-documented increase in unlawful child labor in the United States and a simultaneous organized effort to weaken state child labor protections. In reaction to these converging trends – along with disturbing media coverage of children injured and killed at work, the White House, U.S. Department of Labor, child advocates, labor rights’ organizers and others have mobilized to respond. This Symposium, Children at Work, was convened to focus our collective attention on this critical and emerging issue. Once considered well-settled, questions of when children work and the types of work they should do are again …

Effects Of Two Grazing Conditions On The Reproductive Achievement Of Male Alpaca In The Northern Peru Grasslands, C Pinares, E Malpartida, S Cortez
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Alpaca have recently been introduced to the northern Peru grasslands (Jalca). Effects of two systems of grazing management, co-grazing (with sheep) under fair grassland condition (CGFC) versus exclusive grazing under good grassland condition (EGGC), upon the reproductive achievement was examined from the 6th to the 16th month of age. Each system involved 20 Huacaya animals, managed by individual herders. Availability of herbage preferred by alpaca (HMA) and animal measurements (herbage intake, liveweight, testicle size, penis release from preputial attachments, plasma testosterone) were monitored monthly. Puberty, judged by the penis release from the preputial attachments, was achieved by 7 …

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Livestock producers participated in a demonstration project to extend the grazing season and evaluate dormant forage quality and yield. Differences were not detected in yields among forage species but yield differences existed among sites. Yield estimates did not change over time across all forage species but some sites were only able to participate for two months. Producers utilizing fescue beyond November had reductions in herbage mass. Crude protein, available crude protein, acid detergent fiber, and neutral detergent fiber content differed among forage species and sites. Energy and lignin content were similar for all forage species and sites. Sodium and copper …

Relationship Satisfaction In Consensually Non-Monogamous And Monogamous Relationships: A Self-Determination Theory Approach, Michael B. Moskowitz
ETD Collection
Consensual non-monogamy (CNM) represents a relationship structure that incorporates additional partners into the dynamics of a dyadic primary relationship. CNM commands a nontrivial proportion of the population and is categorized into three forms: polyamory, swinging, and open relationships. Foundational research has uncovered that CNM relationships are rather common, diverse, and relationally healthy, despite the CNM population facing significant societal stigmas. This study was designed to complement research supporting the relational quality of CNM relationships by utilizing a self-determination theory framework. Participants in CNM (n = 124) and monogamous relationships (n = 164) were tested and quantitative analysis revealed that relationship …

"Being discharged from a hospital may be a joyous occasion for a patient with a long length of stay, but this process may also be riddled with medication issues. With a deluge of new medications, unclear instructions, and new costs that may be unaffordable, many patients face challenges that are all too common. Additionally, the medication list may be fraught with discrepancies of missing or inaccurate home medications, duplicate therapies of new medications prescribed, or drug-drug interactions of old and new medications.
Pharmacists and pharmacy personnel who support patients during transitions of care (TOC) are very familiar with the consequences …
